Joe Paterno Passes at 85 (1926-2012)
#1
Everyone has their opinion bout what happen at Penn State. I think the man should have done more than what he did but the man is still a legend in the college football world.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Paterno family.

RIP Joe Pa.

Sad on many levels. May you find peace JoePa

Joe Paterno was a great man. He was a credit to football and, more so, to the human race. The world in general and college football in particular need more Joe Paternos. Let those of you who never made an alleged mistake take your shots. Let those of you who are human beings show proper respect. If you must demonize, release your venom at Sandusky and those like Sandusky.

I pray for Joe's family and I hope in some way hope that Joe reached out to those who were victimized under his watch when he allowed too much to happen, and seeked their forgiveness. He did not need mine!

Great sports legends does not make great people, we see it every day. Joe was a winner on the football field!

As a college football fan and former college football player, I thank JoePa for everything he offered to the sport. His legacy will be tainted for his failure to do enough for the abuse victims. Yet, for 40+ years, he won and won the right way, using football to show that things can be done the right way.

I was lucky enough to meet Paterno a couple times when I was younger. He came to Cincinnati to recruit Andre Barkley and JaJa Taylor, both RBs that played for my dad. The only thing I specifically remember was that when coaches came in to talk to recruits, they always brought candy, gum or autographed something for the kids that were around. Paterno was the only one that didn't do that because he jokingly say, it might be an NCAA violation cause someday, I might be recruiting you.

Such a sad, sad ending...R.I.P Joe Pa!

I commend ESPN for devoting its telecast schedule today to the memory of Joe Paterno.

Let he is without sin cast the first stone.

God bless Joe Paterno, and his family. And props to the family for ignoring Penn States attempts to reach out on someone they hung out to dry.

^ Casting Stones, I'm casting Boulders at an adult that will LET gods children (could have been YOUR child) be molested by your BEST FRIEND! I'll let God be the Judge, I said that. Let any man who allows the sin of your brother on that of a child have their day of reckoning!

I don't rape kids, and certainly don't defend those that let people on their staff rape kids, yeah I'll through a stone. God bless the boys that were raped after Joe knew what his buddy Sandusky was doing, and kept him on the staff. How many kids were raped after Joe knew, only the boys and God knows. I'm glad your kid didn't go to a camp at Penn State, I'd hate to see you defending him then.

^ Thank you buddy. If my feelings towards this sends me to hell, then so be it! It may not be my job to judge, but Jesus did not sit in the Temple and let the priests continue to cheat and steal from his people. No, he raised hell and he turned that place upside down. That's something that Joe could have done! But he figured that since no one else did anything, then it must be OK. He continued to support and give access to that sick bastard Sandusky, and for that, Joe will have to atone to those kids who he did nothing for when he reaches the pearly gates!

Right. Joe got off a lot easier than kids under his watch(since he let Jerry stay around), he got to die an old man without having some grown man rape him. I don't blame Joe for the kids that got raped before he knew, but he is the fault of every rape that happened by Jerry after he knew, at least on that campus.

With my wife being a social worker that handles sexually abused kids, and the stories I hear, this is a subject that is very close to me.

^ Even off campus. Jerry should have had the privilege to get his @$$ raped in Jail years ago!

I never realized that we have a couple of saints posting on this forum. I would venture to say that neither would want the same venom used on them as they choose to put on Paterno unless, of course, they are perfect (which, of course, is somewhat doubtful).

I won't judge. However, from everything we know about his life, I would have to believe that Paterno's chances of getting a high five from God are excellent and, most likely, better than most of us. Do you suppose God is concerned about the fact that most of you have said and done nothing while more than 50,000,000 babies have been aborted in the US since Roe v Wade (January 22, 1973)? Whatever "standard" you boys want to use for Paterno needs to be used on you, don't you think?

^ Spin the "TRUTH" any way you want it. I said I'm not the one who has to judge him. If God is giving High Fives to someone who may have allowed your child to get raped, you just might feel like the families that did not support them. I'm around kids every day! I have no tolerance for those who KNOWINGLY allow children to have their lives devastated!

This is not debatable. Paterno did not need the blessing of me! My life is not clean, but I never allowed my best friend to rape a child and sat back and celebrated life with that scum!

I can't add anything to help this post. Other than, I can't believe the people that take up for Joe, knowing his buddy was raping kids. If God is giving Joe hi fives, I don't want to be around there.

I'm not going to sit here and defend Joe for what he did, or failed to do. But Paterno didn't knowingly allow that to happen. There's a HUGE difference between not doing enough to prevent it and aiding in allowing it to happen. Joe didn't contact the right authorities, he didn't follow up to make sure it was handled, but some of you guys are making it seem like Paterno brought these kids in and put them right in front of Sandusky and told him have fun.

Obviously, Paterno did a horrible job of handling it, but for me to call Joe an evil human being is doing a huge service to the real monster Sandusky than it is punishing Joe, and Sandusky deserves way more than what he's got and what he's going to get. And until Sandusky gets what he deserves and more, than I won't focus my anger on anyone other than him.

Coach Paterno being a 75 year old man at the time didn't know what to do. So he took it to his bosses who then swept it under the rug.
Being in his shoes at that age and frankly he was somewhat sheltered or better yet lived his life in a bubble, I don't know what I would have done in the same situation. I know what I would do or I think I know what I would do (hopefully I'm never in that position) but for him I can see why he did what he did

Wow, deleting my post? not cool.

It is indeed surprising to learn that, not only do we have a few saints posting in this forum, they are also judges. Still, their unbending comdemnation of Paterno using the prevailing set of actual facts as we know them is extreme at best. I guess we should provide a broom for them to clean up all that broken glass from their glass houses. Those rocks can be dangerous, can't they?

Great coach.

Sad it all ended the way it did and even sadder that he will prbably be remembered more for the scandal than his coaching abilities.

You would feel a little different if he didn't report this if it was your child.

No matter how you feel about what Joe Pa did or did not do....it is still a tragic end to a football legacy.
