Who? Cotton Nash has no ties to Breathitt, now does Goldie Sawyers. Andrew was a good player at Breathitt, but top five all time? Don't think so.
My top five at Breathitt would have to include Big Earl Stevens, Cecil Clair, Arch Johnson, Doug Noble, and one of the Morris twins.

I'm not from Breathitt, but have followed them over the years. My top 5 Bobcat players of all time would be:
1 Earl Stevens- Not sure if he played college ball or not but he was a big dude for Breathitt's great teams in the early 1960's.
2 Arch Johnson- 6'6, Morehead State
3 Larry Noble- 6'4, Austin Peay
4 Cecil Clair- 6'6, Morehead State
5 Charlie Turner- 6'5, Berea College

babydangy Wrote:Wah Wah may have had the better collegiate career, but I think if you put them up against each other Charles would have won, heck he scored 15 against UK in 96' which could very well be one of if not the greatest college team ever.
I would respectfully disagree with this statement. Before W. Jones was an Olympic Gold Medalist, an All American while winning two national championships at UK, and a first round (#8 overall) draft pick in the NBA, he was a star for Harlan High School. W. Jones led HHS to 4 Sweet 16's, including 3 final 4's, 2 appearances in the championship game, and one Sweet 16 championship. Jones was the Sweet 16 MVP in 44. At that time Jones held the NATIONAL high school all time scoring record.
Minnesota never played UK's 95-96 team that you referred to. However, Minnesota did play the 97 UK team in the final four. C. Thomas actually scored 5 points (not 15) in 14 minutes of playing time. I was a Charles Thomas fan but I can never remember Thomas being a starter at Minnesota. He was usually the 7th man.
I agree with one of your statements. If Thomas and Jones played one-on-one, Thomas could possibly beat Jones, but only because Jones is over 85 years old now.
BTW. Jones was also a star for the UK football team, earning all SEC honors as well as playing first base for the UK baseball team. He was also a 6 handicap golfer.
Both were great high school players but Jones accomplishments during and after high school far exceed Thomas's.

The bolded is one of the funniest replies ever. Good one Rojas!

I agree....Jones was one of the greatest athletes (probably the greatest all-around athelete) to ever play for UK. He could do it all.

I don't feel comfortable going any further than that honestly. As most of my picks would be based on team succes not pure talent.
I think it would be safe to add Joey Couch, Keith Adkins and Jerry Pelphrey to the list. Joey Couch was All-state and made the Sweet-16, All-tournment team. Keith Adkins went D1 and led the State in scoring, Jerry Pelphrey was went D1 also and played in 3 NCAA Tournments. Even though JR's team won the state, there has not been a more complete team in the 15th Region since the John Pelphrey, Joey Couch , Keith Adkins team. That team ran into Allen Houston who would Play 12 years in the NBA. They also beat the State Champs Clay CO. pretty bad in the regular season.

I'll take a stab at Pikeville's. Now, I don't like assigning a number, because best five is so subjective. But the OVERALL best 5, in my opinion, were:
A) Mark Myers
B). Doug Powers
C). Chris Slater
D). John Venters
E). Howard Lockhart
Now, I know that I'm leaving people out, but that is why I hate doing these things. So different based on what you personally think makes someone among "the best". I tried to focus on those who contributed or demonstrated outstanding all around skills, not just one specialty or other.

You could easily make a top 10. I would also add Braxton Beverly and Justin Johnson to the list but at the bottom of it.
