2009 Belfry Football Schedule
#61
EKUAlum05 Wrote:Yeah.. it's false and propoganda tha started from just slightly down US 23 Wink

I know this is a Belfry football site and let hope JC and Belfry can work this out. Both schools need each ohter as they are the only two that seem to want to play each other in the area.

As for the KHSAA, a few qucik thoughts, JC had a shot at going 4A and was deinied, Matney got a sanction on an issue that would have been considered busineess as usal anywhere else in the area and the 57th region had Lawrence Co added making the only 5 team distirct in the region and Shelby Valley gets a cakewalk into the region and the region is in Pikeville. Looks like it was started south on 23, way south!

Belfry has a lot of problems scheduling right now. Half of the KY schools in the area either won't play us, or it's not advantageous for us to play them. We're so close to WV that our geographical area is cut in half, because not many WV teams would ever want to play Belfry: it's pretty much a guaranteed loss, and losses don't get you points in WV toward making the playoffs.

And yes, while Belfry may be 3A in KY, they'd be 2A in WV, and Logan has already said that if Belfry were considered 3A in WV that they'd play them every year. Logan has to play half their season games against 3A schools, and in WV most of them are both in the north (and far away), and also in a "league" which for some reason Logan is excluded from.

MonsterMan makes a good point. Transfers from out-of-state seem to pass through KHSAA with ease. It isn't the same on a county-to-county basis.

But...it's always been that way. In other parts of the state, also.

cuppett777 Wrote:so are we adding logan wv, what about jc are they staying on there or we replacing them, hope they stay..

Logan will not be on the '09 BHS schedule, 2 games were confirmed today-P'burg on Aug 21st(week o) and Ashland(week 2, the week after the PCB).

I was told that the WVSSAC did not grant Logan a waiver about there schedule. Logan must play 5 3. A teams to be eligilble for consideration of the playoffs. They have only four. I know for a fact that if Logan was granted the waiver they were going to play Belfry. To be honest Belfry more than likely would have won anyway. I think that this rule is stupid. According to WV , Belfry, Pike Central, Sheldon Clark are considered 2A because they only count students in grades 9 through 11.

I know Pike Central is also short on games.
#66
Logan wouldn't be a good JV game for Belfry....sorry joethegreek
#67
Well at least they will have some better games than last year.
#68
It's now been confirmed Pburg /Belfry!
#69
Why can't you guys schedule Bluefield WV? They would be an excellent team for you all to play. They are about a 2 hour trip from Belfry. Bluefield does not care to travel, they traveled to Charlotte NC this year to play this year. They have been to 14 state title games as a AAA & AA school winning 9 times.
#70
I think Bluefield will be a great game for Belfry too play.
#71
I think that south charelston, or bluefield would be great 4 belfry competition wise.
#72
I think they need to play ironton oh, They would useually lose every year they played them but it was usually a great game to watch anybody agree? Its actually kind of a rivalry in a way.

He was the chairman of the BOC. He was a former employee of Belfry who was in Prestonsburg's district at the time. He should recuse himself because of that thin line? The BOC deals with many issues involving many schools (not just eligibility issues). If a BOC member had to recuse himself every time an issue came up involving a school with a thread of connection to their home school, then there would be a lot of folks sitting out.

Besides that, there were 14 other BOC members voting and if you throw out his vote, the vote was still 14-0 in the Yates case, right?

oneijoe Wrote:You keep referring to Coach Derossett as "John"...do you know him personally ?

Sure, he coached here for several years, a lot of people at Belfry know John. What does that have to do with the discussion?
#74
I guess we're way off topic anyway.

Getting back to the issue of Belfry's 09 schedule, if they are indeed playing Prestonsburg, and assuming the Logan deal is still on (unsure), then their schedule will look something like this...

8/21 Prestonsburg
8/28 Pike Co Bowl (Boyd Co or Cov Holy Cross)
9/4 Ashland
9/11 Letcher Co Central
9/18 Logan WV
9/25 OPEN
10/2 Pikeville
10/9 East Ridge
10/16 Pike Central
10/23 Sheldon Clark
10/30 Johnson Central

Some of this is guess work. The district games are supposed to be played in weeks 7-8-9, but I have no idea what the order will be.

I put the non district games in there where I thought they may play out, but they could be in any order also.

I heard the other day that Pikeville will play Covington Holy Cross and Belfry will have Boyd Co. in next years PCB.

Meant nothing by it, it just seemed odd.

I know Coach Haywood, but I'd never refer to him by his first name in a public forum. Must be an age thing - either Coach Haywood's or mine. Smile

I thought the Logan game wasnt going to happen.

The East Ridge game is in week 9 or 10 I believe.

Man Belfry really is gonna have to start playing some competition. These teams we play every year that we know we will beat is just rediculous. I mean I'm a Pirate through and through, but all these games bore me.

The only game I'll go to is probably the Ashland, P-burg, and Logan game.
the rest is a no-brainer.

If everyone thinks Belfry is so amazing, let them get out there and do it.
#80
Ashland
Prestonsburg
Johnson Central
Letcher Central

These are four solid non-district opponents. I agree with what your saying, and have been vocal about it for some time now. But, you have to agree that the above teams are a VAST improvement over last year. All of this Logan talk does seem to suggest that the administration is dead set on getting another local game.

I would bite the bullet and have ONE game a year where I travel, even a long distance, to play a top notch opponent.

JC will be one of the top teams in the state and a top 5A team. Do not discount the importance of this game. Should draw a big crowd at the CAM! I think it would be the toughest game Belfry willl play and prepare them for the playoffs.

I would love to see Belfry play Bluefield. South Charleston no chance they play in a conference. Bluefield one year had to play there rival Graham twice to fill a schedule. If Belfry is still short on games and if Johnson Central is too play home and home.

Has anybody heard which team will be in the Logan slot for next year?

Amped 88 Wrote:So does anybody know who all that Belfry does have scheduled next year? I am sure that the Pike Co Bowl is set isn't it?
yea they play P'burg the 1st game and then they play Boyd County the second game in the Pike County Bowl. I dont know why they play the Pike Co Bowl second game this yr but its already been made.
#86
Me too, me too. Which I enjoy watching bell co anytime i can and Im a pike county boy.
#87
Are the letcher and ashland games both home or away?
#88
Being I only get to see Belfry once live and that's if I make the five hour drive to the Pike County Bowl. I skipped it 2008 and will do so in 2009 because the match ups were not worth the drive.

I would love to see Belfry play one of the following teams in the Pike County Bowl.

1-Beechwood
2-Jeffersontown
3-Lexington Catholic

I would be there for sure.
#89
Belfry vs beechwood at the cam would be awsome!!!!
#90
i heard there may be a team from about 3 to 3.5 hrs from here playing belfry this next year but dont know how it is.
