New NCAA Tournament Format Set
#1
The NCAA has decided to add a new round to
the NCAA men's basketball tournament next year, when the field
expands to 68 teams.

The men's basketball committee announced its plans Monday to
four early games, with the winners earning their way into the
64-team second round. There has been only one early game since
2001, when the field expanded to 65 teams.

Two of the so-called "First Four" games will match the lowest
seeds, between 65 and 68. The other two games will include the last
four at-large qualifiers.

That should prevent mid-majors from being over-represented in
the first-round games - and it probably means teams from BCS
conferences will be playing for the right to get to the second
round.

The dates and locations for the first-round games will be
announced later. All games will be on Turner Broadcasting's truTV
cable channel.

I hate it, 65 was a good number. If I was the NCAA, and some teams were crying for this, I would say "WIN Your Conference!!" I don't care the size of the school or anything, everyone is in a Conference that they can play in.

Each school will get over $250K for participating in this game. The NCAA & the schools are all for this, and they could care less about the wins and losses. It's a sound business reason!

Not saying you are wrong, but why would this be good? I in no way wish to add the NIT teams to the NCAA tournament. I could care less about 5 more teams that have zero chance against a #1 seed. And the 2 bubble teams will be teams that still would not have won the NIT if it was still in play. To add three more games just for the sake of adding games makes no sense from a quality standpoint. The only possitive is the money that goes into the networks pockets.

Yeah, I can agree with you on that, but does anyone think that it actually makes the tournament better. March Madness is special, just adding more fodder does not help make it better IMO.

I agree, but I think no matter how many people get in, they still will say some teams got left out.
