It looked like one of the unsportsmanlike calls on SV was for the coach putting his hands on a referee after a play.

congrats Pburg

I tried to listen to this game but it was impossible to tell what was going on. The announcers on Q95 are awful. They just talk to each other like two fans sitting in the stands. They never tell the listener where the ball is or where the play ends. Most of the time they are silent while the play is going on. I had no choice but to turn the game off!

i would have to disagree. The referees blew it for Valley. The refs were always calling the penaltys on Valley. Valley just didnt want to play i guess. Tyler Johnson was a little sloppy on QB. Cody Varney played some QB. But he didn't do much at all. Valley could hardly run or pass. Every pass I seen go long was knocked down. Valley just didn't want to win.

Whoa, hold on just a minute. The OFFENSE didn't seem like they wanted to win. The defense did a good job. I know that sounds weird, since the score was 14-0, but if our defense hadn't worked hard all night, the score could've been 40-0. And, seriously, our offense wasn't on the field a full 10 minutes.
And, the refs were definitely helping the Blackcats. No one could deny that.....and the fact that the water on the field smelled like creek water, not rain water.....
BUT, Prestonsburg won and should be congratulated. They've got some tremendous athletes to be proud of.
I believe Valley can beat Prestonsburg in the playoffs. What fun it will be....

Congrats to P-burg on what sounds to be a hard fought win. Was told that the field was really muddy last night too. So it must have been exciting. Good job to Valley for hanging in there with one of the best teams in the area. Good luck to both the rest of the way.

Haha what? The refs were trying as hard as they could for SVHS to win...we haven't got that many holding calls all year probably, and last night there was at least over 10.

I knew it wouldn't be a blow out, so if Pburgs JV can whoop Valley's Varsity, then they must be monsters... But all in all...Congrats to Pburg on the win, Can't wait to see a rematch in playoffs!!

by rule that coach should been ejected.... it must have been for something else.
Would someone get the facts right, were the refs cheating for you or for them? Really, do you think they care who wins?
Who were the refs? 15th or from another region

They had 0 points and you are happy because they didn't get blown out. Valley played ok I guess, but Prestonsburg just played terrible. When you stack 10 in the box, the obvious thing is to pass the ball. Oh well, Prestonsburg still won, and Valley still lost, no surprise. Good luck the rest of the way for SV and Pburg.
Wheres the blowout?
If P-burg's second team could beat Valley they must eb pretty darn good.

Very sloppy game from both teams, and the refs were trigger happy with the flags. Prestonsburg's offense was real sluggish, and Craynon started dancing instead of hitting the whole alot harder, which lead to alot of tackles in the backfield. Valley's defense really surprised me with there speed and how tough they where. Burchett done a real nice job at quarterback, I think we do need to spread the ball out with him and not just throw it to one receiver. Prestonsburg defense done a real nice job, my guess is that Valley didn't have over 150 total offensive yards tonight, but you could really tell how much Bobby Hughes was missed tonight on the field. Coach Derossett is gonna have to spread the ball out for us to do much of anything on the offensive side of the ball in the playoffs. Congrats Blackcats, look forward to seeing you Wildcats down the road.

I disagree with your logic. Prestonsburg is ranked what, number 6 in the state in 2A? Valley is not ranked and was not expected by anyone outside of the Valley faithful to keep that game close. So, while I don't think the score is means for celebration, I do think most people on the losing side of things try to find something positive to take away from the experience, and that's exactly what we're talking about here.

I mean this is the closest Valley has been to beating Pburg in quite some time. I have to admit that SV is better than they have been in years past, but still have a ways to go to before they beat a top tier team like Pburg. But they are definitely heading in the right direction.

Holding or not, Shelby Valley didn't score, meaning it would have been impossible for them to win.

Seriously. If the P-burg field is legitimately in that bad shape, I feel sorry for their players. I know it rained and all, but not that much! Surprising they've not had more injuries if they have to play in that mess at home very often.

Guys it rained for nearly three days straight going into this game. And the players practiced in it all week, and where they practiced the most is wear you could see the mud puddle's. But its idiotic to say that people went out of there way to put water onto a field to beat a team that we are highly favored over, its just plain stupid! The game is over so you need to let this one go and worry about your next opponent and I'm sure you guys are gonna get another shot at my Blackcats.

I am confused about the muddy field. I mean, it did rain and all that for a few days before the game, that could have been the problem. If it was creek water, did they only spray it where Shelby Valley would be playing or was P-burg playing in the same mud? Could it be that Shelby Valley got turf installed this year and they forgot how to play on a field that has mud and grass on it? As long as it has been that it rained before that game, I am sure that P-burg didnt have that much time on a muddy field, just a couple days before the game itself. By the way, where is the creek in relationship to the football field? Did they have to truck the creek water in? If so, did anyone see them doing it?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

haha we did not wet our field down..it would hurt us as much as it would have hurt you because we havent played on any wet grass the whole year..and are you a water scent expert or something lol? i thought it all smelled the same..but if i had to take a guess why the water SMELLED different it was probally because the field was muddy and creeks are too so i guess if you mix that you get creekwater?

Here's my unbiased opinions after watching the tape delay tonight:
1. Pburg wetting the field?!?!?! SV fans need to get away from their turf stadium a little bit, rain makes mud and SV doesn't ahve enough team speed to even consider this as any far fetched option. If it smelled like creek water, it mgiht be because Pburg's field is located next to a river bank, that's old river mud under the grass.
2. Both teams were highly unimpressive, execution was horrible, numerous costly penalties in key times by BOTH teams.
3. Game seemed to be officiated consistantly to me..both teams were flagged. The only key questionable call I noticed, which did have a huge effect on the game, was the fumble in Pburg territory that set up their second TD. It APPEARED (remember I saw this on TV from a bad angle) that a Blackcat defender jumped offsides and was not flagged, but he evry well could ahve timed the snap count and the angle of the camera couldn't show it.
4. SV gave up on their run too early, when they ahd the football around the Pburg 35 in the first half following a pass interference, they attempted three consecutive deep passes that feel incomplete.
5. When SV did utilize their run they relied much to heavily on the outside, considering the sloppy conditions and Pburg's team speed this was a poor decision.
6. Craynon ran very hard, SV needs to do soem tacklign drills because missed tackles killed their chances.

LOL The problem with reading posts and not hearing a person speak is you can't hear the tone. True, the first water comments I made were me being a smart-alec and provoking a fight. The last ones were an attempt to laugh it off and move on. A few days after I've had time to calm down, I apologize for implying that Prestonsburg was capable of playing dirty(haha, get it?). okay, no, not really. Actually, they do play very well, dirty. But, I will take back the accusation that P'burg wet the field. In hindsight, that comment was just illogical.
I really like EKUAlum05's comments - well-argued and sensible. Thanks.
Guess nothing else can really be said on this thread. Good luck to both teams.

Shelby Valley fans need to quit all the whining. The Dorton area has always had a reputation of blaming losses on everything from the refs to the bad water their boys were drinking. Saunders is doing a heck of a good job. What I'm saying is quit making your area look bad and accept the fact that you just got beat.
