Question: NKY vs Jefferson Co
#1
I have an agrument with a fellow coach:
Take Trinity and St. X away from Jefferson Co and Higlands and Cov Cath away from NKY.
Who has the best Football?
#2
I'm going to say it's too close to call
#3
Central vs Boone Co
Manual vs Ryle
Lou Holy Cross vs Beechwood
Male vs Conner
Butler vs Cov Holy Cross
Fairdale vs Campbell Co
#4
I would also throw in match ups of

Ballard vs. Dixie Heights
Eastern vs. Cooper

...or match them up, however, nonetheless, those 4 teams need to be in the equation.
My vote goes to Jeff Co.

Jefferson County by far.

Way more D1 players come out of those schools than NKY schools. I know that doesn't mean much head-to-head, but I'd still take the Jefferson County schools.

NKY coaching is 10x better though.

I wouldn't go that far about coaching, as a matter of fact, I don't know that there is any difference.

Central- Ty Scroggins....4 State Titles the past 5 years (never had won one before, granted there weren't 6 classes either, nononethless, I'll give credit where credit is due and when you can real off 4 in 5 years, I don't care if it's one class or 100...that's "doing work" as the kids say these days.

Ballard- Coach Jackson. He has had success at Oldham County, then Pikeville in his short stay and has Ballard rolling.

Fairdale- Chirs Engstrand. He took over before this past year and even though the record didn't show it, he is a very good coach. He was at Henry County for 4 years and took them to the region finals TWICE in that span.

Male- Chris Wolfe. Wolfe got out of coaching for a. It, but he took over at Male before the '10 season and took them to the state finals in his first year. Wolfe also had success at PRP and Waggener in Jefferson County. He took Waggener to the 3A State Finals in '98, losing to J-Lo and company at Highlands. I don't think Waggener had ever been to the finals befor he took them and I know they haven't been back since.

Manual- Oliver Lucas. Maybe best known for his time spent at Bryan Station for a few years before he took over at Manual a couple years ago. Bryan Station had been a bottom dweller for a few years prior to his arrival. I believe it was Lucas' last year at Bryan Station when he took them up to Highlands as a 4 seed, only to lose to Highlands 28-21 I believe?

Those are just to name a few, but there is some very good coaching going on in Jefferson County.

I don't doubt that for a bit. I just think that more NKY coaches do more with less talent. However, those NKY teams don't have Trinity or X to go through.

From NKY missing a couple of teams in the equation including perennial state contender Newport Catholic (2A) and Simon Kenton who made the 6A finals a few years ago. I am sure others could be listed from Jefferson co such as Fern Creek, Western, etc.

Interesting question. Many more large schools in J Co. Central has become a consistent powerhouse. Western seems to be improving in recent years. Seems to me to be a pretty even matchup. The question may turn on whether Male and Manual are having up years or down years (which may be hard to tell under the new district alignment).

A beginning of the year J Co/NKy kickoff showdown between some of the better teams from the two areas (rotated year-to-year) would be fun including also the powerhouse teams excluded from the thread question matched up.

Definitely NKY gets more out of their talent than does JC. The populace disparity puts fewer athletes in NKY schools than the most populated area in the state. Consider Louisville metro has a total of 750K in the area, compared to NKY's 3 counties totaling 400K, then hands down NKY exceeds what they should be able to do. NKY is far more successful than the underachieving and highly affluent Lexington's 680K population.

You sure about Wolfe being the coach at Waggener in 98? He's a Highlands grad and I don't recall remembering that Waggener had a former Bird coaching them. The KHSAA scoreboard as Ken Hockman as the head coach of Waggener in 98. Perhaps Wolfe was an asst coach?
