Ladies and Gentlemen. Get your popcorn and pepsi ready.
Thursday June 2nd, 7:00 PM AT Stonecrest in Prestonsburg:
#19 Pikeville vs. #21 Lawrence County for the 15th Region Championship. It is the game everyone has been waiting for. It could go either way, but I am expecting a great game.
Jacob Hamilton will be on the mound for Pikeville and Chandler Shepherd will be on the mound for Lawrence County. Both pitchers are undefeated on the season.
Thoughts and Predictions. Keep it civil.

Going to be a pitchers duel. LC hasn't been doing very well from the plate lately. I'm going to say LC is able to score a couple runs off Hamilton and LC wins 2-1. Very easily could flip flop that score though.

No media will cover it except local. That being said, I'm going with Pikeville by 2.

Pikeville 1 in 9 innings.

I will go ahead and make everyone's prediction for them and save time.
Every LC fan will pick LC and every Pikeville fan will pick Pikeville.
Oh yeah...Pikeville 1, LC 0

Didn't Hamilton take the loss at JC? Or was that Maynard?

Bob Seger Wrote:Didn't Hamilton take the loss at JC?Nope he left the game with a high pitch count after the 5th with Pikeville leading 4-2 and Maynard shut down JC in the 6th and gave up 3 runs in the 7th to get the L.

Gee, it's been all of two weeks ago. You'd think I could remember that far back. You are right Kestner and Hamilton both came out after 5, due to pitch counts.

Isn't Hamilton's ERA very similar to Shepherd's?
06-01-2011, 12:05 AM
Sheperd is sporting a 0.54 ERA. Is Hamiltons similiar?
06-01-2011, 12:06 AM
Pikeville 2-1 in 8
looks like it's gonna be a dandy. Best of Luck to Both Teams

Very similar.

Shepherd is definitely the more seasoned and talented pitcher at this point, but Hamilton is still dangerous if he is on and LC really struggles with Lefties. I think there is a better chance of LC scoring 5 than Pikeville scoring 5, but I think both teams are capable of putting up 2-3. I am gonna be miserable waiting for this game. Already have the butterflies going.

The radio said something like 0.46 before the JC game, didn't get to listen to the game so don't know how many ER he gave up there...anywho, his ERA is in the mid zeroes lol...

I'll take Pikeville, 4-0. Hamilton shut down LC last time he pitched, and I'll stand by my statement that Lawrence County cannot hit good left handed pitching. Also, I'm sure many people will lash me out for saying Pikeville will put 4 runs on the board against Shepherd, but they are year in and year out the best fastball hitting team in the area. The faster the pitching, the better they seem to hit it. That being said, this game will be the place to be. Very excited that I'm going to be able to watch this.

But Chandler with definitely be going to his breaking stuff a lot. LC's coaches have seen 1/4 of Pikeville's games so they know what they are doing. I'd be happy to put 2 runs on the board and hope for the best defensively. For someone to go deep at P'burg, it is gonna take a SHOT. That park plays bigger than any I have ever been around. 1-4 on both teams will be the only hope, IMO. They all can hit and will need to produce. Chandler has 8 BB on the year, so Pikeville hitters must know that he will be around the strike zone and be ready to jump on it.
That being said, I pray you are right in your prediction.
06-01-2011, 12:31 AM
This will be a great game. Even though Shepard is the better pitcher, there is just something about a tough lefty on high school hitters so I'll take Pikeville in a close one.

Watched both games tonight. Saw both teams. Here's my very much irrelevant opinion for what it's worth:
Shepherd came on and pitched the 7th for LC tonight. He was absolutely unhittable. I don't know how hard he was throwing, but his fastball was MOVING. Then, he threw a curve/slide that was almost as fast...Belfry batters never had a chance.
That being said: I just don't feel in my heart of hearts that LC can score enough to win this game. Like someone else mentioned, they struggle with good left handed pitching, and Hamilton sounds like trouble for them. Is Hamilton a better pitcher than Tyler Williams? From all indications: Yes. And LC struggled to put 1 run on the board against Williams. Is Pikeville's defense better than Belfry's? Yes, without a doubt. Are Pikeville's hitters better than Belfry's? Yes, especially if they are hitting like they did tonight.
I just think that somehow, someway Pikeville will find a way to put some runs on the board on Thursday, and LC may not. I think it will be a close game, but I see Pikeville winning.
JMO.

ok lets get all this straight.
LC cant hit lefties-hamilton is pitching hmmmm
LC is bringing the top pitcher around to the mound. hmmm
Pikeville is a good fastball hitter. chandler throws in the 90's. again...hmmm
last time these two met, tie!
better pitcher? LC
better bats? Pikeville
my brain just fried trying to predict this one. but i do believe it will be low scoring whoever wins. good luck to both, either team will represent the 15th well

If Pikeville can score 4 runs on Shepherd then they deserve to make it to state, but I just don't see that happeneing at all. Shepherd can do stuff that alot of pitchers cannot do, and that is to control the game with his arm.
Shepherd gave a little indication last night in that 7th inning.

I'm tired of hearing how great of a fastball hitting team Pikeville is. Banks owned them earlier in the year. He is low to mid 80's. They certainly didn't ping it around the yard then. They couldn't hit Shepherd his sophomore year when he shut them out. He was mid 80's then. Now he is topping out low to mid 90's. If they can square up one of his fastballs, then they should be signing D-I scholarships or going straight to the MLB draft. I'm not saying that they aren't capable of hitting him, just don't make them out to be a hitting machine because they averaged almost 10 runs a game against Phelps, Shelby Valley, and East Ridge.
They scored 5 runs against Prestonsburg and their 75 mph fastball. Again, just saying.

I'm glad it's your opinion. Pikeville's players were amazing and bragged on Belfry's defense all night. Evidently those young men saw something you evidently didn't!

Didn't say Belfry's defense was bad...it was in fact very, very good last night. The diving catch the CF made was a highlight worthy of Sports Center. Just said Pikeville's defense was better. And I still maintain that. Person for person, player for player, I think Pikeville's defense is better than Belfry's.

Well, that's your opinion and I respect that but I could list a few that I would put side by side and dare to say there is no comparison... Just sayin....
BTW, Good luck Thursday Panthers. You know what you have to do boys!

If both teams show up at their best, then it's going to be a close game with either one capable of walking away with the win. Folks, you don't want to miss
this game. My prediction is LC wins 3-2.
