Have a safe and happy 4th, everybody. I am getting ready to go watch the Washington fireworks from the Marine Memorial in Arlington (the Iwo Jima statue). I hate crowds and I am not a big fan of fireworks but I am afraid that I will regret it if I pass up the opportunity when I am so close to the nation's capital.

How long are you in DC? I'm there about a dozen times a year.

The federal contract that funds my position is currently in dispute (unknown to me when I was hired) but assuming that the dispute gets resolved in my employer's favor, I should be here at least until next spring. If I make it that long, my long term job prospects here will be very good but the cost of living in this area is far higher than any other place that I have worked.
