Letcher Central Soccer Team

cksportsfan Wrote:Somerset's Whitney Wallace made second team East.
Desirae Hamlin of Ashland Blazer was honorable mention East.
Lily Gosser of Bourbon County was honorable mention East.
Danay Fothergill of Pulaski Southwestern was honorable mention East.

There were several girls from Marshall County, Hopkinsville, Daviess County, Ohio County, etc., that made the West team.

LCC barely plays anyone outside its region - which, no offense, is one of the worst ... if not the worst. Collins doesn't play for any great club team (according to google).

Putting up outrageous stats - 8 on Bell County? Seriously - doesn't prove anything.

The mark of a good player isn't the TOTAL, it's what you do against good teams.

How many goals/assists did Collins have against quality teams (and South Laurel wasn't even ranked)? 5?

The ONLY way Collins (and to a lesser extent, LCC) will get any respect/notice is for LCC to play somebody. I'm not saying go out and schedule Sacred Heart, Assumption, St. Henry, Lexington Christian or the Jessamines, but beating up on your region rivals -- especially when you do NOT have to play them -- means nothing. Get a Boyle County, Danville, Ashland Blazer, South Laurel on the schedule in the REGULAR season. Play a good team from NE Tennessee or the western parts of Virginia and West Virginia.

I do agree on many of the things that are stated but in defense of the scheduling, soccer in Letcher County is still in its infant state. I do not think that it was expected that Letcher Central would go undefeated this year and beat teams as bad as they did with a small roster. With that being said, I think it would be in the best interest of the program to upgrade the schedule now and play several teams out in the state or other states. With the loss of only one Senior, they need to increase the competitiveness of their schedule and travel to and play more veteran soccer programs so that they can get the experience and increase their chance of getting more recognition.

Agreed, but at the same time, if you don't do what good teams do, don't expect to get the respect good teams get.

Meaning if you don't have high-quality players and aren't playing a high quality schedule, the top-level teams aren't going to act like you even exist.

Shelby Valley (boys' hoops) got the message. North Laurel in softball. Clay and Rock in girls' hoops. Bell County, Belfry and Corbin football. Wayne County wrestling. All have made a name for themselves for performing on the big stage and for not being afraid to take on the big boys.

And yet, some - not all, but some - have the uninformed audacity to act like LCC is being slapped in the face for not being ranked and Collins not being even honorable mention All-State.

The ONLY shot Collins has of making Miss Soccer is for LCC to pick up and schedule non-district games against at least five top-25 teams and for her to go nuts on them. Then LCC would not only need to win its region (doubtful since it can't even figure out how to beat a mediocre South Laurel team) and probably make it to the elite 8 and score in one/both of those games.

Did LCC and Collins have a good year? For their standards, yes!

But let's not act like they've arrived with all of the big names when their list of accomplishments and big-time wins includes .... what exactly?

The big dogs don't give a hoot about 9-0 regular season wins against Podunk. Daviess County (boys' state runner-up) and Louisvillle Assumption (top 25 and solid postseason showing despite losing regular-season record) prove that much.

:please: Dont forget the politics of the whole thing. If she isnt playing big time club soccer she wont be noticed anyway. not to mention some odp wouldnt hurt her chances. Maybe she does IDK but I'm just saying. I know kids that didnt make honorable mention last season and then had good deals waiting for them to play college and then I knew kids on the all state teams that didnt even have offers. Most of it is all politics in soccer...it really holds the sport back in ky in my honest opinion.TongueirateSho:1::rockon::argue:

I agree. Many of these overexuberant posters lack knowledge in regards to soccer. Some, I am sure, have not seen them play. Now it is time to upgrade the schedule if they want to improve and make an attempt at some recognition. I do agree with basically everything you are saying.

I really don't understand soccer that well, but I love to watch. Have any of LCC players (boys or girls) played in college?

Letcher Central always has a cupcake schedule. IN everything, man. How do you expect to get good when you play weak teams?

what some people would do to have their name in the highlights,...
what has sports come to?
#43
Give them time. I will promise the schedule will be better this year. They really didn't expect the kind of season they had. They certainly didn't expect to make it to the regional championship game. They will be better.

Ashland Blazer won just 50 percent of its games last year. In its last four games outside of its own region, went 0-4 and got outscored 12-1. Has yet to win a state tournament game, getting shut out in both appearances.

Greenup County was 3-14-2 last year and got outscored 80-20. Got beat 4-0 in first round of district by a mediocre Russell team that won 9-of-20 games.

Richmond Model, a small private school, was 3-13-3 last year. Lost five straight and 6-of-7 to end the season.

If that's a tougher schedule ... wow. Just wow.

No South Laurel?
No Tennessee, West Virginia or Virginia border teams?
Yet they go on the road to play two bad teams (Greenup, Model)? Just because it's on the road doesn't make it a quality win.

LCC isn't playing one single team respect worthy. Blazer may be it and like I said earlier, they've done nothing to cement themselves as a player on the state stage.

LCC will score a ton of goals and have a good record. Once the real games begin, they won't hang around long. That type of schedule will not prepare you for any respectable team with a pulse.

If that was the promised better schedule, it's highly disappointing for a program last year begging for respect.

Lol.... Letcher Central only has 6 home games this year , going to be on the road all season . Their closest team is 1 hour away , when you play during school , can't travel 3 hours each way. Sorry it isn't to your liking , maybe they should call you before scheduling teams. BTW , South lost 9 seniors...

DISTRICT HOME AND HOME (CAN'T FAULT, MOST DISTRICTS FORCE YOU TO PLAY DISTRICT RIVALS TWICE)
- Hazard
- Perry County Central

REGION HOME AND HOME
- Belfry (5-12-3 last year)
- Middlesboro (1-13 last year)
- Shelby Valley (4-13-3 last year)
- Whitley County (5-12 last year)

REGION HOME ONLY
- Corbin (12-6-3 last year)

REGION AWAY ONLY
- Bell County (1-11-1 last year)
- Johnson Central (9-11-2 last year)
- North Laurel (8-18 last year)
- Sheldon Clark (6-6-3 last year)

NON REGION AWAY ONLY (ALL ON SATURDAYS)
- Ashland Blazer (12-7-5 last year)
- Greenup County (3-14-2 last year)
- Model (3-13-3 last year)

FWIW, LCC played 10 home games last year and has SEVEN this year (not six). It's not surprising they have that many road games this year after having that many home games last year.
And it looks like LCC is willing to travel on Saturdays (Ashland, Greenup and Richmond aren't right down the street). At the same time, if you're willing to travel, you should be willing to play somebody.

Ok you win:biggrin:

Let me ask you since you are bashing this team. Are you a LCC fan? If you are truly a fan you will support these ladies. They have been going to camp. I know for a fact they have been playing league ball and at least one went to UK soccer camp. They have been working hard all season, and I know there schedule aren't the best, but I think they prepared individually and as a team to get ready for this season. What good would it do to play someone in Lexington, and what good would it do to play South Laurel early. They will be ready, and Ashland Blazer did go to State last year and to me it is a better schedule. GO COUGARS!!!
