94 at Pikeville was a heartbreaker as well. Pikeville RB going in for certain score very late in the 4th but has ball punched out near the goal line and Beechwood recovered. Very flukish (lucky) play.
Beechwood had a great team and won the title but Pikeville backfield of Brent Coleman Eddie Deramus and John Hatfield punished the Beechwood defenders in the semis. BW QB was Greg Hergott who has to be kin to current BW QB?

Don't know exactly what yard line he actually fumbled on, but he was going in on the play and the Beechwood player lunged and just happened to knock the ball out. Hatfield was huge in that game also along with the other two backs.
I remember watching Hergott in that game and he literally looked like he could go the distance on every play. Great game bad result lol...I remember listening to the radio guys interviewing the Beechwood coach and he said he had to go conservative with his play calling to keep the ball away from Pikeville because those three backs were pounding his defense.

Brent fumbled at the 3 going in. I’ll never forget him crying in the locker room after the game and apologizing to us Seniors. I told him if it hadn’t been for him, we wouldn’t have gotten that far to begin with....

Welcome to Rivals Hog! According to: the 7on7’s earlier this season, the coaches from the colleges whom have offered him and those that are getting ready to make offers, his stats with limited playing time (6 games he only played 2 quarters, 2 games only played 1 quarter - so in 8 of his games only played a total of 14 quarters), running a spread offense, and playing in the state championship your post about my son says a lot more about you than it does him.

Let me just put this argument to rest with a question. Have we seen a throw over the last 2 seasons that Connor just consistently CANT make? I haven’t seen one if there is. You know me, Coach. I’m about as far from a “QB Guru” as you can get. With that said, the word “LIMITED” does not come to mind when I watch him play. I call him “Captain Connor” because his leadership, his ability to remain calm under pressure, his willingness to stick his nose in there to get that extra yard or hang in the pocket to make the throw. It’s like we have Steve Rogers back there taking snaps for us....Go Get Em, Cap!!!

I see this game being close to the very end Beechwood pulling it out. I’m looking forward to watching this game and believe it will be well worth my overpriced ticket.

I agree. I don’t want this to come across the wrong way, but it is shocking he wasn’t even the starting QB last year and look where he is now. It seems Pikeville over the past 4-5 years have started someone at QB only to replace them during the season with someone that is a borderline 1st team All-State player! 2015 and last year come to mind.

I love watching this Pikeville team play, they play hard and have fun doing it. This has always been a successful group of young men who has worked hard and put the time in to deserve this chance at their own State title. With 3 Regional championships and a state championship their freshman year the senior class has added a lot to the Pikeville tradition and has left a lasting legacy. A win this year would only confirm this more.

Pikeville needs to play like a team with nothing to lose. Beechwood has dominated Class A since their last loss in 2015 to the Panthers. They have been ranked #1 ever since and have played like it. This is their last game in Class A and are moving into Class AA next year. So they should be favored by a lot. But they better not overlook this Panther team. If we can contain Castleman, a senior who started RB as a freshman in 2015 vs Pikeville, and play a clean, physical game with Beechwood, we can pull this game out. On paper it looks like we are over matched, but when I look at players more one on one, I like our chances.

I am looking forward to this game and know this team, coaching staff and fans will be prepared and play hard and give it all they have. Just praying for a good game and injury free. No prediction of score for this game. No matter what, I think we are winners and will be a team to contend with in Class A for several years to come.

I would love to see some film on Beechwood. I’ve seen highlights but that’s it. The good thing about these two teams is they don’t beat themselves with penalties. Yes they will get some but they aren’t made of habits. Pikeville just needs to be Pikeville. They need to run what they run and not get to cute. Keep with there RPOs and a few jet sweeps and the normal.

Agree, and i was thinking the same(being overlooked throughout the state), but, imo that's ok. Think that will surprise some people at games end. Panthers have got to play the best game of the year though. However, that's why they're practicing at Kroger today. The best of the East is taking on the best of the West. I stated in another post that Beechwood is not unbeatable, and i truly believe that. Got faith in these Panthers to get the job done.

I hope you are right. No doubt Pikeville is being overlooked statewide. It's hard to know how good Beechwood line really is but Pikeville skill players as a whole are better and if the lines match up Pikeville wins.

One last post and most people would never believe it because Beechwood is hardly ever topped in the coaching department but the last time these teams met Beechwood got outcoached by the Pikeville staff and that was a huge reason Pikeville got title #4!!!

From what I seen it’s about 20% chance between 2 and 4 but goes a up some for the 3A game to about 50%
