How does this compare with previous years at WKU and then how does it compare with Papa Johns?

So it has stayed somewhat average since 2006. Could that be because of the live streaming on the internet?
12-04-2011, 12:36 PM
One thing the 6A game isn't attracting 20,000 plus like the 4A use to. You made a good point about watching and listening on the internet.
12-04-2011, 01:42 PM
The internet probably does have an impact, particularly on those with significant travel. But I tell you what, it shouldn't have that much, because this weekend made it clear the internet feed is no replacement. Terrible announcing, poor camera work, etc. derailed that. It was nice to have something to watch those games, but wow do they need to improve.

It was usually between two teams (T & X) whose fans could almost walk to the games.

Good find on this stuff. Looks like they need the Championship games back in Louisville
12-04-2011, 02:12 PM
i think it is the internet, weather conditions plays a factor. But I tell you some of the match-ups in the Six class alignment isn't very good. One note on my research the game that boosted the overall attendance would be the 4A game under the old alignment due to the part of there being mainlty two Jefferson County teams playing . That one game would be around 50 percent of the paid attendance for the weekend. That's a huge difference. By the way Bowling green conducted there Christmas Parade on Saturday around the same time I was driving to the stadium for the Belfry game.

The numbers in all classes don't back that up unless T and X are playing each other.

It looks to me that the 6A figures show that the majority of Trinity fans will NOT travel outside of Jefferson County.
That does not surprise me. Does it surprise anyone?

Overall average for the last two years the championships were held in PJCS was 38,780.5
Overall average for the first three years the championships have been held in BG was 41,752.67
So BG seems to be the winner.
I have been to each of the last five championships and prefer the WKU Stadium and atmosphere over the UL stadium and atmosphere.

The Trinity and Highlands game didn't have huge amounts...but if you're the opposing team and you know you're going to lose, no point in sending a lot of people.
12-04-2011, 06:01 PM
Sending a lot of people? If you are a fan and are able to go, you go. If you don't go, you're not much of a fan.

Exactly, when Trinity & St.X played in the finals, it was easier for fans to go watch it in Louisville rather than drive over an hour to go watch it.
Another thing to remember is last year in 4A Allen County Scottsville, a big school played in the finals for the 1st time and they're only 30 minutes away.
I think the webcast kept fans from schools in NKY, the mountains, and louisville from going where they maybe would've gone if it was shown on internet. But looking at the data, the average from this year is pretty close to what it was in louisville. But i still think Louisville is a better, more central location.

I wish there was a way to know how many fans each team had.
5,360 is a small number considering there was alot of red and white yesterday for Belfry.

So the only UK fans are the ones that went to the game? If you choose to go to work rather than call in your not a fan? Best of luck to all these kids but my paycheck means more to me than a game. I did go Saturday btw but not friday

That is a small number....from seeing the numbers the years I have seen Belfry there, I would guess that town is a ghost town the day of their state title game.

Central does not seem to have a great following. If you look at the attendance at PJCS for 2007 and 2008, you can prpbably extrapolate that the majority of people at those games were from Belfry and Breathitt Co.

We were asked last Friday by the woman at the Garrard gate, "Is there anyone left in Belfry?"

I now live in Minnesota and I have to admit that when Highlands was in the finals in Louisville, I actually drove down to watch the game. I would consider doing the same if the games were in Lexington or Richmond as I have family I could stay with and I could make the drive in one day. Bowling Green is just too far and I would never consider it.

That does not surprise me. This was a foregone conclusion. 240 mile round trip on a Friday night....Doesn't appear many of the Bowling Green faithful showed up for their Saturday evening tussle. Much older school, many more living alumni, game in their back yard?
If Papa John's was available, there could be a discussion. PJCS won't be as long as U of L is in the Big East. ESPN dictates and refuses to release a TV schedule before February. The first weekend in December must be held back for Big East by U of L.
