On a related note. Joe Kinzer of EKB sports definately gets the Jack@#$ of the week for coming over to Pikeville today and basically trashing our school, our players, our coaching staff and our tradition during a radio interview about the Pikeville-Belfry game with Coach Copely. He even went as far as to tell Coach that he had some stupid bet with one his buddies about this game and that he bet against us. Hey Joe just remember pal the guy signing your checks is a Pikeville alumnist. Next time you want to talk trash about Pikeville it might be while youre handing a Pikeville fan their Blizzard at the South Williamson Dairy Queen. Pikeville fans if that dont fire you up I dont know what will!

It could have been said as a way to fire up Pikeville. Even though I dont think they can get fired up enough even if they used a flame thrower.

Before we crucify Joe, let's make sure we get the facts straight. Joe had a bet on the Sports Guys show that if Pikeville stayed within 17 points of Belfry, that he would wear a Pikeville shirt to the next Belfry ballgame and tailgate. He did call Pikeville out on the show Monday night. He challenged them to bring their "A" game to the Belfry game for once. He called for a possible end to the series if Pikeville does not become more competitive on a yearly basis. I do not necessarily agree with what he said, but there is some validity to his points. Next, the account he gave me does not exactly match what you say. He called me after his interview with Copley and said that the coach had wished he had what Joe said Monday night on the show on tape. He wanted to use this as a motivational tool to fire Pikeville up. Joe said that he would just go in the locker room and tell them himself. He said to me(and if any of this is false, it came straight out of the mouth of Joe), that he said to Pikeville, that Belfry is not sitting on Pond Creek and feeling sorry for the Panthers being down a little bit and being banged up, and for once he wishes that Pikeville would show up with their "A" game against the Pirates. He said "187-58", that is the score of how Belfry has beaten Pikeville the last 7 years. So look at it how you want. To me it's a real "fire-em-up" tool for Copley to use, and btw don't ever take Joe too seriously because he likes to stir up the pot sometimes and he is not afraid to do it.

That's what everyone thought about the Lexington Catholic game too wasn't it? And they put up a great fight.
Copley knows that Belfry is the biggest game every year on the schedule and he can't do anything more than coach his heart out and stand on te sidelines coaching it out even more. I think we might be suprised with panthers tomarrow night.
All you need to worry about is on halloween when your team comes to play them. Now that'd be some good stuff!

I believe you are right in the fact that you say Copley will coach his heart out. There is no doubt in my mind he will do that. I just do not beleve that the Panthers have enough guns to stay with Belfry for more than a half, but I do hope that Pikeville comes to play and makes a game of it. BTW, I hope that Copley doesn't trip over Joe Kinzer on the sideline. Of course, he may want to run over him. Ha Ha!!!!

Back in the day... no one wanted Pikeville to bring their A game on game night. Belfry wants them to. Joe said he wishes they would. If that is ripping on a team, school, players, or coaches, then I think someone is mistaken on what ripping on someone is. Why does coaches even need motivational tapes and papers to get teams fired up these days? If Pikeville cant get fired up knowing they are going against Belfry, the two premier teams in Pike County and in some peoples minds, the two premier teams in Eastern Kentucky, then something is wrong somewhere. If Pikeville shows up with them mindset that they had against Lex. Cathlic then it will be a whale of a game. And they should show up with that mindset. Belfry is the biggest rival that Pikeville faces each year. It is a bigger rival than even their district games. On the other hand, if they dont, this game could get ugly early. It just depends on which Pikeville team shows up if it will be a barn burner or a blowout. I am pulling for Pikeville, but I think Belfry has to many guns to go down this year.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

So Ashland would beat Belfry as bad as they beat Pikeville in your opinion?

Excellent post, but Joe must also remember that Pikeville brought their A game the last time Belfry came to Pikeville, and actually outplayed Belfry for 3 1/2 quarters. Hopefully the Panthers will play with that same intensity tomorrow night.

Exactly, they always seem to come close at home.
2006 was Belfry 24-20 and the TD was really late in the 4th. Pikeville took the lead once

I would like to see Pikeville keep it close but i'll say...
Belfry-42
Pikeville-22
Belfry-42

I figured that Piketon would play Belfry a lot tougher.Isn't this a rivalry game?
Ashland laid it on the Red devils pretty good and I figured Russell is a little better than Belfry. Ashland would beat Belfry but not as bad as they did Pikeville.

Well ill tell ya Wooderson,, Everyone knows how we got to State last year, It was'nt so much the backs,,It was the OFFENSIVE LINE!! Whetsone and Blackburn , When you see those two move from the right side of the line to the left!!! That's where its going!!! Even if the other team knew it,, they could not stop it!!! The UNSTOPPABLE FORCE!!!!!! You need a line to open the holes!!!

how is JR Robinson ? he got hurt last game. Pikeville really needs him on defense he is one of the most aggresive linebackers on the team

But the good thing about it is we still got most of those back and the ones we got replacing the others are just as good and has a lot more heart. The only thing going on at Belfry is same thing going on everywere. Kids are so lazy and are quiting. But to be honest Belfry is better off without them and Corey Coleman will be a dominant force on the line.
As a matter of fact one of the big reasons I think Belfry is such a big favorite over Pikeville is because of the line. I can tell you from first hand experience that playing for Philip Haywood is the opportunity of a lifetime and the things he teaches you will last you a lifetime.

That was a really good game. Pikeville outrushed Belfry that night and had a couple of real long runs. Belfry had a big kickoff return by Corey Chapman for a touchdown. Then late in the game, the Pirates drove right down the field and scored the winning TD. It was a real good high school game and it would really be nice to see another one like it this year.

You never know. Stranger things have happened. I really don't think Pikeville "needs" to win this game although for them that would be a big boost. I believe they need to come out and play hard and try to eliminate mistakes and put themselves in a position at the end of the game to make plays and possibly win. I think Belfry needs to come out and be aggressive and play with some spirit that they really haven't played with so far. I think they need to respect Pikeville and look at this game as what it is and has always been: the most traditional regular season game on the schedule. Ivan Lee needs to play big and be more aggressive and the Belfry D needs to show they have made some strides by stopping a good, quality team.

Of those who do know, they aren't even going to watch the game, they are going to "socialize". This is pathetic. Pikeville/Belfry has been on my mind since the beginning of the season. Past years everyone was hyped for the game, plans for what would be done the week of school were completed weeks earlier. Now it is just going like a normal week. Until there is enthusiasm like there once was Pikeville football will not be the same. I hope Coach Copley and staff can get the programs back to the way it was, but it will also require the help of the community to back the program. GO PANTHERS!Chin up youngblood. There are still some people in the city limits that still care about this program. Keep us pumped up tommorow night. If PHS football is on your mind that much then please grab a set of shoulder pads next year and get in the fight! We always got room for a few good men.

Part of the reason the community isn't as excited about the game as they usually are has to do with scheduling. IMO it was very poor planning on someone's part to play this game on Fall Break. Pikeville kids are out of school Thursday, Friday, & Monday. Many families are out of town. Also, the score of the AC game last week isn't going to help pack the stands. It is my understanding that Harmon and some other key older guys aren't playing due to injuries. Not because those guys are injured, but this team looks to be the "softest" Pikeville team I have seen, which may be due to so much youth having to play so early. I think this one will look like a Piarist basketball score, 75-0. Haywood may not be able to help how ugly it gets. I know they play this series for the $ and rivalry factor, but the rivalry is GONE, it's too lopsided now. And as for the $ factor, it will only make $ tonight if the Pond Creek Nation comes out in full force, the Pikeville turnout will be LIGHT, mostly parents I would think.
