Working Out
#1
Any other gym rats in here? Id like to get a good discussion going on work outs, diet, supplements...whatever.
#2
Trivial, I have been a gym rat for years. Over the past few years, I was the 60 minute workout guy that just didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. I was turned on to http://www.Crossfit.com Best thing that EVER happened to me. The workouts are intense, and average about 20 minutes to complete. I breathe and sweat more in those 20 minutes than I have in years. I've never tried p90X, but the guys that I have shared the above site with who have done p90X, like this better and they CAN fit 20 minutes in five days a week consistently!

I like crossfit. I used to be a big time gym rat, then got lazy and didnt got for probably 2 years. Just recently started getting my diet right and got back into the gym.

I have a home gym. I knew one of the instructors at 4 Seasons and he helped me build a regiment which involved cardio and weight training. This has helped me drop 45 pounds since September. Looking to up my game as spring starts to approach.
#11
I would love to go to 4 seasons and start training sometime, Ive heard great things about them.

I lift weights at least three days a week in my basement and have a descent set up. I've benched 440 raw and won a few sanctioned bench meets. I've also done a set of 16 reps with 315 on the bench press. Now I'm concentrating on dropping some body fat. I do higher reps and really concentrate on the essentric part of each rep. I hate cardio but I do walk every now and then, but not like I should. I'm also on a really strict carb cycling diet which I hate but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Have you ever looked into intermittent fasting?

I've read a little about it but not tried it. Is that what you do?

Once I get my diet down a little more, Im gonna start. Right now its Calories in vs Calories out for me. You said you were dropping some body fat, are you counting calories?

I'm on a diet I got from powerlifter Brandon Lily. He designed it specifically for me. It's more of a carb cycling diet. I eat 6 meals a day including protein shakes with a higher carb day every 4th day. I don't count anything. I just eat exactly what he says. It's very effective.

Nice. Im just happy my lifts are going up, and my weight is going down.

I'd say so. You're obviously doing something right. Anytime my body fat drops a lot, my lifts start dropping. I'm 38 years old now so I'm getting old and am finished powerlifting. I will always lift weights though.
#19
Normally I wouldnt be doing that. I let my body fat % get pretty high though. Im starting to hit a plateau where my lifts are evening out as im getting into a acceptable % range.

I am brother. I have one hell of a workout I created over about a year, I guarantee you'll be hard pressed to find a better one. It'll burn your ass up. Just let me know if ya want it and I'll PM it to ya. Wink

And I prefer cardio much, much more than weights. Also prefer pushups, situps, that kind of stuff rather than weights. But, I still lift, especially now that I'm getting out of the Army.

Whats a great diet for losing weight fast.
What kind of foods can a guy eat that wont put any fat on?
Ive gained about 30 pounds since high school.
Keep in mind that i was 6'4 220 pounds in high school and worked out six days a week purely for strength conditioning and getting stronger. Now, that im older and not really into being strong as much as i am being fit and shedding pounds im wanting to get into a good eating diet that will help me shed back some pounds without having to work out all the time.

They seemed pretty legit and all of their instructors were great. I would have joined if I didn't live out of town.

For loosing weight fast there is a diet created for heart patients to help them shed pounds quick due to upcoming procedures or if they are high in the heart attack range. I do not know the specifics of the diet but I am sure it is listed on the web somewhere.

I know that people say low fat foods will help in not gaining weight but my opinion based on what has helped me is no fried foods (except maybe once and a while and keep them in small portions) also foods that contain low calories. I found foods that were close to zero calories so that I could eat them for snacks, etc... and not worry about it going against my daily calorie intake and it would keep me satisfied. There is an app you can get called "MyFitnessPal". It helps you keep track of your daily activities, calories and goals for weight loss. I would plan out my meals for the day using the app so that I would know as the day went on if I had room to eat something not on my list. Just by doing this and not working out I shed 30 pounds in 6 months. Now, I have have added a work out and am currently 5lbs under my target weight so I am trying to tone everything up.

From my personal experience, what I have found that helps to loose weight is to either eat less or eat healthier food and be active. A person's body wants to move so let it.

I'm obviously no diet guru and the wrong person to answer this, but there are different schools of thought and more than one way to skin a cat. One school of thought is:

Eat smaller meals every 2 and a half to 3 hours to keep your blood sugar level and keep from getting extremely hungry. Good food choice are:

Carbs: Complex carbs such as: Old fashion oats, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, fiberous veggies. Some people limit fruit but I think apples, bananas, berries, grape fruit are ok.

Protein: Egg whites, nonfat cottage cheese, greek yogurt, skinless chicken breast, tuna in water, white fishes, lean red meat, protein powder.

Healthy fats: Natural peanut butter, almonds, olive oil, flax seed oil.

They also say not to combine your healthy fats with your carbs in the same meal.

But then again if you are active enough, I figure you can eat whatever you want.

Not really. There's a whole lot of people out there a lot stronger than me. I felt my strongest when I worked on a strip mine and worked reclamation. My lifts were not as good, but I was stronger where it counted. I'd take that any day. IMO the strongest people are those that bust there butt everyday doing manual labor jobs and never set foot in a gym. They are man strong.

I agree and IMO this is why in MMA a lot of the strength regiments do not use free standing weights but use tractor tires, sledge hammers, etc...

If you have ever done one of the sledgehammer workouts, you are sore and use muscles in places you never thought possible.

I've never done sledge hammer workout but I've chopped a lot of wood using wedges and a sledge hammer.

Thanks guys.
Ive always had problems with my weight surging 20 pounds in couple weeks, or losing 20 in a couple of weeks.
Starting to believe i have a thyroid problem. I know its not sugar or cholesterol issues.
