True Grit

Has anyone seen the remake yet? Went last night and after all of the critical acclaim, I've got to say that I was extremely disappointed. The original is one of my all time favorite movies, and I am probably one of the few on here that can say that they saw the original when it was released in the theaters in 1969.

Jeff Bridges is certainly not "The Duke". I'll even go so far to say that Matt Damon was left in the dust by Glen Campbell as well.

Didn't look like one I'd watch anyway!....the previews got on my nerves!
#3
It was worth watching but the first one was better. The girl in the remake did a good job but everyone else was inferior to the original cast members.

So shoot me, I have never been a fan of John Wayne movies so the original was never something that I watched from beginning to end. Jeff Bridges I like even less, so that gave me a double-dose of "Don't waste my money".

I hate John Wayne movies. I've said it before. I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies that I've liked.

That's kind of the way I saw it.

If you had never seen the original you might have had a different thought on the second.

I'm shocked.
I didn't think this movie was going to be anything other than a hit.

I really like the whole western theme, but I have a hard time getting into the old movies with bad special effects and I think acting in general has evolved a lot since westerns were prevalent.

To my generation, I think this movie is a step in getting westerns back in theaters.
3:10 to Yuma was what started it.
I'd love to see a remake of The Magnificent Seven.

LOL..Ill admit, Im not much of a fan of his movies either. They all go like this;
John Wayne war movies-Americans pinned deep, backs against the wall. John Wayne kills every single one of the bad guys by himself, rewrites history by executing Hitler via the figure four leglock and a single punch to the face, and single handedly wins the war for the USA.
John Wayne westerns- John Wayne single handedly whips 927 Indians and bad guy cowboys in every movie.
John Wayne sports movies- John Wayne signed by professional baseball team, goes to bat 540 times and hits 540 bottom of the 9th, game winning homeruns during the season, all the while being the only professional player ever being allowed to wear a cowboy hat.
John Wayne police movie- Take a wild guess, lol..

Funny thing, in my mind I kinda pictured you as being a John Wayne type of guy right out of Hollywood.

John Wayne movies or any kind of Western that is not like Tombstone put me to sleep.

Aside from Tombstone and a few Clint Eastwood movies, I am not much of a Western fan. This one looked good, but I will probably wait for it to come out to watch it.

Heard it got great reviews, I plan on watching it soon. I've never watched the original but there usually better than there remakes. Sometimes the first one you see is your favorite no matter what. Most people like the original longest yard the best but I watched the remake first and liked it better.

This generation loves Harry Potter. The dumbest S$%T Hollywood has produced. I always thought Harry Potter was some old dude that lived in Fleming-Neon. They also loved a movie about the guy who started Facebook. How exciting. LOL.

John Wayne's Rio Bravo and The Cowboys Was Awesome You Nuts!

Although he does die in a lot of his movies....

Tombstone And Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner Is Best Westerns Ever Smile
#19
I agree with Tombstone but there are many westerns better then the Kevin Costner version of Wyatt Earp.
#20
I still love The Unforgiven. Open Range is another good one..

All of you John Wayne haters are un-american!!

No we are just under 50 years old and have more actors to choose from than just the one you guys had growing up. All old timers like John Wayne because he was pretty much the only male super hero at the time correct?

I am under 50 and I watched John Wayne while growing up.

I watched this movie and loved every second of it.
Bridges did the character completely different, but I think it was a hit.
#27
The original is on AMC right now!
#28
Seen the original version a couple months ago when I found out there was going to be a remake. Loved the original version, and really loved the remake, except for Jeff Bridges, couldnt hardly understand a word he says, especially when he is drunk. Other than great acting, and directing by the Cohen brothers.

Watched the new one last night and loved it.
I would never watch or prefer the old one over it.

So I was planning on going and seeing this tonight, now I'm not sure. I LOVE the old spaghetti Westerns."The Good, the Bad, the Ugly", "Fistful of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More"....etc.... I love me some Clint Eastwood, John Wayne movies are ok. So what should I do? Wait until it comes out and stay home or is it worth all the effort? I want to see "The Rite", but the old man doesn't like scary movies.
