Behavior of certain schools' fans

Stardust, it's ok...I'm a hillbilly and wasn't in anyway offended by what you said.

Actually, I'm not a hillbilly, but I do live in a place where there are lots of hills. However, a lot of hillbillies got upset by your post.

I think some people get on here just to cry.

For as of Bell County, I can only speak about my only experience at Log Mountain last year. The Fans that I talked too had nothing but class. Help me get parked, and tips on how to leave with all the construction last year. After losing the game it was very easy for the Bell fans to talk trash while we was walking off the field, but that was not the case. Again, nothing but class! Thanking us for coming and giving us congrats on our season. I can't say anything bad against the Bell fans I met last year.

No its not but you guys started the stereotyping, I was just giving you a dose of your own medicine. I have many friends who are Buckeyes and a few ex-girlfriends(LOL).

OrangenowBlue Wrote:I will disagree concerning the Perry Central fans. As a veteran of sports in the 14th region, they get out of hand, especially at their home field. Wait until you play them in Hazard next year, you will see what everyone is talking about. At home, they turn into rabid animals and school officials doesn't seem to care as Superintendant Amis lets them run wild.
....I do not know about the football program, but Letcher Central has some "loud" fans in Basketball.

Brother, if you think there are no hillbillies in Ohio then you haven't been to my hometown of Greenfield. My wife is from Breathitt County and also lived in Letcher County for a while. Most of her family still lives there. She was shocked when I first took her to Greenfield. Visit south central and eastern Ohio sometime and you'll realize that driving through Cincinnati doesn't give you much of a feel for what Ohio really is like. One more thing; most people in Ohio are the descendants of migrants from Kentucky. My people came from Magoffin County around 1900 to work. The only thing that separates Ohio and Kentucky is a river.

So there you go, Hillbilly!!

You're a hillbilly and someone said that bad behavior = hillbilly behavior. I like Stardust's posts as much as anyone's on here. Just pointed out he used a slur. Rush Limbaugh is not allowed in the NFL for much less than this and Larry Johnson is in the awfulest mess ever because of a slur.

You won't ever see me crying on here but I object to people from other parts of the state or anywhere else using hillbilly slurs.

This is probably going to start a debate. But i've been to Painstville when it has been a pretty tough environment to play in. Back around 1999 it was awful. Fans yelling at our fans, flaming plastic footballs coming into our section from below. And when I went my senior year(2003) it was a little bit better. We were called names and our bus was paintballed by blue and white but that was it. Things have probably changed with the decline of the program. And I haven't been back since 03. And of course like others have stated I'm not saying all are like this. I know a couple people from painstville and they are good people. Just a few bad apples ruining the bunch.

If you want to talk basketball I hear there is nothing like going to Elliot county.

never heard anything bad at any of bells games all great fans that have been there this year....

I've got bad news for you. The only way anyone is going to say anything about hillbilly "slurs" is if the hillbilly in question is black and/or gay. If he's just a regular old white hillbilly, he ain't gonna git no love!

I have been involved with sports at all levels for the last 40 years, and yes i will agree their are some fans at belfry that get a little carried away in the game but wedo not have the market cornered on overly exited fans here on pond creek.I have been all across this state and i find a few everywhere i go. I dont judge a school or community on a few who do not seem to know how to act

Thank you Rebel. You guys showed nothing but class that night as well. I think players, coaches, and FANS felt lucky to see two great programs perform against each other. It was a great game and a wonderful time to be a high school football fan.

I do agree with you on that one.

I think displaying or waving a Confederate battle flag in the parking lot in front of a lot of visiting African American fans is a real neat trick. Just gives you the warm fuzzies. Not naming the school.

Stardust Wrote:Boy, GRC fans are horrendous. Those adults that sit behind the opposing teams bench are pathetic. To think that baiting and cursing a High School athlete is a way to support your team is an absolute hillbilly way to think. Those people are absolute idiots.I'm sure there are good GRC fans, so I don't mean to paint a picture that they all are bad, just the ones who sit on their tailgate, all drinking from a styrofoam cup and yelling obsceneties to players and the female managers that are all high school students.. That's pathetic!

Exactally where where they sitting, there is no bleachers behind the bench of the visiting team?????

The worst experience we had last year was at Dixie Heights. A parent kept saying and cusing at Zollo all night. It was really bad. He didn't let it end there, he even followed him to the locker room. Security had to be called.

CatDawg Wrote:As long as you have fans on this earth you will have jerks just as you will have true supporters of not only their school but their sport. Every school has good and every school has bad just like every family has a black sheep or someone that you just shake your head about and move on.

Also agree 100%

OrangenowBlue Wrote:I am ashamed. Stardust of all people. For a person who likes to take the moral high road, you stereotype poor fan behavior as being Hillbilly. If fans behave badly in Northern Kentucky is it called "Buckeye behavior" due to the obnoxiousness and elitist attitudes of a great number of people who live in Ohio or near Ohio. No. There are good people everywhere so lets not use the social stereotypes.

I will, don't know if it's the same school or not, but I saw Allen Central do that in 96 I got so ticked that I had to leave.

Before anyone comments, I know that is their school flag, however waving in the face of African Americans is wrong.

i heard buckeyes were hillbillys who were to dumb to find there way to detroit and wound up in ohio. .p.s. we hate when bell county comes to our stadium because the farm tractors really mess up our parking lot...lol.!:lmao:

Ashamed! Lol - what a joke. I, take the moral high road, that's never happened. As for the fans who behave poorly in NKY, they are hillbilly's too! A hillbilly is an uncouth backwoods acting individual whom has no sense of manners or respect of themselves or others, WHEREVER they live!

So "Hillbilly Days" in Pikeville is a celebration each year to honor uncouth backwoods acting individuals who have no sense of manners or respect of themselves or others?:dontthink

Sorry Stardust, and again I usually really like your posts, but you are showing your ignorance here.

I think you all are being a little bit hard on him. I think the term he is searching for is maybe what we would call "Redneck". Redneck could go with his definition or redneck could be just be a good ol' country boy. We Appalachian American's can be sensitive in this day and age of political correctness sometimes Star Dust.Wink

The appropriate definitions:

Hillbilly - A rustic or unsophisticated person originating or residing in deprived backwoods area, usually in or from the mountains of the southern U.S. (There is no mention of bad behavior associated with the term Hillbilly)

Redneck - A poor, white, rural laborer of southern U.S.
