Yep that looks good on paper, but in reality styles make fights. Well in this case games. The past is the past and anything can happen on any given Friday. If JC plays ball control offense then this will be a great game. Its hard to score if you don't have the ball. I agree the defense is going to have to play a great game and limit are turn overs on offense, to win this one.

IMVHO...Ball control is highly over rated. I would venture a guess that in 10 of 12 games (if not 12 of 12) Highlands opponents time of possession was a good deal more than the Birds. Highlands tends to score quickly and rely on a smothering defense. Last night, with 11:49 left in the first quarter, Dixie was down 7 - 0. If you are controlling the ball, you are not scoring.

Highlands offense is a lot like the Cincinnati Bearcats. They put up quick scores so it doesn't really matter if JC tries to make it a ball control, grind it out type game.
With that said, I also think Highlands defense is good enough to keep JC from making it that type of game. I said it last year and I'll say it again...JC will have to pass the ball if they want to beat a team like Highlands. Highlands is too good against the run for a team to rely on that.
The biggest key to the game that's been somewhat overlooked? This game is in Ft. Thomas and not down in the mountains. Highlands is EXTREMELY good at home. The Birds have won 22 straight at home, with their last home loss coming to Covcath (29-27) on October 27, 2006. Over the last 10 years, Highlands is 70-8 at home, with their losses coming to the following teams:
Oct. 27, 2006 Covcath 29-27 (3A state champs)
Sept. 1, 2006 Cincinnati Elder 21-18 (Elder also beat 3A state champ Covcath)
Nov. 18, 2005 Lexcath 17-0 (3A state champs)
Sep. 23, 2005 Columbus St. Francis Desales 48-22 (Ohio D3 state runner up)
Sep. 26, 2003 Danville 26-25 (1A state champs)
Aug. 23, 2002 Henry Clay 18-13 (HC finished season 10-3)
Nov. 9, 2001 Covcath 18-15 (CC lost in state semi's)
Aug. 25, 2001 Male 30-0 (4A state runner up led by Mike Bush- current Oakland Raider RB)

Could the Bluebirds be flat from overconfidence? Absolutely not. They've got alot on the line the next two games. They will leave everything on the field this coming friday night. JC may be strong willed and may even slow the game down a bit, but expect these Birds to take it right to them every chance they get. Sounds like the JC is calling the Birds out. Defense overrated? ouch. Hope some of the boys in blue are reading this forum and storing up ammo. JC may play their hearts out, but so will the Birds.....

Yup.
The JC fans are in for a real treat when they come to Ft. Thomas.
You have to love the "friendly" confines of David Cecil Memorial Stadium.
It's very intimidating for opposing teams with the stands literally 10 yards from the field on the visiting sideline.

Highlands by 48 Belfry99
Highlands by 42 kywldcat01
Highlands by 36 RoShamBo
Highlands by 42 the watcher
Highlands by 55 gyrche11
Some on this thread like to list stats between Johnson Central and Covington Catholic and Scott.
Highlands has scored 468 (39.0 per game) and given up 126 (10.5 per game). That means Highlands wins by an average of 28.5 per game.
Highlands has played 10 teams from Kentucky and 2 teams from Ohio (I do not have records for the Ohio teams). The Kentucky opponents records are as follows:
5-7
8-4
8-4
4-7
5-7
6-6
2-9
8-4
3-8
5-7
These combined records for Highlands Kentucky opponents are 54-63.
What do these stats mean? About as much as comparing Johnson Central vs. Scott to Highlands vs. Scott and Johnson Central vs. Covington Catholic to Highlands vs. Covington Catholic.
I think I will hold off on a prediction and wait till Friday night and let the mighty Northern Kentucky Highlands Bluebirds and the poor old Eastern Kentucky Johnson Central Eagles decide who advances with a chance for a state championship.
Highlands is a very good team and can win a state championship. However, I also believe that if Johnson Central plays as they are capable, they can suprise a lot of people.

The victimization thing is getting a little old. You either believe in your team or you don't. I can tell you with assuredness that Highlands is going to win the game Friday night and advance.
There are no "ifs", "they are capable", "they can surprise a lot of people". I don't have to hold off on a prediction.
I do pray that your team has a safe trip to and from Ft. Thomas on Friday.

i hope its a good game friday night.....i was reading someones post on the jc-covcath thread and it talked about highlands playing jc last year will help them this year because their coaches are good at making adjustments.....im not knocking the coaches, but this jc running game is alot different from a year ago...last year they had more power imo, and dillion at qb....this year they have good speed with a quick threat at qb this year in J.k. hall.......imo i think the running game is not the same....good luck jc hope you pull off the upset and bring home a reginal and state championship

You are right, the running game is not the same as last year. Last years was better, and this years HHS defense is better, which spells trouble for JC.

You can label Johnson and Highlands however you wish. One thing is for sure, Dale is going to have these kids mentally ready. They will have the desire of another St. X. game. AC, Bardo, Schlosser, Welz, and others know what's at stake and JC will have to break Austin's legs to stop him from scoring. So, bring you and your mountain team on up and represent your county. Show the Birds your heart cuz I can guarantee you their going to show JC theirs. May the best team win.

Some of you guys from up north are something else, Your team Highlands is rated as the number 1 team (all classes) in the state of Ky. and they are rated number 7 in the nation by Max Preps. Now your on here talking trash about beating JC badly who by the way was rated around 3000 by Max Preps, and rated around 25 to 30 (all classes)in the state of Kentucky at the end of the season. Highlands shouldn't be to concerned about not winning a state title but campaigning for the mythical national championship. I mean really why would you even dress your first string for these games.

Unfortunately, the way the national rankings and mythical champions thing works is by history, SOS,comparative rankings, spreads, etc. Since HHS is #7 and JC is #3000 we're going to have to win by 2993 points to keep the ranking that Dale so desires. Looks like it's the starters for all 4 quarters Friday!! LOL!!
PS avatar is from last year's game. #63 Adam Dempsey escorts # 75 Kody Rosenhagen to the end zone on a 75 yd fumble return that sealed JC's fate. PS: both were SR All-Stater's! We don't replace great players...we reload with them!!
