Hazard 35 Prestonsburg 12
#1
Final from Floyd County. Very impressive win for Hazard.
#2
Pathetic effort tonight from Prestonsburg.

The whole team looked like zombies out there.

Congrats Hazard! You guys have a classy bunch that's very talented and very well coached.
#3
Congrats to the Dawgs
#4
wow, shocked to say the least, congrats to Hazard
#5
No surprise with the outcome, just with the winning margin.

Good win Dawgs!

What happened to PBurg?
#7
Like all season, Prestonsburg could not stop the run. Hazard controlled the clock in the 1st half.

Prestonsburg moved the ball into the redzone 3 or 4 times and come away with ZERO points.

Don't know why we aren't kicking XPs either.

I have only seen PBurg play against Betsy Layne, so I cannot judge anything about them because I honestly do not know much about them. Does PBurg have a good powerful back this year though that can pound it through the middle and at least fall for a extra yard whenever they are hit because against Betsy Layne it seemed there whole offense was screen plays and end arounds. A really good running back is a must when you get to the red zone and the field shortens and even more important on two point conversions.

Congrats Bulldogs. You owned it tonight. Offensive line play was excellent and on defense the pass coverage was top notch. P-burg looked terrible, and the effort was poor. It was like they were ready to get the night over with and go home from the first play. Hazard you are a class act.
#10
Congrats Hazard
#11
We all know Hazard has the athletes but I think coach Dixon could have a good winning season with almost any team, to go to Pburg and win by this margin is a pretty hard task. Congrats Dawgs.
#12
Good job, BULLDOGS!!!
#13
Good win for Hazard. P-burg did not look like the same team when they faced perry. They were just not focused or something. Like Blackcat said P-burg got into the redzone 3 or 4 times but turned it over on downs. Hazards defense was fair given up a few big plays but not really breaking. This also was one of the fastest games ive watched. Very good officiated game but just couldnt understand the one play that hazard scored the td on that was called back on a false start. Never heard any whistles but may of not been paying that much attention. Saw a few teams down there scouting tonight. I saw Leslie dont know if any one else was there or not.

I think it was an illegal formation or shift. I believe the same signal is used as false start but the play continues. Not for sure though!

Very impressed with the Bulldogs tonight. Obviously a talented, well-coached team who displayed excellent fundamentals all night long. Hazard will be a tough team to beat in 1A through the tourney.

For Prestonsburg...

Haven't seen such poor play from a defensive front since 2005, and that squad didn't have near the size and speed of this one. The secondary is good downfield vs. the pass, but not against the short pass or in run support.

-- I'm shocked at how truly BAD this team looks against a competent running offense...this has been the case all year. Don't know if it's lack of leadership, or simply a -passive- group (it is NOT coaching - this staff has fielded some GREAT defenses), but if the season is to be saved, this must STOP now--

For P-burg on offense, the Bulldogs laid back in a loose zone and P-burg couldn't crack it. To the plus, the offensive line did a good job pass blocking as the QB was rarely pressured. Crisp had plenty of time, yet he again locked his eyes onto a single receiver (telegraphing his throws). Collins looked -much- improved hitting the line, though he didn't get many opportunities to carry the ball (P-burg was playing catchup all night).

side note: Heard Jamerson is still not doing kicking duties due to a pulled hamstring. That makes sense because his mobility was definately hampered tonight in the secondary.

The old saying Speed Kills!!! Hazard's defense is very fast!

I think it was illegal formation. Probably not enough men on the LOS. That would explain the play not being blown dead.

As BCA said earlier, the Blackcats could NOT stop the run. And Hazard just ran it whenever and however they wanted all night.

Congrats Dawgs!
#20
figure the Dawgs would pull it out but the win margin really shocked me too. not the same blackcats we saw at stanville playing thought they would give the dawgs a better game than they did...
#21
Well, this is a big surprise for me.

Good game boys. The Hazard-Pikeville game is going to be awesome.

HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS !!!! Good Job Dawgs !! In control from start to finish !!!!

Is Pburg overrated?
#24
I really like the Blanton kid for Hazard. Good both sides of the ball. Tough and has speed and that's a great combination. What year is he?

In my opinion YES!
Prestonsburg has lost to every good team we have played this year.

The defense is Awful and cant stop the run or the pass. Only good thing about this team has been the offense, but they only put up 12 points so you cant win many like that.

Zack Blanton is a senior.

WOW!!!!! Congrats Hazard..Keep your heads up Blackcats...

Prestonsburg is not overrated. They just could not get anything going last night. It may of been the hazard defense but it could of been just not executing. P-burg needs to run the ball alittle more in my opinion behind the # 21 and # 8. Then after a few runs set them up for the pass. Im sure the jet sweep works quite a bit but running up between the tackles will help. # 21 would be a great blocking back for # 8. P-burg needs to try to be balance and not mix in to many pass plays. P-burg will get better before the playoffs start.
#29
Prestonsburg does need to run the ball more out of something other than the jet sweep. We simply don't have the speed to out run the defenders to the sideline.

The old power-I Derossett used to run with Craynon/Setser was quite successful against a lot of really good teams and Prestonsburg has a big line this season that can bully defenses around. Just imagine a backfield with Cook, Collins and Williams. That's a lot of talent there. However, the offense wasn't really a problem until last night and that's something that can be fixed with the rigth play-calling.

The defense is what should be worrying everyone. Over the past several years we've had the "bend but don't break" defense, but this season we have a defense that is breaking and that's something Blackcat fans aren't used to seeing. We've never really seen past teams give up as many points as this team has this season.
#30
Prestonsburg is NOT overrated. They simply are having a rough time stopping the run. That's it, Coach Derrosett will have them ready come playoff time.

But I do agree that they need to run the ball more. And not so much passing.
