Besides, Iâd rather be a great QB than a âgreat arm,â I know lineman with great arms!
#2 was the greatest QB I've ever watched play a Kentucky high school football game. I hope to watch Pikeville's QB play.

What is the all time series record between Beechwood and Pikeville?

Orange Blaze Wrote:What is the all time series record between Beechwood and Pikeville?
I don't know the full series history, but I know from the 80's on.
1984 semi finals 29-21 Beechwood
1987 Pike County Bowl, Beechwood was leading 21-20 at the half, game was suspended at halftime due to weather
1987 semi finals, Pikeville won big at Beechwood, something like 52-28
1988 semi finals 34-7 Pikeville
1989 semi finals 49-20 Pikeville
1990 Pike County Bowl 27-13 Beechwood
1991 State Finals 34-6 Beechwood
1992 State Semi's 34-0 Beechwood
1993 State Semi's 38-13 Beechwood
1994 State Semi's 23-17 Beechwood
1995 State Semi's 42-16 Beechwood
1996 State Semi's 38-0 Beechwood
1999 State Semi's 25-22 Beechwood
2004 State Semi's 40-7 Beechwood
2015 State Finals 42-28 Pikeville
That looks like 10-4 in favor of Beechwood from 1980 on, not sure about in the 70's, and I didn't count the Pike County Bowl that was suspended at halftime.

84 was a heartbreaker, so was 99. Actual score in 99 was 25-19.
Pikeville beat Beechwood big in 1972, don't remember score but it was by a bunch. That might be the only other meeting.

Good to see what I believe to be the best 2 teams in class A make it to the title game. I give BW the edge but Pike seems good enough to win

Beechwood leads the all-time series 10-5 or 11-5 depending on how you count the 87 Pike County Bowl. Still awaiting word from the KHSAA on how to record that one. Everything I have ever seen treated it as if it didnât happen, but want to be sure.
Pikeville won 24-8 in 1972. Other scores look close. Canât post the sheet from my phone.
I had some other stats, but the winner of the game has won state something like 12 out of the 14 or close to that.

That's right, 25-19 was the score in 99.
Pikeville was up 19-10 in the 4th quarter and Beechwood scored twice in the quarter to win. The game winner was on a back handed flip pass by the QB after looked like he was going to take off and run with the ball.
In 1974 Beechwood went to the finals, but I'm not sure who they played in the semi's.

94 at Pikeville was a heartbreaker as well. Pikeville RB going in for certain score very late in the 4th but has ball punched out near the goal line and Beechwood recovered. Very flukish (lucky) play.
Beechwood had a great team and won the title but Pikeville backfield of Brent Coleman Eddie Deramus and John Hatfield punished the Beechwood defenders in the semis. BW QB was Greg Hergott who has to be kin to current BW QB?

Pulling hard for Pikeville! Very Possible they win this game. Must play very disciplined football. They really didnât have 1-2 guys that were scoring threat everytime they touched the ball.. Qb throws good.. But they do have a bunch of really good and consistent players. Donât make a lot of mistakes. 2 lineman were as good as we have seen in our 14 games this season. Jus cover them and Tackle. Donât turn the ball over!

I remember that game well. That fumble going across the goal line sealed the fate for Pikeville in that game. Those three, Deramus, The late Brent Coleman, and John Hatfield were great players in their own right. I remember talking to Coach Allara before the game, and him telling me "We got our hands full with Greg Hergott". Great QB.

Coleman actually fumbled just inside the 10 yard line. He was a very good running back, never went down easy. Deramus was a load, but out of shape, which is why he was on the sidelines after his long run that set them up around the 10 yard line.

Don't know exactly what yard line he actually fumbled on, but he was going in on the play and the Beechwood player lunged and just happened to knock the ball out. Hatfield was huge in that game also along with the other two backs.
I remember watching Hergott in that game and he literally looked like he could go the distance on every play. Great game bad result lol...I remember listening to the radio guys interviewing the Beechwood coach and he said he had to go conservative with his play calling to keep the ball away from Pikeville because those three backs were pounding his defense.

How long has it been since there hasnât been a complete shoe in for one of the championship games?
As far as this game, man I want Pville to win. I donât have much for BW or some of their fans. The more I think about this game the more I think itâs going to be more on the coaches to come up with a win than the players for the panthers. I know Pville has some good talent and a lot of it. But I do think BW is probably the more talented team overall. If the coaches canât find a way to have the kids in position to make plays, I think they will. But if they try to play BW âstraight upâ I guess would be the terminology, Iâm afraid BWâs speed and athleticism will trump that. Theyâve got to find a way to maintain gap control while keeping the edge and covering their speedy DBs. PVilles LBs might be a key factor in this game as well. If Iâm remembering right, it seems BW likes to throw over the middle a lot with slants etc. so theyâll need to make the right reads and donât let a 10 yd pass turn into a TD. But good luck. Go Pikeville. Or as you guys say. Hail Pikeville, the Hell with BW

^^Pikeville's offense will give Beechwood problems because they can run and throw equally well and it's hard to cover the whole field on them. The play calling was masterful in 2015 when Pikeville had 3 TDs passing and Daric Pugh killed them on the ground. I look for Pikeville to mix it up really well just like that again.
