Powell, Estill, Hazard or Knott will come out of the 14th. It's at Estill and there tough to beat at home. Estill is playing Powell right now and as soon as I hear something I'll be sure to post

I'll never discount Harrison County in the 10th

All 4 teams could win... I just like Powell a little more...
I don't think Hazard has the pitching and don't think Knott has the bats....
Estill is a little down from the last few years, but the home field will help.

I'm Anxious to see Estill and Knott play Next Month. Past couple time's they've played Estill has won but they all have been close (2005 & 2006)
I'm still trying to find out the score of the Estill/Powell Game

I doubt that Carroll County will win the 8th region. They lost to Grant County in 6 innings and haven't really beaten anybody. I think that the 8th region is between Collins, Oldham County, and possibly North or South Oldham.

Grant Co. is the right choice. Simon Kenton would have given them a run for their money, but now with the loss of Waibel for the year, they don't have the depth.

I haven't seen Grant County play this year. Their schedule on the KHSAA website doesn't have many games on it. Are they pretty good this year? I noticed that Simon Kenton has been struggling a bit this year. What happened to Waibel?

Knott is outscoring competition (In-state) 8.3- 1.1 so it appears they have the bats and the arms!

I know someone would bring that up.... BUT I've seen Knott play and their bats aren't that good...... Let's take a look at who they've scored on and played....
17 on Betsy Lane (1-9)
13 on Shelby Valley (3-9)
10 on Allen Central (5-10)
11 on Cordia (4-10)
18 on Jenkins (2-11)
13 on Cordia (4-10)
Don't get me wrong Knott is a good team Just don't think I trust those bats against good pitching and fielding in the regional tournament.... BUT Knott does have the best pitching in the region....

Waibel is out with a torn Bicep muscle. Took out their ace and #4 hitter all in one injury. Just before the season, starting catcher and team leader Chad Lawrence discovered he had to have surgery. That shut SK down.
Grant has Aaron Goe, who is having an incredible season and is carrying the team. He just may be enough to win the 8th by himself.

Ashland in the 16th might be a stretch. It should be a pretty even tourney this year.

I know the pitching matchups can make a difference but if you compare teams both have played, Paintsville, Prestonsburg and Allen Central. Knott has beaten all 3 including Paintsville when they threw Jackson, who is a very good pitcher. Powell lost to Paintsville and P'burg. Who has Powell looked that impressive against offensively?
Cordia 14
Owsley 39
Buckhorn 19
I'm not knocking Powell, they are a good team and will be there come Region tourney time and some will have to beat them. I believe when/if Powell and Knott play it comes down to who performs that game. I see it being a 1 run game either way. Hazard, Estill and Letcher can not be counted out.

15th- Lawrence over Pikeville
16th Ashland or Boyd
16th Ashland or Boyd

In the 15th Region(the only region I follow)..
I'd say Pikeville will win.
I'd say Pikeville will win.

I'm anxious to see how Estill and Knott plays when they meet on May 13th in Stanton
Region being at Estill they have Home Field Advantage. There Hard to beat at Home. Powell only beat Estill 3-2 in 8 at Estill, but from what I've heard Estill had there chances to win the game but couldn't push across the runs.
Since 2002 (Cause that's as far as KHSAA Goes) Estill County is 24-9 at Home against 14th Region Opponents. Since 2002 vs. 14th Region Opponents Estill County is 65-21

Lawrence County and Pikeville will be a battle in the 15th. I'll take the panthers.

That is impressive but the past won't help them win the Region.
I agree they have a shot but I would put them about 4th or 5th in line to win it.
Odds are they will make it but don't count Lee Co out in the district just yet.

Oh I'm not. You can't count out anyone til the First Round of the Districts are Over. All we can do is give our Opinions

I agree, Estill-Lee will be an interesting district matchup as will the draw in the Hazard, PCC and Leslie district.

Bourbon in the 10th? I think Harrison County would take that as a little disrespect.

I've heard rumor that Mullins is injured at Bourbon?
05-02-2011, 03:13 PM
Mullins strained his ACL but is already back and playing. Ill take Jordan Martin and Harrison County's powerful offense over Chase Mullins on the mound anyday.

I've seen Knott play a few times now and they hit the ball hard every game, and as for Powel Co. I don't see them winning the 14th at all. Prestonsburg beat them at Powel and Paintsville beat them just for a couple teams of the top of my head.

Agreed, don't see anyone beating either of these teams if they are on their game. BUT, if they are not P'burg or Johnson Central could pull an upset.
Lawrence and Pikeville would be a great game.....

Lawrence, Pikeville are a league ahead of everyone else in the 15th region.
