Charlie can move his foot a little today. He still hasn't had it X-rayed. I am hoping it isn't broken. He has been through a lot in the last year. WYMT was at the Belfry game last night to do a story on Charlie. It is supposed to be on Sports Overtime Saturday night.

Landon is a good player but I have seen way better players play in way tougher regions and I haven't seen them do anything. Nothing against Landon, he is a great player, I just don't think he has enough to make an impact at the next level.
I agree I have seen better players not do anything at the next level BUT Landon isn't one of those types of players. 9 times out of 10 these "better" players go on to college and don't get much playin time as a freshman so they quit. Landon has the heart and desire to make himself better and earn playin time.

alot of things factor into ... What you call "the best players"... you gotta look at the offense is it targeted on one player or is it a team with everybody doing different things to win.... The best players are the ones who score 30 and you don't even notice. they hide there ability by using there teamates

The thing people need to realize is that there are so many superior athletes in the nation to what we have here in Eastern KY. Im not trying to be condescending its just a fact. Go watch Pikeville College play, there is a kid named Will Holloman who is not a bad kid at all, I think he can from U of Richmond and he is unbelievably better and more talented than the kids you see on a regular basis in Eastern Kentucky. People think that pretty good high school players should all go play at Pikeville and other NAIA schools but the fact is that the kids that are in the NAIA can flat out ball. Look at Silverhorn from Georgetown, another good kid, he is 6'6'' can throw it down anyway he wants, beautiful jumper, great quickness, and is a better shooter than anyone in the 15th since probably Jeremy Hall. Everyone that thinks that they will see Landon or McCarty get big minutes at a D1 school is kidding there self. They may sign and sit the bench somewhere, but I guarantee there are 100's of players in NAIA that would flat out make them look stupid. I think that these kids are great players and if they do go D1 and sit it is still a tremendous accomplishment, and I commend them for it. But you need to get out and see some college basketball.

I'll post my top 5-10 or what ever a little later but one thing is for sure Landon is definitly the top player in the 15th and one of the best in the state. Thats my opinion on that and thats all I'll post about it.

I mean no offense to Landon Slone, but tonight he may have showed that he is not all he is cracked up to be. I'm not going to deny the fact that he is one of the best if not the best players in the 15th region, but to say one of the best in his class in the state is a joke. If anybody in here has seen Darius Miller or Scotty Hopson they'd understand. Bud Mackey(Junior) from Scott County has already committed to Indiana and absolutely showed Huntington High up tonight. Landon is nowhere near the caliber of these guys, and I hate to say that but it's true. There is no comparison.

IMHO, McCarty is an excellent player... real smooth with the ball. But, he forces a lot of shots and I sensed a lot of frustration on his teammates part with him in the games I have watched him play.

No defense whatsoever. moves alot on offense tho. Shoots way to much.He can fill it up when he is on but thats not all there is. I remeber reffing a couple games when he was in middle school and he done the same thing there, so nothing has changed.

Ive seen Lyle Johnson play a lot of games this year and i believe w/ out a doubt he is as good as a scorer as any 1 Ive seen beside Mccarty..plus he makes smart plays.......

Guys, does it really matter? DI is DI - they pay for you to go to school for four years and you get to play in the top level of basketball. I am sure he will go somewhere where he can be happy and play.

I know that a D-1 college is supposed to be the top level of basketball, but I think that some of them are not quite up to level as other teams. I wouldnt put Morehead at the same level as Flordia, UCLA, Duke, ect.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

One thing to remember about some of these players that are at a high level around the mountains is that even when some think they cannot play at a D-1 level they are doing much more for their team than what they are asked to do in college. I don't think in college that Landon will be asked to rebound as much or do some of the things he has to in high school. He has another year to go and no doubt will work and be a better player next year than even this year. He has alot of good things going for him in his size and shooting. He also seems to run the floor well and is pretty smart in how he plays the game. I don't know if he could play at some of the big time programs or not but I do think he will play somewhere. Morehead State was once a good place to play and had good players. Marshall has been a good program thru the years and has played in some of the national tournaments at seasons end. They were always fun to keep up with when a few of our local players were there. Over the years we have had some that did really well there. J.R. doesn't remember these names probably but McDowell had Rick Hall play there in the late 60's and Inez had Orville Stepp there. How many times do people across the state put down our players in the mountains and criticize our teams. I don't think we need to be in the same corral with these guys when we are talking about our kids. They may play at a different school than one that we go to or support but they are still mountain kids enjoying the game. I hope Landon gets many offers and goes on to play and get a free education. I would hope that every player that suits up has that dream of going on at a higher level. In all my years I only know of one that really didn't have much of a shot when he started playing. Cut when a 7th grader from the team, Left off of 8th grade night, cut when a soph. and came back to have a double double for his career. Google eyed to the end for love of the game and the mountain basketball.

No matter where LANDO plays the FREE part is what is so special.. Whether it be Florida or Morehead. Doesnt make any difference.

This post amazes me. It asks who you think the best player in the region is. It doesn't say to try and prove the other people wrong. The moment I or someone said that Landon was who we thought was the best, this post has been a free for all discussing why he is or isn't. Folks, I am done. Good luck.
