You could say he's passionate about how "fans" make comments about their teams coach and what can happen as a result of those negative comments, he's lived that aspect of coaching to many times over the years.(hopefully not in Alexandria:biggrin

Thanks for the kind words. I did enjoy coaching and helping the Mustangs get many first. :thanks:I guess you could say I'm passionate how coaches are treated by their "fans" and you're right I've experienced the bottom of that at two different schools including hostile administrations

Finally some logical sense on here.

And as Tomcat pointed out, their schedule those two years was the worst of the worst, but good for them and Coach Salmons in taking advantage of the situation.

To many times, and it's all across the state, at most every program; but whether or not your team has a successfull year(s) is often because of two things and two things only:
1) Jimmy's and Joe's (yes, I know mommy and daddy, your little Billy and his buddies were the 9 year old champs of their county, but that doesn't mean jack squat when they get to high school and play against outside competition)
2) scheduling (I bet if you go back and look at most teams with winning records, very few of them beat people as good or better than them).

I know those are hard realities for some of you know it all parents and players (former) who weren't as good as you thought you or your son was, but it's the cold hard truth.

I am sorry if I struck a cord or upset someone. I don't go to games or practice and say things like this. I don't call the coach at his home or send him hate mail or anything like that. I was under the impression that this was a place to talk all things sports and to voice your opinion. I don't think this coach comes on BGR. He probably don't even know about it and I think he is a little busy at the moment. I don't know the story with NKY but if he was a coach then he knows as good as anyone on here that people sometimes get a job as coach that don't belong. I promise you that I'm not the only person in Lawrence County who was upset about this. If you took a vote in this town you would find that most feel the way I do. I think the main thing all of you are confused about is I think you think that this coach is new. If he was new to this county I would keep my mouth shut and see what he can do but I have seen his work. He has been at this school for some time and other head coaches did not care much for him. He is also the principle of the middle school and that is why the school wont let go.

It also makes me laugh how every time you go on places like this to chat you get people who hide behind a fake name and we have no idea who they are talk about how great and important they are and all the things they have done and have nothing and no way to back it up. You learn quick what people to avoid in a place like this. I doubt very seriously any active football coaches are on here or good ones anyway. I think they would be just a little busy this time of the year. Some of the people who say they are a coach or a star player are on here 24-7 also at times of the day when they would be a practice and stuff. I also think you have people on here who just roam around and look for people to start a fight with and argue with. I think you have a name for people like that on here. People go on a thread about a team and school they know nothing about and make comments about things they know nothing about and want to argue about things they don't even know the whole story about. I am not a coach or a star player and I am real with myself. I am just a football fan and I can live with that. But anyway when all of you are done coaching championships and winning M.r football you can just come on here and talk about sports and trash talk. That is what this is for you know that don't you.

Now that is something I agree with. Most of the time when a team goes undefeated most of the teams they beat are teams they were supposed to beat. I also think sometimes people put just a little to much stock in strength of schedule. Sometimes when a team has a strong schedule it beats em up by post season time. I also think that a good team is a good team and a bad team is a bad team. Who they play don't make that much of a difference.

Wow man it got quiet fast on here. I think I just figured out how to shut up all the trollers and the wish they were coaches and superstars. All you got to do is list your real name and challenge em to do the same thing and they run for the hills. I even gave my real address just in case they want to come see me or send me some mail or something. There is a reason for this. They don't want anyone to know who they really are. If they make something up or give the name of a coach or star player they know the will get caught and exposed.
Like I said I am just an ordinary person. I am just a football fan. I love this game and I love talking about all things sports. I thought BGR would be a good place to talk sports and voice your opinion on things and trash talk and have fun and not get harassed or ganged up on by the comment police but I guess I was wrong. I have nothing to hide, do you. Anyway I think I will stay away from this thread because it is attracting all the wrong people. My advice to you is don't take life so seriously and don't sweat the small stuff because you will live longer. There are much more important things in life then football and coaching and sports. I agree with a lot of what all of you say,but I hope he is good enough to keep it intact for now. When is someone who knows this game and knows how to run a team who is good year in and year out going to come. I hear a lot of people say it cant happen in Lawrence county because it's a low population town and low budget but how did coach williams do it. A lot of people who are not from Lawrence county don't know that we were the best team in the mountains in the 90's we had more wins in the mid to late 90's than anyone in the mountains and I think we were like 7'th in state in wins during that period and we went to the state semies like three times. I would like to see someone like coach Ratcliff when he is done with his big time coaching or Jason Michaels when he is done with the NFL or what ever he has in mind to come back home. Or Parker and Wright. That would be great!!!:help:

I don't know what kind of a man he is,he may be great. I'm sure he loves the kids but that is not the point of this thread. The question was do you think he is the best coach for the job.
I know winning's not everything but if you put in all that time,blood,sweat and tears why not try to win! He may do great and surprise all of us but the man has a coaching history and its not very good. I don't question the man or his love of the kids but his ability to build a solid program and win.

What rock did you come out from under. Do you think that is all they can pay a coach. You have no idea what you are talking about. Do your homework and take a look at what some high school coaches in eastern kentucky make. Look at what the coaches of teams like Johnson central,Belfry and Bell county make, or Prestonsburg or Harlan county or Knox central or Ashland. I would bet the farm that all those schools pay more than we do. This school makes more on this team then what they pay or the would just stop the football program all together. They make more when the team is good and so when they get a good coach and they make more money they want to pay the same and that is why no good coaches want to come here. dawgbyte02

Ok for one thing, from the very day they said that he got the job I shouted from the roof top that this was a bad idea. Coach Goldsmith who they ran out of town had more football knowledge and know how then this coach. I would take coach Goldsmith right now over this man. For another thing if you are not from this school and town you have no idea what you are talking about. I am from this school and town and I know how they do things. We have had good coaches but the school wont try to keep em here. And how is little ol me voicing my opinion going to bring the program down. If it is that easy then you are right,we do have more problems then just a bad coach. He was not even that great of an assistant, because if he was coach Salmons would want him at CM high school but coach Salmons got the people he wanted. And there is a big difference between the team and program coach Salmons inherited and the one that this new coach inherited. Coach Salmons inherited a mess but he got things on the right track. Yes with a very young team and this schedule any coach would have his work cut out for him but just hide and see how this season goes and then some of the same people on here who are acting like they are on his side, you will see how quick they will turn. I predict that the bulldogs will not win a game this year. If they do it might be Jackson county. Some of you on here have a good coach and program and have nothing to worry about but if you were in my position and your school chose a coach that was an obvious bad choice and just a quick easy hire you would go off also. But things can change in a hurry. This just might be your school next year so think about it.

Like I said,go get a life. You don't know me and I don't want to know you. You don't know anything about this school or this team so stop replying to me or I will report you as a stalker or something.

It's about the players. It takes an entire community including support from administration to built a good football program. But it only takes a few "fans" getting on chat boards to destroy a program and undermine a program for years. There is a time and place for some of this. Have you talked to the head coach and aired your concerns? Is it about type of offense/defense? play calling? use of student athletes? Your precious little baby not getting enough playing time? The summer leading up to the season is not the time to be tearing up a coach and a program. After the season is when these discussions should take place.
