Tomcat Pride Wrote:I really don't see this game being close with it being at Ashland. Johnson Central is a one man show on offense unlike the previous seasons. It's simple you stop their quarterback and you stop their offense. Their backs are slow and soft. They avoid contact at all costs and unlike the previous seasons their offensive line isn't very good. On the defensive side of the ball they give up a lot of big plays through the air and their run defense has been very shaky. With that being said I just don't see how they will be able to stop Baker and the Ashland offense. Friday can't get here fast enough. This has been building all season and after Friday night the entire state will know who's the best team in 4A.
Ashland 35
Johnson Central 14
Yep, that's exactly what Lexington Catholic said, there stud!!

You and he rest of the clowns have called down the thunder and know you've got it. Friday's almost here and the entire state will know soon that Ashland is back in the drivers seat and we're going to stay there.:biglmao:I am approaching old manhood and I don't recall the days when Ashland was "in the drivers seat." Ashland will be facing the same defense that limited Baker to 29 yards one year ago, and they will be facing it with a nearly non-existent passing attack. Friday is almost here and I am really looking forward to this game. I won't be shocked if JC loses by three on a bogus "wide right" call, but I think that a third straight 42-7 Johnson Central win is a more likely outcome.

To bad they moved up to 5A you could have made a trip down the AA to see the birds get eaten alive by the Tomcats.

Some things never change JC pounding their chests over being district champs a few years and not one other thing to show for all the recruiting I mean hard work you have put into being King of playoff choke jobs. We have banners hanging for championships our school won over the years, take some pictures of ours because JC won't ever get one of their own.

If not the Tomcats could easily slip to third of fourth in the district, IMO. This will be the Tomcats best shot at a district title in the foreseeable future, and it is a slim shot at best.

Heck fire Hoot,
Didn't you know that NotsoBADCATS's illegitimate son gathered around one of those leather helmets in the hallowed ground where the trophy case sits and prayed, chanted, and burned incense for just about half the mornin' psyching himself up to get back here on the boasting board?
It's been almost a year now since he worked up enough fortitude to come back on here with one of his annual drug induced rants.

I guess that is what constitutes being in the driver's seat to fans living vicariously through ghosts of the past.

Do you find it as ironic as I do when Ashland fans label JC "choke artists" when JC dashes the Tomcats' playoff hopes almost every year? Ashland got the privilege of losing to Highlands last season, not because they won a big game, but because they were blown out again by JC with the district title on the line.
I guess losing 42-7 in back to back seasons with the top seed on the line does not constitute "choking," but nonetheless, it must be embarrassing to these folks who keep ignoring reality as they declare that happy days are here again.

I am finished here. Let me clarify that I am not predicting a running clock on Friday. It should be an good game and Baker will probably rise to the challenge to make things interesting.
I don't think that Ashland can beat JC twice this season and I don't believe that they would beat JC in Paintsville in a rematch, but that is why they play the game. I am looking forward to seeing some of the top players in the state play next week for what will be a key game on the road to a state title. I just hope that it is a clean, hard fought game that does not involve a large number of penalties or any injuries.

I hope baker has more than 5 or 6 runs this year than get a phantom injury not play the rest of game again ,
The last year he got the smack laid on him by the Blanton kid body slammed him on about 25 yard line probably one of the better hits I seen in awhile .
And you got to understand that matney been playing jv. Line backers and d ends you only seen the real jc. team against lex Catholic

What's the old saying (In Big Games, Big Time players make Big Time plays) 2 of the 3 best players on the field this Friday wear maroon and white and neither is a kicker. Should be a WAR!!! By the way Baker had very bad games against Ironton, GW and Greenup last season. Look what he did against them this year. O-Line much better, Mr. Football a whole lot better.

I still don't know how he caught it. Matney said after the game the play wasn't even in the playbook he drew it up on the sideline if I remember.
JC leads 10-6.

This is going to be a war between 2 very good teams. Both teams have the potential to put up a lot of points. If Ashland don't put together 4 quarters it could get ugly for the cats. If they do it will come down to the wire. I do believe the of this game will be playing in Bowling Green.

Of course, players want to play for teams that successfully recruited them. (I have no problem with recruiting, BTW. If a school treats its students right and provides good coaching to its athletes, they need not worry about having players poached.)
Without Baker, there would be a thread discussing tie-breaker scenarios to sort out playoff seeds for Ashland, Rowan County, and Greenup County. For a D1 recruit, Brown does not carry much of Ashland's offensive load. How many 100 yard rushing games has he had this season? Any?

I think Ashland needs to host a "meet and greet" for all the Johnson Central and Ashland Bluegrass Rivals posters prior to the game. That would be great.
As for the teams, Johnson Central appears to have a balanced rushing attack between Workman, Skaggs, and Ratliff. Ashland, on the other hand, is a one man show. That one man is the best running back in the state, though.
Both Johnson Central and Ashland are victims of a terrible district schedule. Johnson Central has one quality win over Lexington Catholic. That's impressive. However, the rest of their schedule is a combined 15-35. They haven't played any other successful teams at all. Ashland's best win is against George Washington WV, who hasn't lost this season other than to Ashland. Ashland's other non-district wins were somewhat impressive blowouts of marginally good local teams Raceland, Russell, and Ironton OH.
This won't be a running clock game. Actually, I think this will be a very good and close game.
Ashland will have to rely on their team speed on defense to slow down the Johnson Central rushing attack. Any talk of a Johnson Central passing attack is just that...talk. They were 0 for 2 passing against the one good team they played, Lexington Catholic. When push comes to shove, they will stick with their bread and butter, their rushing attack.
On defense, Johnson Central will need to have 22 eyes on Baker. If Ashland wins this game, he will be the reason why. Johnson Central should never let Baker get the ball in the open field on kick returns or defensively. He is much more dangerous in these situations than he is lining up at tailback.
It should be the best football game in the area all season. Good weather forecast. Putnam Stadium in the fall. Two undefeated teams playing for the district championship and home field advantage in the playoffs. Dickie Martin ripping the refs and Matney on the radio. The best running back in the state. Lots of reason to attend this one. The "meet and greet" for the Bluegrass Rivals posters from each side would really top it off.

What is the reason Putnam stadium was built were it is?
Did somebody own the land and donate it to Ashland?
Was there no room at the high school and this was the closet place the could find?

And just why would that be? Are we talking about the same school that hasn't won a district title in years and years and years? Is this also the same team that can barely compete with its 1A & 2A rivals there in the ASSland area?
Come on Son of NotsoBAD, surely you can come up with something better than that that would be remotely believable.
