So you know by the age a lot of great football has been played including a game with cov cath in 1988. Second I think is the design It's a horshoe style stadium that seats about 4,000 people its like a mini Ohio state as far as design goes. Also it is one of the few stadiums left that isn't used as an athletic complex for other sports which means no track around the field so the fans are right on top of the players not pushed back away from the field. And once you think of all the great Ashland Teams like the 75 jaws team as well as all the great teams from other schools that have played there like Russell, Ironton, Belfry, Bell, Highlands, Cov Cath, JC etc.. you realize that your watching a place where a lot of the greats in ky history have played and to see a football game in that venue is pretty special not just for Ashland fans but for the entire state. I also believe it is the only stadium on the Kentucky list of historical landmarks.
when has Highlands played there? It looks like a very nice stadium, but looks like the seats are a little low for a good view. Highlands also has no track, so it sits right on top of the field; win this weeks game and you get to come check out our field. Good Luck.

At Highlands

Highlands played there in 1992. Then beat Covcath at Covcath the next week in a revenge game. That's the last time I remember Highlands playing there. It looks like a really neat stadium. Is it still natural grass? Maybe Highlands will be fortunate enough to play there over the next couple of years. It does look similar to Elder's Pit.

Picked a garbage day to go, but I was in the area and stopped by to see Putnam Stadium a few weeks ago. A very cool stadium, but tough to get a good view of if it isn't game night.
First, some historical perspective:

Some Ashland pride:

Finally, what little I could see through the humidity:

I have been thinking about this one all week... I really think that Ashland is the best team that we have played this year. I think Covington comes into Ashland and leaves with a L... Ashland will win this game in my opinion...
Ashland 21
Cov 13
Ashland 21
Cov 13

You have not played CCH, so how do you know they are not better?

I don't... Just going by what I have seen outa Ashland this year and basing what I have seen outa Covington the past few years... I may be completely wrong... Hope not though... I like seeing Eastern KY teams win!

CCH crushed Ashlands last year and are much better this year. That means Ashland would have had to improve tremendously to beat CCH this year. I am not saying they can't win, but they are the underdogs in this game. This is going to be a very exciting game to follow tonight.

Ironton Also crushed Ashland Last year This year Ashland returned the favor to two of those teams. I don't think they will but if cov cath comes in expecting last years Ashland Team the tomcats will make it an even 3 for 3 on payback games.

Cov. Cath will win this game big but I could be wrong. state championship next week at the Fort.

This is going to be a very exciting game to follow tonight.Ashland suffered some key injuries that contributed to a late season collapse last year. Johnson Central bolted to a big lead within the first two or three minutes of the game against the Tomcats but Ashland closed the gap and played the Golden Eagles pretty evenly the rest of the way.
The gap between last year's Ashland team and Covington Catholic was not as big as you think. The Tomcats are healthy this season, they returned a lot of talented players, and unlike last season, they entered the playoffs with plenty of momentum. Maybe the result will be the same as last season, but Ashland is very capable of winning this game.

Putnam Stadium has always been a wonderful venue for high school football. It is often said that playing at Putnam Stadium is an automatic 10 points for Ashland. That may be true.
Money is being raised to greatly modify the old stadium and add a lot of "Tomcat" nuances. As one who doesn't partake of the maroon kool-aid, I believe it will lessen the appeal of the stadium considerably.

I agree the real state championship will be next week. But I disagree cov cath will be playing in it.

Are you actually saying that a FTH-Ashland matchup would be the "real state championship" in Class 4A? Surely not. That is absurd. It is fine to be a partisan but at least be a bit of a realist. Not only are FTH and Ashland not on the same page in football, they aren't even in the same library. Your only chance tonight to beat CovCath is your home field advantage.
Now, on the other hand, FTH-CovCath could be a state championship type game although I believe FTH would win by a goodly margin.

In a close game, the home field advantage often comes into play, but points-wise it is not that big a factor. The best team will win tonight's game. Period.

Hold your horses guys,
Somewhere I remember seeing that after a Regional final there are two road games for the winner. One in central Kentucky, most likely at either Lexington Catholic or Boyle County and the second in Bowling Green. I understand that you think that the survivor of the Johnson Central, Highlands, Ashland and CovCath group is the best in KY, but those other teams still present an obstacle to bring home the hardware.

I'm saying I believe 4 of the 5 best teams with the 5th being lex cath play In this region. I know you believe Highlands will win it. But for hypothetical say Ashland Beats both cov cath and highlands(remember just hypothetical) would you or would you not say they are the favorites?

That's a BIG if, but yes they then would be the favorites.
