Hazard vs. Mayfield (1A State Finals)

Killer in the Sun Wrote:I see Mayfield with an easy win. Mayfield has more team speed than Hazard can handle. If Hazard doesnt have every defensive back with above average speed Mayfield will abuse them.

How do you know Mayfield has more team speed than Hazard can handle if you don't even know how much speed Hazard's defensive backfield has? I don't think you know anything about Hazard just like I don't know anything about Mayfield!

MayfieldCardinal Wrote:You hear alot about Mayfield's excellent passing attack but Mayfield's running game is brutal. Hazard's offense also grabs headlines and for good reason. Mayfield's defense gets no attention at all and it has been 1A's best all year so I am hopeful that will play into the Cards favor. If you buy into schedules, Mayfield's appears to be a little stronger but I dont or we would have been eliminated last night. I think Mayfield may hold a advantage in the speed department

I don't think Mayfield's schedule is any stronger than Hazard's the combined record of Hazard's opponents is 85-83 the combined record of Mayfield's opponents is 79-85. Also, Hazard beat Clay Co. who beat Scott Co. who played in the 6A semi final game. I know this doesn't mean much but another Mayfield fan diminished Hazard's win over LCA because Lexington Catholic beat LCA.

Just going on a hunch. Hazard will need 6 to 7 that can really go because thats what Mayfield has. I will say this, I know people that have a pretty good idea about this game. But we wont know anything till they play, I dont think Mayfield will overlook Hazard. 14-0 they have to be pretty good.

I know KHSAA says the game is at 11:00 A.M, but is that eastern or central time? Bowling Green operates on central time, and I was just wondering.

I wasn't aware of how good those teams that you mentioned were, so I'll cut the margin down significantly here, but still with a Mayfield lead.

Mayfield-42
Hazard-27

Highlands was up 30 to 0 on Beechwood after 1 quarter. 43-0 after a couple plays in the 2nd qtr. The reserves played for Highlands from mid-2 qtr on.

Mayfield is not anywhere near Highlands level. That said, they don't have to be. They roll Hazard 49-6.

No one from Mayfield is suggesting we are on Highlands level. However, I believe Mayfield could give Highland a decent game.

No way, Hazard may lose the game but they wont lose by 43 and if your that confidence in that than how much do you want to lay on it, PM me.

I would say the only slight advantage mayfield has on hazard is the kicking game.

I know where I can find video footage on Mayfield but does anybody know where I can find a game that Hazard has played or am I just going to have to wait to see it for myself??

The game is at 11 am Bowling Green time....12 noon Hazard time.

Wouldn't mind to see Hazard pull this one off but I feel like Mayfield may be the best team in the bottom 3 classes.

Mayfield 35 Hazard 10

Could it have been the calibur of the team they were playing?? Maybe LCA just was that good!!

I agree LCA is good, But hazard give them 13 of there 30 points off ints by jon combs. The difference between LCA and the other teams hazard played was they rolled over and quit while LCA kept there foot on the gas.

I do know that Newport Central Catholic stomped Corbin like they were nobody and they lost to Beechwood in a barn burner. What happened in the 35-28 win against Corbin and Hazard??

Hazards offense really wasnt stopped much in the game as they had over 450 yards of offense. Hazard give up big plays basically from what i can remember on special teams and corbin had pretty fair night at the passing game. I think corbin had like 250 yards of offense and corbin took advantage of the short field situations. I think a fumble and a interception also happened and poor officating as well. But Corbin was better than there thumping that NCC give them. NCC is one of those teams that will capitlize on your turnovers.

I hate to get off subject but i want to add that the Hazard and LCA game was probably the best officated game ive seen all year. The reason i brought that up was because i said the officating was poor in the corbin game.

That don't matter, If someone beat the other team one early in the season. does that mean that they are going to beat them the next time they play.

Hazard give away two TDS on INT, that give LCA 13 points. Without them, Hazard would have won by 14 or more.
#53
What type of defense does Mayfield run? I would say they just about run the same defense as hazard with a 4-3 and 4-4.

Also, LCA's last 3 points came off a Hazard Fumble on their on 20 or 30. So that was 16 fairly easy points.

That's what I was trying to get across to fans about LCA. If and when you play LCA you have to play till the last play of the game hard as you can. Because LCA doesn't quit. Lay hit till the last second.
INT's are part of the game. That's why they say defense wins championships!! Sur hope Hazard gives Mayfield all they can handle and more!!

This has all the makings to be the best game at the State Championships. Congratulations to Mark and the Hazard Bulldogs. I will be traveling down to Bowling Green to watch the Dogs on Friday

Was all of Hazard's points hard fought? Or was any points given to them!!
I don't think you give points either way. Defense causes offenses to make mistakes. And offense's make the defense make mistakes. But I don't think anything was given to anyone!! If it was a fumble or an int on the 20 or 30 yardline. It was most likely the defense confusing the offense. Or a hit that caused something to happen. Something of that nature. Doubt the QB looked at the defense and said here see if you can catch this one!!

Yeah, I believe most of the time its a 4-3 or a 4-4 but I believe we have ran the nickel some. Its our linebacker corp that makes the defense run no doubt.

Hazard.

Bring back the title dawgs!
