An interesting phase of this will be special teams. Two of the best kickers in the state in this game. If it comes down to field position, that'll be huge for both teams.

This game used to be a classic to watch, year in and year out I have went to this game. For the past few years it has been JC easily. I don't see that changing Friday. Belfry needs to make some adjustments if they want to be in Bowling Green. They are a great team. But JC is too much and too physical. I'm going with the Eagles in this one 42-28

Did you look at the game results from 71-08. I don't know how you would call these games classic. JC was shutout 8 times and never scored more than two tds during that stretch.

There was a stretch of about 7 or 8 years that the 2 never even played. From about 99 to 07. & since 08 belfry has only beaten them once. I'm a pirate fan, always have loved watching them play. But I think JC is too much for them this year, just like they have been the last couple of years.

This game has the making of a heavyweight fight with body blow after body blow. After last week we know that Matney isn't afraid to "roll the dice" which could make for interesting game management. Belfry has a 17 game home winning streak dating back Nov 1, 2013 when the lost to JC 54-28! Last year Belfry had key injuries but none the less a 35-0 beat down by JC. Good game to go see, should be one of the two best games to see in EKY this Friday night, the other Paintsville vs SV!

If Belfry plays their A game I suspect a good game with JC winning by a TD. If the same Belfry team that played Midland and Lawrence Co shows up I expect the game to be a lot more like last seasons affair. The two best kickers (imo) in the mountains will be in action tonight so special teams and field position could make this a very fun game.

This game has the making of a really good game...Belfry has to eliminate the turnovers to have a shot. Belfry also has to sustain some drives and show some offensive consistency if they want to win this one and be around to bring home another state championship. At times this year there offense has shown some big play potential, but for this offense to truly work it has to grind out first downs and some clock chewing drives. I think both teams match up pretty well, with JC being the little more physical team. After watching the JC and Ashland game, I was much more impressed with there defense than there offense. JC defense is very aggressive and plays really disciplined ball, its hard to catch them over pursuing, everyone does there jobs and makes good reads. The two teams offenses are almost mirror images of eachother, Belly reads and the vere is comoing all night long until you can stop it. Belfrys two all state defensive lineman must force double teams and the linebackers have to be aggressive getting to hole and wrapping up. This should be a good game, but could go either way. Really good or really ugly!

I do look for JC and Belfry to rest any players who are banged up.

Haywood is going for #5 this year.
Matney knows he has a special team and can finally get that state football title he's chased for so long..... and for real, JC has a shot to win the 4A state football title and the state wrestling team championship as well.

Heck, why not play the JV/Frosh in this game, give them some great experience and rest the starters for the playoffs.

If that's the case then this series does not need to be renewed until it can be played earlier in the season. Whats the point of two of the best teams in the mountains playing each other just to rest their starters.

I think after the last few weeks Belfry will play this game at full strength and play to win.

I agree Pulp Fiction the JV/FRESH on both sides has gotten plenty of experience year and probably could play them in round 1 of the playoffs but your starters need some reps. Belfry especially they had two games in a row where turnovers killed them and even cost them a loss. The last two much better but the starters didn't play much need to get the chemistry back and peak at the right time!

If JC wins this the 4A state football title & wins the team state wrestling title, they will be only the 3rd team in KHSAA history (first public school) to win both in the same school year.
