Gasoline Prices
#1
I just got back from North Myrtle Beach where I paid 2.76 9/10 per gallon for gasoline as I left town. When I arrived there prior to Christmas, I paid 2.75 9/10. When I got back to Ashland about eight hours later I noticed the price was 3.25 9/10 per gallon.

Since .49-.50 per gallon seemed a bit out of line, I decided to check the state gasoline tax for SC and for KY. I thought that possibly KY was much higher per gallon. To my surprise, I found that SC charges .16 per gallon while KY charges .15 per gallon.

Can anyone explain the difference in an honest, meaningful manner?

I have always wondered what the difference. I grew up in Worthington and come back to visit my parents and gas at Super Quick in Raceland and Jeridans (that's what it will always be to me) in Worthington is usually anywhere between .15 and .25 cents higher than Shelbyville. The only thing I can think of is taxes in Greenup and Boyd may be higher. I never could get an answer from anyone when I come and visit. Right now, gas prices in Shelby Co. range from 2.95-3.05.

John W. Clark may be able to give us some answers. He seems to control gas prices in the Ashland area.

#8
Anywhere from 3.01 to 3.09 in Russell County. Right before New Years it was 2.99 at a small gas station between Brodhead and Pulaski County.
#9
It was $2.75 in Corbin today.
However, in London it usually stays about 10-20 cents higher and sure enough it was $2.86 in London. I dont know why the government dont just make a country wide price on gas and it be the same everywhere, it would definitely even things out for everyone.
But i do see why its higher in your bigger citys where more money can be made and the price of living is higher.
It like when i buy a pop in corbin for 1.29 and then go to knoxville and its a 1.89

That has been rumored several times in the past. Just like a few years ago when gas reached $4, the democrats finally conceded to Bush to allow increased production of the US wells, and that started the decline in fuel costs. I expect that if we head to the $4 range, now that there is Conservative leadership, you will see an increase in US production again.
