Class AAA Regional Championship Corbin @ Powell County 11-17-17
Benchwarmer44 Wrote:That's a bit of a stretch there. Powell did beat Casey who looked like a decent team earlier this year in Corbin so...

As I said earlier, I give all the respect in the world to Powell, but they are not a traditional powerhouse or have raised any eyebrows until last Friday. The only reason I mentioned Casey in the previous post was because of the game Corbin and Casey played earlier this season. Casey earned alot of peoples respect, including Corbin's. The Redhounds have been very complimentary to Casey after that game and have talked about a rematch ever since. It's easy to get up if you're playing Belfry, Central, Boyle, or a few years ago Breathitt and Bell. Powell County's plan last week was to keep Casey's offense off the field and they did that with onside kicks, not their defense. Corbin's defense is tougher than Casey's and their offense is at the very least as good if not better. It wouldn't break my heart at all if Powell won, but I just don't see it happening tomorrow night. Good luck to both teams!
Benchwarmer44 Wrote:Big day for Powell!!! Corbin gets beat in the playoffs this year again by the Pirates, just a different group of them.Powell rolls on here 42-35!

Hey man meet me after the game so I can get some of what you're smoking. It has to be GOOOOD! The only team to put up from than 20 pts. on the Hounds Defense were, Alcoa (21), Beechwood (36), and Knox Central (21). Powell MIGHT be a lot of things, But those are 3 teams they are NOT. They will be LUCKY if they put up 14. That's not being cocky, that's an educated statement based of past results of this season! Hell we are only giving up an avg. of 11 points per game. You take away a "weird" Beechwood game and its lower than that. They've only gave up 12 points total in the playoffs. 42 points....... haha come on man. At least make a reasonable prediction that creates a discussion for debate.:flush:

Powell Co will NOT score 42 points on Corbin's defense.
legend66 Wrote:Powell is gonna to take a bad loss they have proven when faced with adversity they crumble look at them in the bath county game if a team really gets after them they cant take it. The red hounds are on the hunt for six and Powell is just another stepping stone on the gauntlet get ready Stanton the Hounds are on the loose 56-18

You do realize Powell was down at half vs. Casey? And had a goal line tackle to win? I’d call that facing adversity.

wishful thinking.:dontthink
Just to point something out Casey had only allowed 176 yards rushing in a game and it wasnt corbin that rushed that much on them until they played powell, powell rushed 284 yards against their stout defense I mean powell deserves some credit

Not all Belfry fans are arrogant Ol Buddy. But I will give you one thing, most of them are. Lol! I'm just not one of them.

You want be playing Casey County in round 3 daddy59......Just a little advice punt the ball or this game will be over by halftime :truestory:
waughdaddy59 Wrote:I don't know that Powell will win but I'm telling you that doubting them is a bad idea they are full of surprises

Waughdaddy59 who wins? You are kinda straddling both sides so, either way, you are correct.

I believe this; Corbin 44 Powell 20

Your thoughts and prediction?

From the looks of the game film...... if they kick onside kicks it’s gonna be a LONG or short- depending on how you look at it haha- night for their defense. That motion jet sweep crap isn’t gonna work with our defensive ends. They should just keep delay if game penalties the whole night until the end and throw a bomb. I’m just kidding, about the last thing at least. They might be able to control the clock a little with their run game and keep the score low. If they come in with the same game plan they did for casey. It’ll be a running clock by at least the 3rd
I just think powell has earned some credit at least we'll see though
50/50 I’ll take it
waughdaddy59 Wrote:I just think powell has earned some credit at least we'll see though

You all beat a good Casey team. Congrats on making this far. Corbin is honestly a different beast. I don’t want to come across as arrogant I was playing earlier. I actually hope that you’ll play your best game cause we plan to bring ours, the winner will need to get challenged a little cause next week they have to play a good program no matter who wins.
waughdaddy59 Wrote:I just think powell has earned some credit at least we'll see though

I’m not taking anything away from PC. They’ve made it this far after starting out they way they did. They obviously deserve to be here. But an honest opinion, is just that. I’m not taking away from casey co, but we didn’t play our best game for almost 3/4 of it, and still beat them by 3 scores. It took a goal line stop with seconds left for you to get past them. I was upset after losing to belfry last year, but ya know what? They were the better team, it just happens. It doesn’t mean corbin wasn’t any good. I’d still say 2nd best team in the class. Kinda the same right now, it doesn’t mean people are taking away from what PC had accomplished. But the game can’t end in a tie. Just judging the two teams and what each has and past results, I don’t think it’ll really be that close. We’ll score somewhere in the 40s and probably hold you to 14 or less. But I could be wrong. It’s why we play the game. Good luck though.
See you in the crow club after the game tomorrow night 44 Confusedecret:Confusedecret:
Bold prediction I know but I was one of the only ones who gave Powell a chance last week. Probably wont be able to put up that many points but hoping for some big plays and why not? Wont be a blow out by any means. still have Powell though!!TongueirateShoTongueirateShoTongueirateSho

I have to agree Hound05. I think this game will be close for about a quarter and then Corbin will get going. I really don't think it will much of a game after halftime. Powell fans, please don't take this as me trash talking your team because I'm not. I'm very impressed with how Powell responded this season after starting 0-4. Most teams would have probably just gave up on the season. You guys didn't do that and fought back and deserve to be playing Friday night. But Corbin is a monster. Their strong in all three facets of the game. Only chance I think Powell has of winning this game is if the Hounds come out flat and play sloppy the entire game (maybe looking ahead to next week) and allows Powell to hang around. If this happens then Its anybody's game. I just don't see that happening to Corbin this deep in the playoffs. Good Luck to both teams.

I hear you on the comparisons versus the Casey County game. I don't always believe you can do that, but since we are, just remember this: that same Casey offense that scored 41 against Powell County, found the end zone end zone only twice against Corbin.
Powell is coming off their biggest win in program history. So basically, it all depends on how well they can handle success. One might ask, are they satisfied playing in a regional championship? Are they going to have a letdown after the big win? I personally believe that Corbin will be too much for the Pirates. The Pirates have taken a "big step", but I don't think they have the firepower to beat Corbin. The Powell program is going in the right direction and regardless of the outcome, they have had an excellent season. With that being said, I think Haddix and the Hounds leave Stanton with a convincing win. Corbin wins 45-14. Good luck to both teams.
Gameday is upon us and I, for one, am thrilled to see all of the Pirate and Redhound supporters on here talking smack! This is the most buzz and interest around this Powell County program in their history. These are the type of seasons that help programs like Powell take that next step. Keep this stuff up until kickoff!

Now with an honest opinion and analysis.........

Powell has really embraced the underdog role this week. They are essentially playing with house money. They have absolutely no pressure on them and you will see a very loose and free wheeling Pirate team tonight. Powell is solid and Corbin is very talented, however I think a huge difference is depth. Corbin has it, Powell does not. Powell's first 11 can match up pretty well, but they will get tired. If Powell can get through that crucial period in the late 2nd quarter when a little fatigue begins to set in and not give up a couple of quick scores, then they will have a shot. Same with the mid to late 4th quarter. During those stretches if Powell can put together a couple of time consuming drives then the pressure ratchets up on Corbin. If Powell is within a score at halftime and towards the end it will be interesting to see how each team responds. Will Powell continue to believe they are destined and super heroes in some epic underdog story? Will Corbin step up and win a game they should or will the pressure to win a state title and all of the expectations they have create little cracks to be exploited? Either way the excitement generated by this game is a huge deal for Powell.

I haven't been to Stanton in a spell and I look forward to being there tonight. Safe travels and an injury free contest for all.

Shock the state! Believe! Go Pirates!
IT'S GAME DAY AND RED FRIDAY!!!!!!

Powell County hosts the Corbin Redhounds!

Great to see a Powell County team in the mix. Corbin will be there with red bells on!!

I know both teams will be playing hard, and I sure hope there are NO injuries.

Good luck Seniors on both sides of the ball!!!
It's a good thing our Bobcats made Corbin work a little bit last week because this one won't even be close. Hounds cruise into round 4...

Corbin - 42

Powell - 14
Corbin should win the game, but Powell County is no pushover, especially when you are playing without your best defensive player. At this point of the season, you can’t look ahead.

Take 1996 for example. That Corbin team was probably 2 touchdowns better than any team that this year’s 3A has to offer and would’ve have likely ran past the eventual champion Breathitt County. Of course they looked ahead to that matchup and forgot about Madison Southern. 2 weeks prior, Corbin beat Southern 49-7 only to lose 34-33 in overtime due to lack of focus.
Congrats to Powell on making it this far. Looks like Powell is another school that is moving their program in the right direction. I believe Corbins talent will be too much for the pirates this week. But that doesn't mean Powell doesn't know how to handle success like somebody said earlier. Even if Powell is able to put up several scores, I don't see them stopping Corbins offense enough times for it to matter. Hounds 48 Pirates 13

I don't know if I'd say they haven't raised any eyebrows. In 2015 they went 8-4 and beat Lexington Christian Academy 28-23. LCA scored a TD on the last play, so it should have been 28-17 Powell. Let's just say Guy Morris and staff weren't so thrilled :biglmao::biglmao::biglmao::biglmao:

Will Corbin play against and defeat pirates for two straight weeks?

Powell has not faced anyone in the same class as Corbin. Corbin is a whole new different kind of animal. Powell could play perfect and still have a running clock put on them. Make a few mistakes and it will be over at the Half. With that said. Corbin 49 Powell 10.Confusedhh:Confusedhh:
