Unbeaten Scott County hosts Boone County in the 6A semifinals, making this the fourth year in a row the Cardinals have still been playing football Thanksgiving week. "When it first happened, we didn't let the kids enjoy it as as much as we should have," Coach Jim McKee said. "Now we try to make it a good time for them." Scott County had a Thanksgiving dinner in the school cafeteria Wednesday night and an open practice for family and fans Thursday morning. "Thanksgiving is the best holiday," McKee said. "It's not commercialized, and I don't have to go out and buy 400 gifts." As for Boone County, McKee expects more of what Scott County has seen out of the Rebels the last several years. "They're always well-coached and physical; they like to run the ball and play good defense," McKee said.

Class 6A state semifinal: Boone County (9-4) at Scott County (13-0)
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today at Toyota Stadium, Georgetown.
WHAT TO WATCH: There should be plenty of rushing attempts if both teams have their way. Boone County threw only three passes (completing none) in last week's 21-0 win over Lexington Lafayette, while Scott County operates proficiently out of the run-oriented Wing-T offense. Boone County coach Rick Thompson said he knows his team will probably have to have success passing the ball for it to win and Kameron Schwartz has had some big games this season. Scott County averages almost 270 yards rushing per game and most of its throws come off play-action and result in big plays as Ben Lawler is averaging 21.2 yards per completion. Scott County, which reached the state semifinals the last two seasons, has gotten off to fast starts in games this season and heading into last week's game against Louisville Eastern had outscored foes 189-0 in the first quarter before Eastern scored in the opening quarter. Scott County allowed just 48 points in the regular season, but allowed 65 in the three playoff games. Boone County allowed just 48 yards total offense to Lafayette last week and in winning five of its last six games allowed just 41 points in the five wins. Reynolds, who also is a standout linebacker for the Rebels, has been a nice addition in the backfield to Cody Rodriguez and Bryson Thompson and has rushed for 258 yards on 40 carries in the three playoff wins after rushing for just 123 yards on 30 carries in the regular season.
BOTTOM LINE: Boone County has simply found ways to win and its defense is playing extremely well, but Scott County's closest win came by 14 points and it won every other game by at least 28 points, a few coming against teams Boone County beat in close games
