I think the JCHS fans would even right me a recommendation as long as I upheld that last by-law...

MCDADDY Wrote:I really don't see where it is that big of deal either way considering the circumstances. Everyone knows Matney likes to pad the score himself sometimes. Don't get me wrong, he's not a Derosset who will throw on your freshman DB's after being up 40 in the 4th, but Matney will do things like run the counter play or belly second back when trying to run clock. Only person i have ever seen that can intentionally not run the score up on teams is Haywood at Belfry. He will run the full back dive every play and allow kids to carry the ball that he knows can't score. Very seldom have i ever seen him score over 60 in a blowout. He doesn't do it and frankly, his kids won't either. I have seen them go down on break away runs in that situation.
There are coaches that have more state titles, there are coaches that will surpass him as the winningest coach, but Coach Haywood will never be surpassed as the "classiest" coach in the state of Kentucky. There are many other quality, classy coaches in the state, but Haywood is at the pinnacle.

I think Hoot and Stardust should get together and start a sports talkshow debating issues in Kentucky High School Sports. They can call the show "Hootie and the Blowfish". I forgot that name is already taken. Dang.

Hoot, I actually enjoy your perspective and am glad you are on this board to debate. Afterall, that is the purpose of this board. If I wanted to just hear how great Highlands was all the time, with little or no anti-Highlands rhetoric, I would spend my time on the other board. It's boring over there. I expect the Johnson fans, Ashland fans, Boyle fans, whoever to fully support their team regardless of what anyone says about them. Highlands has more people rooting against them than any team in the state. It's because they win. Did anyone even mention Johnson prior to the past half dozen or so years? NO. They were irrelevant. Take it as a compliment that your team is regarded. Highlands has your team in their target. That means your on the map. Do you think anyone in Ft. Thomas was glad to play some of the other teams they had to play? Highlands cares about beating Johnson Central. Highlands cares about beating Covcath. Highlands cares about beating Boyle Co. That's the ultimate compliment to your program and what your working to achieve. All the hard work over the last decade has your team on the map. For that, Coach Matney, the Johnson players, and the Johnson fans should be commended.

LOL, look in the mirror. LOL, now all of a sudden Hoot has gotten his feelings hurt after he tries SO HARD to get under others skin. Let's be real Hoot, you are soo disturbed that you could not come on here and save face to the prediction conversations and now you, the one who loves to dish, just can't take some of his own medicine. You want to be left alone, then you leave everyone else alone, otherwise, what's good for the goose is good for the gander-er.

What's to moderate? No one is cussing, no one is doing anything other than stating there opinions. It's an opinion board. Like I said Hoot, I'm glad you're on here. I respect your opinions even if I don't like them. You are part of what makes this board interesting. I wanted nothing more than your team to beat Covcath. Fact is, your team wasn't good enough. Just as I predicted. Sometimes if you want a job to get done, you have to do it yourself.
Thus, Highlands has to beat Covcath themselves. Maybe they won't. If they don't I'll get on here and tell Covcath I can't stand them, they shouldn't have won, and I hope they lose the next game. I might also tell them to enjoy it, because it will never happen again. Doesn't matter if I'm right. That's my opinion. It also doesn't mean that I dislike anyone from Covcath. Lots of good people over there. I just root against their team.

Hoot Gibson Wrote:Not really. I was just eager to see how Highlands fans (including your adoptee, Stardust) would rationalize Mueller' decision to run up the score and risk injuries to Towles and the other Bluebirds starters by playing them the fourth quarter of a blowout win. The double standard is exactly what I expected.
I assume that the Highlands supporters who are not defending Mueller know good sportsmanship when the see it - and when they don't.
Since some may think I fit in the category you were describing, I want to make it clear that I had no problem with Dale keeping the starters in as long as they did. Once the Mercy Rule kicked in, they came out. We saw what could happen when Highlands pulled it starters: JC kept it's starting O in the game; Gound had a nice long TD run; and did it pretty quickly. Give JC too many opportunities to do that (as a result of no Mercy Rule) and the score gets uncomfortably close. If that would have happened, I'd have really been disappointed with Dale.
By the way, the Gound kid is fast. He looked pretty good throughout the game. Kid is a sophomore, correct? If so, he should be a very good one the next couple of years. Reminded me of the former JC QB. JK Hall if I remember the name correctly.
Sorry to see Sanor and Jude graduate. Both exceptionally good high school players that I enjoyed watching. Best of luck to both of them in their future endeavors. I know Jude is going to be wrestling in college; what are Sanor's plans? Whatever happened to Tanner Bratton? Is he at college? If so, is he playing ball? My all time favorite JC player.
Nice game Birds. O and D executed pretty darn well. I hate singling out one or two players because all the kids played so darn well, but Devon Bruns was absolutely outstanding Friday night. Absolutely outstanding. Well done young man. Birds had lots of penalties but that had a lot to do with the fact that refs from different regions "interpret" rules differently. That's the same with all sports. Some region's basketball refs "let them play"; other regions' refs hate the way basketball has become so physical, so they call ticky tack fouls. Birds just need to do better adjusting to the style of the refereeing. While the Birds fans were lathered up about all the calls (and I wondered about a couple of them myself) most of the penalties called against the Birds involved refs from the Lex area calling penalties that the N. Ky refs let go. I can't say the refs (or the penalties) were wrong; they just interpret the rules differently.
On to CovCath. Birds have to execute much better this time than they did in the first game. We made some uncharacteristic unforced errors in the first game that must be elimintated. CovCath will again be trying to strip the ball every time they can. They practice it during the year and preach it the week of the Highlands game. Ball security will be extremely important.

DALE Wrote:Highlands is a very, VERY good team. Towles has a laser for an arm, making pin-point throws in tight spots. I think I may have to get my season tickets again for UK if he is under center, lots of potential. Both sides have some knuckle heads for fans, but don't let a small minority make an impression for the majority of fans from both sides. I had a good time talking with the individual from Highlands on the far side of the endzone next to the booster tables, super individual and really enjoyed our conversation. I hope the WR that got hurt makes a speedy recovery, as I hate to see anyone get hurt especially after making a huge catch. The individual from JC was a Sophomore that suffered a severe concussion and was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Special thanks to the Bluebird fan(s) that drove his father to the emergency room. I'm sure the sincere gesture was greatly appreciated by his family and all the JC faithful. Best of luck to Highlands throughout the remainder of the playoffs.
Any updates on the health status of the young man from JC taken to Children's Hospital? Anything further folks from Ft. Thomas can do to help him or his family?

to the bluebirds, thats probably one of the best fielded high school team that i have ever seen in person. the discipline and heart is unbelievable. the pure knowledge of the game is something that is not just taught 5months a year , good luck in your quest for another state title from what i seen friday night ,i think u can chalk up another. hope the sheenan kid is alright seems to be a great athlete. we are fielding good teams down here now but we have a long way to go before we can call it a tradition. with all that bieng said this is on a differant note ,i've seen on post early in the thread about the problem in the stands, but they are all thru the eyes of hhs fans.the four guys from hhs and me know who started the trouble.but heres my take .they sat right in the middle of our fan section with one thing on there mind and that was to push the buttons of any and all the eagle fans , when I turned to tell them how disrespectful they were being.one started screaming profanities.but lets get one thing straight some of you say he set things straight he was screaming to start a seen so the cops would come running to save his ass period.my son was a senior on that field and he played his last high school football game and there was nothing going to keep me from seeing that so that is why cooler heads prevailed no other reason to hhs football team goodluck ,to the good fans of fort thomas thanks for having us . to the guys behind me hope to see you next year

Did you guys make amends? Or, are you saying you can't wait til next year to tangle with the guys? I know there are lots of Highlands fans who sit down that end every week. I used to myself. If I sit down there, I do not yell loudly out of respect to the other team. Most other teams don't have any fans. I agree if they're going to sit down there, they should be respectful to the other teams fans.
I used to enjoy sitting down there and meeting new people myself. However, the way Highlands slaps teams, it can be uncomfortable and the fans can be in an honary mood. That's why I moved back to the other end.
FYI, I personally wouldn't tangle with the guys who sit down that way myself. Especially the guy who was ready to mix it up who must have took exception to whatever was said. I don't know your size or statue, but my money would be on your opponent regardless.I also doubt they'll skip next years next years game on account of fear of some Johnson folk.

How long will Johnson take off before starting the off season conditioning? I would start it on January 1. I bet Jude worked out Saturday morning and his career in high school ended. I did enjoy watching the kid play football. I was a critic of some of his yards, but Jude could play on my team any time.

I remember Gino. I believed he played for UC. You are probably right about the toughness but this is really an immature argument usually relegated to grade schools kids when you start saying " our fans are tougher and you don't want to mess with them because they will whip your butts". Arrogance will get you a state championship in football, but in fighting it will often result in you getting a one way trip to the graveyard.

Could someone from JC please let us know how the young man that had to leave in the ambulance is doing? I'm much more interested in that than what the Johnson County jail is like or whether our fans can whip your fans butts (goodness, some of you sound like little kids).
