I have heard it both ways from Hammonds at LCC. 50% say he is out the door and 50% say no chance he is leaving. Does anybody have the real scoop?? Do people like this guy as a coach.... Can he get it done?? Somebody let me know

^ From what I've heard its all about finding a replacement. The only way Hammonds is out is if they can find a good replacement. Letcher wants to be 100% sure they are going to be able to get a GOOD replacement before they part ways with hammonds

LeeCoUKFan Wrote:And the yearly rumor strikes again!! It never fails that someone mentions that Coach Wright is leaving, resigning, or will not be coaching the next season! It comes up every year and he just finished his 10th season at Lee County. Who are you to talk about Coach Wright leaving being a good thing for the county and the basketball team?! In his time here he has won 3 District titles which is tied with Powell County for the most during this time period. He also has a 24-8 season under his belt as well as a 14th Region All "A" Title! Hopefully, he stays for another 10 years!
firstly, it's not hard to win in the district he is in
nicker:secondly, he gets out coached every game he plays, if they win it's because they just have way more talent and that is not much of the time.
lastly, who all did they beat during that 24-8 stretch? Schedule some competition, then the truth about his coaching or should I say his non coaching will really come out. He is the worst in the region. :moon:

1. Even though I am his son, let me be very clear in stating my Dad is the only person that knows for sure exactly what he would do. I know he loves coaching at Breathitt County. I had dinner with him during the State Tournament and all he talked about was getting ready for next year and how they will get better. He wants to win a 14th Regional Championship at Breathitt County. Circumstances can always change, but I am very confident Coach Fugate will stay a Bobcat.
2. Coach Fugate was suspended from coaching for 5 years by the KHSAA in 1990; the rest of the time away from coaching was his own decision. His behavior on the sidelines and politics in the Perry County school system led to that suspension. Everyone can have their own opinion on how much each part played in ending his coaching career at M.C. Napier, but the fact remains both those reasons played a part.
3. Coach Hatcher got him involved in the PCC program as an Assistant. He has alot of respect for Coach Hatcher and felt he could help the players and team. Cordia offered him a great opportunity to be a Head Coach again, but it involved teaching in a classroom. My Dad had not been a teacher in a very long time, since most of his career was at the Perry County School Board. Breathitt offered him a coaching position that did not involve teaching in a classroom. It was hard for my Dad to leave Cordia, but it was the right thing for him at that point in his professional career. Coaching is his passion and he loves it. When he stops enjoying it he will leave.
I don't know if this helps clear up everything being discussed, but I know at least you will have some facts to base your opinions on moving forward.
Go Bobcats!!!
Your dad is the best man I know!!!! Can't wait to run with him this summer.
Go Bobcats!!!!

Ah yes, sorry that we're not in the almighty 54th District! He does a great job with what talent he has to work with! I guess if coach Wright was up to date with the times, he would go out and recruit players to come into Lee Co but, we don't do that here. As far as who we beat during the 24-8 stretch, you have Bell Co who went 22-8, Johnson Central who went to the Sweet 16, Buckhorn for the 14th Region All A title, Lexington Christian, beat Jackson City twice that year and they made it to the 14th Region championship game. We played a tough schedule that year. Only bad loss was to a very good Bishop Brossart team! Finally, if coach Wright was the worst coach in the Region, he wouldn't be there right now.:ChairHit:

The way things work at LCC is they ARE looking for a replacement behind his back and if a big enough name will take the job then he will be let go.If not he will still be there,If he is fired then a replacement will already be in place this job will not be opened then look for a coach.

Hello, new poster. Apparently I have to have 5 posts before I can create a new thread, but, I am from Orlando Florida. We played Perry Central County in a xmas tournament.
Why is coach Hatcher leaving? Who will replace him? Does this affect that 8th grade kid he has at PG at all?

if hatcher leaves perry, i would want shannon to get the job. hes young and has proven before that he is a good coach. he has said before that he didnt want to be a head coach for awhile...his only exception being at perry central.
03-26-2012, 11:37 PM
If Hatcher Leaves but I dont think he will, I would say either Denny Fugate, John Bentley, Billy Hicks, Shannon Hoskins, Al Holland, yep thats right I was told by a close source if he got the offer he would come back. Steve Wright at southwestern. Thats what I have heard and thats from a close souce. But I believe Hatcher will return next year he is already working on the schedule for 2012-13. season.

Every coach works on a schedule at least a year in advance wether their going to be the coach the following year or not. So that is not an indicator that Hatcher is staying..

this i know very well lol hatchers first year as pcc's coach, which was my freshman year, al left us a terrible schedule because he already knew he would most likely be gone. we played in bryan stations christmas tournament (shelvin mack completely dominated us) and like a week or two later had to go to scott countys toyota classic tournament or whatever and didnt win a game their either i dont think.

I was just over at owsley a couple days ago and heard coach jones did have some issues and that he may good and well not being coming back... If so someone correct me but they have everyone back next year as juniors and one senior... Wish them the best since they haven't kept a steady coach in the program... As for coach wright, I don't see him leaving here, I thought he would have gave it up after losing districts a couple years back with a powerhouse of seniors, so he'll be back coaching again for the lee county bobcats!!

What's going on with the Knott position? Any changes happening?
04-19-2012, 04:49 PM
Why would Knott make a change? They made it to the final 8 and very well could have been playing on Saturday morning. They have a good group coming back.

Will definitely help having less coaches.

Yeah lose Davis. You cant replace him, he is a freakin machine. Someone better break into his supplement cabinet if they want to replace Zack. Zack was a one man wrecking crew. He is stronger than all the Freshmen put together. You cant replace him unless you get a foreign exchange student or someone not from Kentucky. Adams was pretty hard nosed also. Those two boys didnt back down from anyone.
04-23-2012, 03:12 PM
Both boys will be impossible to replace.. they just wanted to WIN SO BAD...and Zach is a leader on as well as off the court.
However, Adam's father does not help coach..nor sit on the bench.. he actually spends most of his time at the door or outside..hah nerves I guess?

Does perry have any good freshmen coming up besides Beverly?
04-23-2012, 11:03 PM
No freshmen at Perry will make an impact next year other than Braxton Beverly. I do here a kid from inner city in Jersey is coming though. 6'3 swingman. Freshman.

Heard today that Coach Jones told his students this week, that he has took a job in Clay County as a teacher. Looks like the Owls will be searching agian.

Al Holland will not be leaving Hazard.

Possible movement- Jeff Honeycutt to Owsley County if there is a teaching position open. (Heard this through a great source).

Dude do you have a man-crush on Honeycutt? You put his name out there for every open job that comes along? :HitWall:

He has a home in Knott, is girls coach (Stipend), and principal at an elementary school (more $$$ than a classroom teacher). I don't think he will pack up his two kids and wife to move, if he can not drive to the school on a daily basis he aint going anywhere.
