Idk i feel like when running the ball isn't working you havta start trying new things. Like maybe passing. I've always been a big fan of Bill parcells or Tom Coughlins style of coaching. But after i seen what harbaugh done for the 49er's, I would love to have a coach with somewhat of his ability to connect with the players. I beleive Newton could be a great quarterback with a motivator and not a mediocre wanna be coach.

I watched Mark Richt absolutely give a game away to Michigan State last year in the Bowl game. Got the lead and just quit being aggressive.
Give me an example of Joker being a bad coach.
He barely beat Western, a team that he should have blown out. He beat teams no more than 24 pts (14-3, 38-14, 30-13, 10-7, 27-13) against teams he should have blown out. What LSU, South Carolina, Florida done to us is what we should be doing to those small teams, Western, Central Michigan, Jacksonville State but no he can't do that, he has trouble with them.

FBALL Wrote:I don't see him as a joke. Joker was an big part of Rich Brooks success at UK. Part of that success led to guys leaving early for the NFL and the flop of Newton trying to play QB. I still laugh at the guys that wanted to play him over Hartline.
Apparently a lot of you have forgotten Brooks losing at home to the mighty Ohio University Bobcats. Good Lord imagine if Joker had been the head coach then.
As I've said. I like the young talent I have seen. I think we will be OK.
Petrino is a pure scumbag. You guys think he's going to pull a reverse Pitino and long to come back to the Bluegrass even if it's his former nemesis? That's naive to say the least. He might take the job but he would only be using it. He would be out at the first sign of something bigger.
Congratulations on being one of the very few dumbasses who likes Joker.
If you need proof of his awful coaching, get out any game tape from the entire year and watch it.
His stupd ass could coach his way out of a playbook. Not to mention he cant recruit for shit.
Petrino is a proven winner that could potentially turn a program around. Joker is and never will be that coach. Im not going to judge Petrino for what he done or say hes a scumbag because i know nothing of the situation and neither do you plus its his personal life, who gives a shit? I want him to coach football, not be our PR person.

Hell yeah...but...lol i think were stuck with joker another year anyhow

What has kept Joker's head above water is two wins - the win over South Carolina, and the win over Tennessee. I honestly believe that had we lost to Tennessee, we may be looking at a new football coach right now. I hope he succeeds, but honestly I just don't think he has what it takes to coach in the SEC. Should he succeed, I don't mind eating crow one bit. But I just don't think it will happen.

I have realistic expectations of UK football. They are never going to be great. Years ago, the UK administration made a decision between Rupp and Bryant. They chose to emphasize basketball. It has shown throughout the years.
If UK seriously invested dollars into the football program, I could get excited. As is the case now, I am content with the toilet bowl. I do not expect a coach with Joker's pay-grade to ever be a legit SEC Title contender, ESPECIALLY the SEC Title. Remember, the recruiting at UK for football over the past few years is better than it has been in decades!

My predictions for the next 10 coaches at Kentucky. Most all will have losing records when leaving UK. Some will go to bottom tier bowls. None will win the SEC. The highest that any coach will finish in the SEC is the middle of the pack and that will be a rarity. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightening or winning the lottery then a Kentucky football team has winning the National championship.

Oh my God. Now it's Jokers fault Newton is terrible.
I'm just going to pause and laugh about that one for a while.

It's not about who Petrino screws. It's about the schools, organizations and assistant coaches he screwed over and out right lied to. Yeah, that's the guy I want to put my trust in. He is a proven user.
The simple fact that you would refer to me as a dumbass confirms my beliefs. Thank you.

BROOKS LOST TO OHIO UNIVERSITY AT HOME. Now we are outraged because Jokers teams haven't beaten people by enough?

Joker can't beat LSU. Rich Brooks Did. Rich Brooks can actually win enough games to make it to a bowl game whether it's in the Liberty Bowl or Music City, it's still a bowl game, Joker well he can barely win 5. Riverside Christian will come closer to winning more games in basketball then Joker will at UK in Football. We all know how Riverside is

I'm still waiting for a specific example of poor coaching from Joker.
"could coach his way out of a playbook" doesn't exactly do it. I don't even think its a criticism.

We don't have to agree on everything to respect each others opinions. That would be boring.
Told Stardust the same thing.

Didn't Rich Brooks have UK in the top 10 at one point?
Maybe top 5?
I know that was pretty early in the season but he beat the teams to get them there.
The bottom line is:
UK hasn't had success and now they are rebuilding....
We can get on here and talk about giving Joker time...
but what are your honest expectations for Joker if he gets 2 more years?
What can this man do?
If I was playing QB and calling the plays myself I'm confident I could have skanked a win out over WKU last year.
Go ahead and scoff at that...
I usually don't make claims like that on here...
but that game should NEVER have been close.
And we get to the SEC schedule and we don't just lose....
we pad stats for the opposing schools second team.
Vandy dropped us by 30 this year.
Does anyone rememeber that atrocity?
South Carolina beat us by 50!!!
LSU beat us by 30.
Florida by 40.
Maybe top 5?

I seem to remember all these same things being said about Rich Brooks and now he is the standard by which Joker is being judged. Don't get me wrong I don't like the teams he has put out there but I think he should get at least this year and maybe one more depending on how this year goes to get the kids for his system. We could be like the Raiders I guess and change coaches every year but I am of the firm belief that once you hire a coach you have to give them a few years to really see what they can do and 2 years isn't long enough.
04-23-2012, 03:07 AM
I can give one example of bad coaching, replacing the OL coach he replaced a few years ago. That was an absolute god awful move for any coach to make...if you arent familiar then look up which family the OL coach married into.

Yet his ass is kissed by some of you and that same some of you want Jokers on a plate.
I like Brooks. Thought he did a hell of a job. There appears to a huge double standard here though.

You can't fault Joker Phillips for the fact that UK will not put more resources into the Football program.....until then, we will always have mediocore coaches which will bring mediocore success...
04-23-2012, 09:06 AM
I say give Joker one or two more years, but after what I have seen so far he is a 10X better offensive coordinator than head coach.
04-23-2012, 10:53 AM
Im not sure i understand the love for Brooks either.
The guy literally had one decent year while Joker has had none.
And no i dont count going 6-6 and heading to a bull shit bowl a successful year.
Its time for a change and a complete wipe out of this coaching staff.

Rich Brooks did get a lot of heat his first two years, but if I am correct wasn't Kentucky in some trouble with the NCAA at the time that prevented him from being able to do a whole lot?

I'll take Tricky Rick Minter in a heartbeat over those 2.
04-23-2012, 09:12 PM
A winning record and a bowl game at UK IS a successful season.
Hopefully over time we get those standards raised but historically speaking brooks and Joker have been as good as anybody UK has ever had except Bryant.

If the football program declines to the Bill Curry level I'll join in with calling for a change. But Brooks and Phillips buit this thing and got it to a level of respectability. Sustaining and building on that requires long term stability. Regime change will not help that.
I think it's great people are pissed off about .500 records and minor bowl games. That tells me UK has come a long way.
