LexCath 14 Somerset 7 at halftime. Jumpers are blowing wind, they've got a lot of work to do still. Lange, Slaughter and Storm are looking tough for Somerset as expected. Tanner Gadberry is the pleasant surprise. Bolin is as advertised for Catholic. Nice footwork and he throws a very nice ball. #10 is pretty nice as well.

Lightning delay 18 seconds into second half. If they decide to finish I'll let you guys know.

How did Jumper O-line and overall D look?
08-13-2011, 09:12 PM
Defense looked alright. The first touchdown for Catholic was just a blown play on a counter that went for about fifty yards for the score. The second they just marched it down the whole way. Somerset got a fumble and an interception from LexCath. Storm picked off the pass. Jumpers didn't turn it over any in the first half. O-line has a little work to do. Catholic was killing them with the blitz.

Some of the trouble with the blitz came when Catholic brought more defenders than Somerset had blockers and the Jumpers didn't hit the hot route. The Briar Jumpers ended the first half with the ball 2nd and goal on the Knights 7 yard line when time expired.

True, but they had one sack in the first half sending only four rushers. For so many young players out there they looked alright though. They did a very good job run blocking. If we had saved a timeout we could have cashed in on that last drive and gone into halftime at least 14-10. It has quit storming and it looks like they are going to go back out and finish.

I left after the rain delay but the final for the varsity was LexCath 21 Somerset 14. Pretty good showing for both teams IMO. Jumpers should be tough in 2A this year.

I think by the time the season starts the Jumpers will be prepared to make another deep run into the playoffs this year!

How did Southwestern do against Mongomery County and Pulaski do against Casey County?

I wasn't as impressed with Lex Cath QB as the OP, thought at times he got to much air under his passes leaving them open to be contested in the air. Kid has work to do, but could still be very very good.
I was most impressed with Storm Wilson, man that kid can jump. Has to be around 5'8 and out leaped a DB who was around 6'0 and took the ball away from him. Looking for big things from Somerset after this showing.
From what I saw Lex Cath is the team with work to do to be competitive in their class.

While the varsity was in for Pulaski, they were up 14-7 but overall Casey won 21-14. It will be tough not having Zach Eastham behind the helm. Aaron Smith will be the starting QB and he is only a Sophmore. He looked decent for his first showing at QB this year but still needs a lot of work.
As for Southwestern, I have not heard anything about their scrimmage.

I'll agree with that the pick Bolin threw was just up for grabs and when Storm Wilson is the defender you have to keep it away because as you said, if you throw one up for grabs against Storm he's going to come down with it. I was really most impressed with his footwork though he rarely got into tough situations in the backfield even with Tevan Slaughter breathing down his neck the whole game. The touchdown pass Bolin threw in the first half was pretty nice though, and granted I didn't catch any of the game after the rain delay but I think he will develop into a very nice high school QB by his senior year.
I definitely agree with you though, Catholic has some work to do if they hope to challenge Boyle Co. or Highlands in 4A. It's very early though and this was just a scrimmage.

I would agree with the posters. I think we have some work to do as all schools this early in the season. I feel confident that with the coaching staff we have you can rest assured we will move forward and not back. I also think that alot was left in the playbook with other coaches in the stands scouting so a true measure of what either team has was not on display last night.
On a side note Sports Express I was curious if you could send me the dates and locations of your QB camps next summer. I would look forward in hearing and seeing your expert evaluation of my son and other QB"S in the are, aswell as hearing about your exploits as a high school college and NFL QB as Im sure you were.If you can get those to me I will forward them to the Colts and Im sure P. Manning would like you to work with him before the regular season starts. I think he had to much air under his balls aswell 4 picks last night. I look forward to reading your expert evaluations (as there has been no shortage in the past) on the local talent around the area, until then feel free to offer up any information that could help my son to reach the heights of success that im sure you enjoyed.

A sports message board may not be the best place for you if you are that touchy over what one small criticism. He even finished his post by saying that he felt like he could be a very good quarterback.
There were a lot of good athletes on the field last night and as far as I can tell none of them (my son included) played a perfect game nor are they ready to jump into the NFL. Your son looks like he will be a fine player, good luck to you guys this year but try to remember that these forums are about discussion about the games and what the players do--both positive and negative. If someone attacks a kid personally that is one thing, saying that someone put too much air under a pass, missed a block or failed to put the ball away on a fumble are no personal attacks.

Wow, I know Pulaski is replacing a lot of seniors but did they expect to struggle with Casey County? Did they have some players out with injury?

Great post Norm.
People who read threads on this site as well as posters who post them have to realize the entire reason for a site like this revolves around a couple of things.
1. People are going to root for there teams and always believe there team is in the right in some situations even if there not. This becomes more personal when a parent becomes involved in posting. Thats why i believe its detrimental that posters not associate themselves with one player as this sets them up to recieve harsh criticism over there sons play. I know that all parents will protect there kids. That a GOOD thing, its a good thing that parents are even involved in there kids life as thats not the case in many situations.
2. This is a site where every play and player can be criticized at any time and opposing teams fans can really get at certain teams players and make it to where its hard not only to read but standby and not say something out of anger about another player and thats not good for anyone. Remember these are just kids.
I personally never try to call anyone player out for any reason. I think its very important that we praise these kids for there accomplisments on AND off the field. But at the end of the day this is a site of discussion. And that what 99% of this site is all about and the reason i love the posters and readers of this site. Kudos to QQ for starting such a great establisment and IMHO the best high school forum site not only in the state but in the entire country.

I totally agree. Could be a very tough couple of years for a dad with that attitude. Also.... Manning has yet to play this year, not sure how he had 4 picks??

Its not being touchy, there comes a point when you read things posted by dads who have motive on major websites you kinda get tired of reading it. I dont mean to say that this is the case here, but it has happened in the past. This sports express guy posts to facebook that I know of and other places I would guess. You cannot find one post that I have ever written that evaluated a kid. If so it will be positive. I see that this is a sports website and totally understand that everyone has an opinion. But there have been several post that I have read on our coaching staff and other kids that should have never been written. If you want to comment on a team as a whole that is fine I have no problem with that. My son doesnt read these but im sure alot of kids do,what happens when they read a negative post and are hurt by it. This is not college or pro athletics and you guys are not evaluaters of talent. Just be positive to all the kids. They only get to play H.S. ball one time in thier life. There is enough pressure on them without having to here how bad they played or what they need to do to get better. If anyone disagrees with me then you dont understand what youth athletics is all about. Venues like these are not the same as chatting over coffee at the local diner. You can say it on here and by the time it gets around the block it will be a quote from Vince Lombardi. You can call me touchy if you will but I have seen these post get a life of there own from schollys getting pulled to DUI in one kids case.and none of it be true. This is my opinion and not an opinion of anything associated with Catholic. So if you want to disagree do it with me.

Catholic was very conservative in their playcalling last night. Catholic's O moved the ball at will and their two turnovers helped Somerset stay in the game. The pick Bolin threw in the endzone was a bad decision but he was good last night. LC also fumbled on Somerset's side of the field and to me it looked like the ground caused it, but I'ld be the first to tell you my sunglasses are shaded blue. LC only had to punt once and that was after a Bolin TD pass to Bush was called back on a block in the back. So the score could have been a lot more one sided.
On D LC needs to tackle better and they will be fine. Somerset's 2nd TD came against a combination of Cath's starters and 2nd stringers and if it wasn't for a personal foul on a 4th and 15 that drive would of been stopped.
I thought Somerset was a very good team espically for a 2a school. The lightning delay was a good experience for both squads and probably gave Somerset more time to rest which would make it harder for LC's depth to kick in and give them the advantage.

I will call it touchy also. It doesn't take a QB expert to tell when someone puts too much air under his passes. This isn't little league anymore where everybody wins and gets told "good job." I agree that posts can go too far and be harmful. But these are young men, if they can't take a little constructive criticism from a fan on an internet forum, then IMO they will struggle to be mentally tough enough to play high school football.
I haven't seen your son play, but if he is as good as I've heard, then why would it bother you so much that he gets a little criticism? You should be confident that he'll come out and prove them wrong his next game.
This is a website to talk about the games, so we all have right to express our opinions on the games. And that includes our opinion of how teams and individual players performed.

Pulaski County did not look very good at their scrimmage on Saturday. Casey County was running the ball right through the Maroons. And Southwestern still has a lot of work to do, as well. The Warriors won 14 to 7, but the O-line missed a lot of blocks on Friday.
