JJ Jude is now the all-time leading rusher in Kentucky History.

Congrats JJ, you deserve this. I have spoke to this young man at track meets & he is a very humble & polite young man. Good luck with Highlands next week JJ & company.

EKUAlum05 Wrote:When it comes to high school football records you can make any number of "complaints".

Ace Wales- "It is not fair that he is setting the record and it is a sham. Wales
has had tons of D-1 talent around him that has made him look good. Additionally his team plays 15 games every year instead of 13!"

Derek Homer- "His record is a sham! He got every single carry! If he had to play on a wishbone team like Jude with 4 legitimate running threats he wouldn't have nearly the yards!"

Jeremy Britt- "This record is a farce! He started his career at a 4A school and transferred to a 1A school... he was used to 4A competition and when he started playing these 1A teams lucky to dress 22 players total he had an unfair advantage. He wouldn't have this record had he stayed at a 4A school!"

See what I did there? All arguments are asinine and quite frankly would reap of sour grapes. Anytime you see crazy statistics at the HS level, there is going to be an advantage that led to this occurring that can be pointed to (even if it is a stretch). We aren't judging him to be the best RB of all-time...we are judging him to be the most productive..... HUGE DIFFERENCE. If that were the case we would require a perfect scenario for someone to set this record solely playing a GCL type of schedule, with an average offensive line, getting only 20-25 carries a game, and never seeing a touch when their team is up over 4 TD's, and play on a team that has a 50/50 balanced offense.

When someone posts "Who is the Best Back of All-Time", then you can argue away... but as it stands now it smells of being petty and wanting to flame when a young man who has busted his ass has his rightful time to be celebrated.

Like your response.

However Danville was 2A, not 1A, when Britt transferred to the Admirals. Just thought I'd point that out.

Congrats to JJ Jude and his accomplishment.

So many people want to take shots at people without truly knowing them. I met J.J. when he and my son played grade school ball against each other. He had just moved to the area and they became friends and opponents and now they are teammates. He is without a doubt one of the nicest young men that I have been associated with. He is a refection of his parents and I am proud to call him and his parents my friends. I have been around JC football since the early 1970's and have witnessed some very bad football. I am proud of what our program has become and part of that can be attibuted to J.J. He makes his teammates work hard both on the field and in the weightroom. If he has to get what some consider too many carries, then so be it. Personally, I feel that if he got 70 carries in a game he has earned it. Anyone that knows J.J. and does not feel this way cannot truly call themselves an Eagle fan. Be proud of what you have done young man, for I am proud of you.

JJ got that record fair and square. Maybe next year some of you people on here that likes to run your mouth can pick a schedule for us that you feel is fair since obviously ours was such a cake walk this year. Congrats JJ!!! You deserve that record and you will be missed next year.

The thing that critics of Jude's accomplishments fail to acknowledge is that he had some very productive games against some tough competition. His 400+ yards rushing in a playoff game against Covington Catholic comes to mind. He played very well in games against Bell County, Boyle County, and Highlands, for example, even though those teams held him well under 200 yards rushing.

Throughout his career, Jude has found ways to make big contributions on offense and defense even when teams have found ways to contain his running game - halfback passes, touchdown receptions, kick-off returns, punting, fake punts, sacks, etc. No player in my memory has contributed in more ways to his team's success than J. J. Jude. He is a big time playmaker.

The record is a great but Jude will be remembered as the best high school player that has ever played for Johnson Central and one of the best ever to play in eastern Kentucky.

Congratulations, J. J. Jude, and good luck in next week's game. Beyond that, good luck defending your state wrestling title and in whatever challenges your college choice provides next fall.

congrats JJ

No one said he's not a great player. No one said he didn't have big numbers in close games against good teams.

What I said basically was he shouldn't be playing 4qtrs and piling up 437 yards when his team is up 40pts against teams that couldn't beat a decent freshmen team!!!!! He wouldn't have 437 yards if he only played 2 qtrs in a game like that. That's how the respectable programs handle that situation.

Two things:

1. I can't complain about Jude getting that ball when his team was winning. He don't fumble and he deserves the carries. He did the work.

2. What makes his accomplishment ever more amazing is all the reps he played over the years on defense. We lost a heartbreaker to JC last year and his defense did as much to cause that as what he did running the ball. Most premier running backs have the luxury of resting half the game. Jude played iron man ball and still was basically unstoppable.

I also want to agree with all the fine things that have been said about this young man's personality and character. We met him at a camp or two this year and on a recruiting visit and he is top notch. I wish him the very best in finishing this season strong with some big upsets and big yards.
#71
Congrats Mr Jude. Thought I would throw this in for what its worth. Jude has broken this record in 5 fewer games and if JC loses this week and Central goes to the finals then that means JJ has set the record in almost 1 full regular season faster. Some say JJ gets 30+ carries a game. He does in some. I don't know if Wales could survive that much punishment. That's one thing that makes this record so impressive.

The thing about J.J. is that he is a true competitor. he wants to be on the field for every play of the game,it would be a injustice to J.J. for coach Matney not to let him play as much as he does. J.J. has worked to hard for people who call themselves adults to belittle what he has done on the football field.I think that everyone could lean a few things from this young man [ determination dedication to be the best you can be] Congrats J.J. you make watching football amazing..............

I agree, I have said many times that he does not get enough credit for his defensive play. I even made a comment last year that I thought he looked better on the defensive side of the ball than the offensive. I do not think anybody on here is putting JJ down, it is his coach that many question.

He is not the only high school player who is a true competitor, who wants to be on the field for every play, and who works hard! Towles for HHS fits all the above mentioned. Would it be ok for coach to play him four quarters in blow out games when he already has 4TD passes and 400 yards in the first half? I do not think you would be saying the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot. People would be ripping HHS if he did that. In fact they get some people stating they run up the score now, when he only plays the starters 1-2 quarters. Once agian, I think people miss read the post on here; The kid is a good high school athlete who deserves praises, it is the coach who is getting taken to the wood shed.

Congrats Mr. Jude! Great accomplishment. And by all accounts, he is also an exceptionally fine young person. Again, kuddos. The kind of person who you envision when you look at record holders.

When the coach calls your number, you run as hard as you can every time, and that's what he did. Now many may take exception at his coach's conduct and that is fair criticism (b/c he might not have the record otherwise). But it wasn't JJ who made those decisions. He just ran the plays when asked. And he gained all of those yards through great talent and effort.

EKUAlum05 Wrote:"Towles has an unfair advantage. Highlands is clearly one of the 3 best teams in the state year in and year out...they have one of the best O-lines to protect him... their coach is too smart.... and they have former NFL guys coaching him up. His records are a sham. Why did Highlands pass the ball? They could beat those teams running a QB sneak the whole time. The only reason they passed was because they wanted to get him his stats!"

You wouldn't know what a respectable program is! Probably too young for Mitchell. Here some other names you bring up in cake-town not just for football. Frisk, Draud, Beagle, Lorenzen, Smith. All just to make the insecure alumni feel like somebody. Don't throw stones when you live glass houses!

Question: did he start his freshmen year and if so how many linemen has JC lost to graduation over the years.

Wideleft01 I bet your one of those guys who B!tchs about when the ref make a call no matter what. The point is: JC going to run the BALL. Sorry but all them teams didn't stop him... So what if he got his yards against us we won. End of story. This in not last year.

Would we be talking the same way if travis elliott didn't get hurt and broke the nky rushing record?

Mueller says highlands wasn't running up scoreNov 6 1997

Highlands high school football coach dale Mueller said wednesday that he wasn't trying to run up the score on Simon Kenton last Friday night, but was just trying get Junior qb Jared Lorenzen his 2000 yards passing in a Season. Mueller has come under some scrutiny for leaving Lorenzen in the game to start the second half of the 76-0 victory, even thought highlands held a 55-0 halftime lead. Lorenzen needed 301 yards in fridays game to become the First qb in nky history to reach 2000 yards in the regular season.
after passing for 291 yards and six touchdowns in the first half. Mueller allowed him to start the second half in an attempt to get 10 more yards . On hhs first play of second half mueller called for a 12yd out parttern to derek smith but when SK blitzed Lorenzen who completed 17-20 att threw instead in desperation for wide out randy stegman who caught the ball over a defender and raced 80 yards for a td.

Opps are we busted too. how dare us leave a player in to get a record Wideleft01
Shame on us and JC too...I got the paper if you wanna see it WL Smile

GREAT JOB JJ I hope you get a chance to play at the next Level.

Just think about who and what these people are that are criticizing J.J. and comparing this and that. They're middle aged people fighting over what high school/high schooler is the best? Haha have a little school pride but try to have some personal pride and dignity and realize what it is. Teenagers playing games! The Nothing trivial guy can go worship at the altar of Dale Mueller if he wants but we don't want to hear about your man crush. Good for Highlands for having a recruiting base of the greater Cincinnati area and being able to dominate the POOR competition they beat up on every year. Look at their last 3 reg season games and a few others. They do run scores up and pad stats. Congrats J.J.!

This remark is hilarious!!! Wales is a very strong powerful runner. He's running game has done nothing but improve for the better over the years. The Central coach will not leave him on the game if they are blowing a team out by 40pts!!! Wales comes out of the game. Wales is taking on defenders that are D1 kids!!!! That's great JJ broke the record but to say Wales couldn't survive the "punishment" is just totally wrong.
