Am I the only one who does not like this?

I think it's a good idea. QQ is giving it a trial run to see if we can get more posters on here

I could post anonymously just to start stuff. It just gives it more of a topix feel. That is just my opinion. Maybe others can give their feedback as I am sure there are many more that like it.

^Every post they have goes into moderation, I believe. They are also only allowed 5 posts before they HAVE to sign up. I could be wrong about all of this though, lol

I posted like that on accident. Thought i was signed in, hadn't posted anything in a while (just like to read threads) and didn't realize what had happened.

I completely agree with everything you have said!
I don't like it at all! Like you said, it takes 5 minutes TOPS to register whether you want to post 1 time or 1000 times!

Don't like it, and to do it to get "more posters" is just not a good idea (me being polite). If someone has something worth saying, they will take the time to register. If they don't register, then they never had anything worth saying to begin with. If the goal is to just increase the total posts, then yes, make it topix.

The idea is that they start posting a time or two, then HOPEFULLY they decide to register. I see potential drawbacks as well, but I hope it works out like it should.

I love it that the populace is responding. We needed a good debate!

I appreciate the feedback. This is not meant to be permanent. Football season brings 1000's of readers to the site. Last night, at one time, we had 1055 guests viewing the football forum alone. If I can get 25 percent of those guests involved (interested enough to register), then that will give us over 250 extra people providing insight and contributing to discussions. More people = more diversity. Diversity in opinions is what makes forums thrive.
For whatever reasons some people are hesitant to join in on discussions at communities they are not familiar with. Sometimes all it takes is just one post to "break the ice." My aim is to make it as simple as possible for someone to "chime in."
Also, every one of the guests post(s) are reviewed by a moderator before they become visible on the board.
What I will probably do is assign a unique numbered ID to guest posters based on their IP address, require them to enter a unique name, and only allow them 5 guest posts before they are asked to register if they want to continue to post.
Technically, I can set this process up so no one could tell if they are registered member or not.

I also wanted to add this, if the majority here don't like this feature, or my proposed revision of this feature, then I will happily remove it. I am for whatever the community feels is best. You all are what makes the whole thing tick. Just let your voice be heard if you do not want this feature, revised or not.

I think that having good content will give potential posters reason to register. Having unregistered posters will just reduce the quality of the content.:redboxer: I hope it works out as well.

Well after that explanation I say lets give it a trial run. More people the better. I like message boards to have good lively discussion and new threads popping up.
I hate posting in threads and then have to wait 2 days for someone to respond.

People need to sign in to protect the kids and coaches.

I personally, don't like having unregistered members posting but if it is going to be done as a trial run I do like the fact that QQ mentioned setting a limit to how many posts an unregistered member can have before being forced to register. Although, I think that I would set the limit at 3 posts instead of 5. Kind of the concept that if you get a little taste of it, you will want more and hopefully they will register.

We would/could identify a guest poster the same as registered member via IP address.
If a guest poster attacks a player or coach, then that post will never hit the board. All guest post(s) are sent to a moderators queue where they are reviewed(either approved or denied) before becoming visible to anyone.

Yes, 3 would probably be sufficient enough to give them a taste.

What about this.
Ballers and I work at SYKES where there are 100's of people running off of the same network. And there are several more posters coming from there.
The network's DHCP server retrieves a new private IP address every morning and all browsing is done by 1 public IP address.
Wouldn't everyone at SYKES be recognized as a single IP address?
Can you track it by MAC address?

If posts are moderated before they hit the forums, and then after 5 posts you are required to register, I'd say it sounds great. This allows a trial version for folks that don't want to just waste a whole account on one or two posts. Great idea, IMO.

Yes, you are right. Registered member or not, a person savvy enough can proxy to bypass a ban. I am not aware of any process to reliably capture the MAC address. However, those can be changed/spoofed too.
I do not ban non-spam IP addresses because many schools and workplaces share the same static IP.
IMO, if a person is that dead set on causing trouble, then they will go through the registration process to do so. Realistically, the only way to control all the content is to moderate every post from everyone. That is definitely not an ideal solution.. All we can do is remove the content when it violates the rules, and move on.
This is another reason I want to implement the dislike button. If the community dislikes a post enough it would send it back to the moderators queue to be reviewed. This would allow the whole community to moderate the board. But even that can be abused by somebody dead set on causing trouble.
