So it's the same as last year, but flip flop the locations? Are you sure about the Bluegrass Bowl schedule though? I did not think the same teams play on that the bowl.

A pretty good schedule.

Same Schedule just flip flopped.

As for the Bluegrass Bowl, that's what the Lexington Catholic website shows

The schedule on LC's website is for the 2011 season. I have not heard anything about the 2012 schedule.

That's what I though. Ofcourse the district games, just flip flop their location but not sure about the non- district games.

The schedule looks good except for the BGB. That usually takes time to line up the teams and is usually not confirmed until early summer.

What about the team... Who will be their playmakers? Other than Bolin

Offensive:

Kyle Bolin will lead the Knights. Kyle has already committed to the University of Louisville and was 1st Team All-City last year. He should be in the running for Mr. Football in 2012. Besides his athletic skill he brings strong leadership to the team.

All 3 running backs return - Tailbacks Marcelius Logan (#10), Amoh Kumengisa (#28) and Full back Noah Mitchell (#22). All 3 will be juniors. Logan is good around the edge, Kumengisa is a speedster and Mitchell gets lots of yards after initial contact and has a nose for the end zone when inside the 10.

Wide outs Dave Bouvier (#12) and Casey Nash (#26) both return. They were 2 and 3 in catches behind graduating senior Adam Bush. Bouvier will be a junior, Nash a senior. Bush has been Bolin's favorite target but Bouvier and Nash work very well with Bolin. Bouvier was 1st team All-city as a sophomore last year. Nash was 2nd team All-city

Defense:

Graduating seniors seniors include All-city LB Jordon Artrip and DB Adam Wachs. 2011 leading tacklers DB Alex Nash (#31) and LB Josh Mesmer (#11) return. Nash was 1st team All-city in 2011, Mesmer was 2nd team All-city in 2011. Nash is very quick off the snap and he is on track to set defensive career records with a good 2012. He will be a senior. Mesmer will be a junior.

Other returning defensive players include Michael Vogelsang (#42) and Anthoney Kearsey (#13). They bring both size and and speed to the 3-5 defense that Catholic runs. They will both be seniors.

Look for junior Marty Brown (#5) to make an impact on defense. An early season injury limited his play in 2011.

Linemen:

There were a number of graduating seniors on both sides of the line - Center/DL Kurt Wilhelmus, OL/DL Big Oscar Melendez, DE Corey Mesmer and OL Trey Lankford. But returning line include Ridge Jackson (#53), Alex Buckles (#70), Trey Mattingly (#51) - 2nd team All-city in 2011, Will Childers (#72). They will all be seniors. Look for sophmore-to-be Cameron Baily and junior-to-be Brandon McKinnley to join this group.

Look for Sam Letton to make an impact as a freshman - possibly at tight end. He made some incredible plays as an 8th grader for Team Kentucky that went to San Antonio.

The Knights have lost to the eventual State Champions the last three years. The last 2 those teams have included Kentucky's Mr. Football (Dawson from Boyle Co. and Towles from Highlands). 4A is a tough class to be in.

The Knights will be strong in 2012 and should make a good run.

How do you think they will do against Boyle, Cov Cath and Highlands? This will be the top 4A teams IMO.

Boyle is graduating two outstanding players in Hester and Cox and may not be as strong in 2012. So LexCath should have the advantage in 2012. But this is an in-district, twice-a-year rival matchup that usually are close games. So nothing is given here.

CovCath had a big win in the Bluegrass Bowl 2 years ago. Both teams were young but that was the year that 11 of the 22 starters were sophomores. In 2012 those players will be 3 year starting seniors so LexCath should match up well against CovCath should they play in 2012.

If you take away the two kickoff returns in the Highlands-LexCath playoff game it probably would have been an even closer game than it was easily. The game was tied with 8 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Statistically the teams were similar in that game with both getting over 300 years in offense. In between the 20 yard lines the teams looked very similar with strong quarterbacks who were excellent at reading the coverage and making passes.

The main difference was that LexCath relied mostly on Bolin's arm and a spread offense usually in a single back set up. And they stay in that set up all the way in. When they got in the red zone Highlands would power it in using there strong running backs and excellent blocking.

Catholic will need an improved running game if there is a Highlands rematch in 2012. The spread offense allows Bolin and his receivers to make big plays against less consistent teams. But against the discipline of Highlands a more balanced attack where the pass is set up by the run is probably needed.

you might also mention that both the JV and Freshmen teams for lex cath went undefeated last year. Both had convincing wins over Boyle County. there will be several sophmores to be that can contrirbute next year. by the way it is spelled bailey.

Indeed you are correct granddad. That freshman team was special from what I saw on the field. Ryan, Couch, Boling, Pedroche, Gray, Bailey among others. They contributed nice too when they played JV. Nice future for the Knights.

I think you did with this...

The JV and freshman teams did have great years. Bill Letton and his staff have done a great job at all the levels. With Highlands, CovCath and of course in-district rival Boyle all in 4A this important.

Traditionally LexCath seems to have stronger teams on the 'odd' years. But 2012 and beyond should change that pattern.

Is a fundraiser for improved visitor side scoreboard and bleachers in the plans at LexCath? It is greatly needed.

has the Bluegrass Bowl been set yet? Last I heard they were still looking for teams

Kyle Bolin should be a front runner for Mr. Football

Lexington Catholic will be playing Ensworth, TN at 9 PM in the Bluegrass Bowl

I think Quick should be and will be the front runner!
#22
The Bluegrass Bowl game vs. Ensworth will be shown on ESPN U. Ensworth is a preseason top 25 team in the nation according to Maxpreps and number 1 in Tennessee.
#23
They are the best 2 players, but Private school players are always behind the 8 ball.

I think Ryan Timmons out of Franklin County should be the only player considered for Mr. Football this year.
