I have not heard a lot about the HC search there in the recent weeks. I know Arvin left and it has been posted. Anyone have any additional info? When might they make a decision? I know they have been hit and miss, but with the right guy that is a program that could win some ball games. Would be a great fit for a young coach looking to build IMO.

Last I had heard was they were going to start interviews once school was out.

Wow, when does school get out? I had a buddy tell me that they were bringing in people either this week or next but he didn't know specific names. Hopefully someone could get in and at least get the ball rolling prior to school letting out. Do they have to have a board meeting to confirm like some counties?

IMO Grant County needs to find someone who is wanting to run the ball. You have to be able to run the ball in order to win ball games. Last year they were able to throw the ball fairly well but that is all they relied on. They had a first year quarterback and expected him to make play after play. I believe he had 27 INT's at the end of the regular season and averaging 3 a game. You can't win with that. And their offensive line isnt build strong enough to give a quarterback the time needed to drop back and make an accurate throw every play. Buy if they can get someone who wants to run the ball, watch out because I believe they could make some noise. Their senior class this year has a whole lot of talent.

You need to coach them. I want to see you run the ball all the time without a strong offensive line.

Last year's QB had to take over the QB spot with little experience. The last time he played QB was a couple of games his 8th grade year. He has been at the WR position since his Freshmen year on Varsity. He worked very hard to learn the Franklin System. He did have several INT's but did not average 3 a game. He didn't play a spring sport so that he could concentrate on getting better for his Senior year. He has attended some QB camps also. These Grant County kids are eager to have a good season, but it is hard to do so when you will have had 3 coaches in 3 years. The QB's highlights can be seen on Hudl.com.

Other than the QB, do they have a lot coming back? WHat coaches have put in? In many ways it may seem like an undesireable postion but there could be an upside. Not knowing the specifics it can be hard to guess, but any predictions on what is going to take place there?

Grant County is a mess when it comes to keeping a Coach. They have never had enough success to be in the position to dictate on if they want to force a coach out. The boosters have a big hand in this. They had disagreements with the last two coaches and they no longer are the Head Coach. They had disagreements with the coach before the last two who ultimatley took a lot better job. What they need is stability. There is one coach who still teaches at the High School who has been there since 2001 and has been passed up on getting the Head Coach job. Sure he didnt have expierence as a Head Coach but if they would have hired him back in 2005 when Coach Bowlin left, I gurantee he would still be the coach to this day assuming the boosters didnt stick their nose in it. There is talent walking the halls at Grant, they just need stability. One day hopefully Grant gets it together.

I apologize for the miscount on average of INT's for the qb this past season. I do agree that it is very difficult to run the ball without a strong offensive line but when I said strong I wasnt talking just physically strong. They need to be mentally tough as well and more than anything they need to understand what theyre indivdual job is and do it with the right technique. I am a firm believer that you need a run game to be succesful. I think Grant shows potential in a decent passing offense but needs to run game as well. And im very happy to here the qb has been working hard to get better. I believe they have a lot of senior skill players coming back consisting of a very good running back and several nice recievers?

All I can say is that the Boosters supported Coach Arvin. They passed every request that he asked for. They were all upset to hear that he was let go. The kids were buying into what he was teaching. There was a small group of parents that had a problem with the coach before Arvin. The problem is the lack of support by the administration.

I agree on the mental toughness and technique. The problem is the lack of dedication. We do have skill positions returning, but the problem is none of them have been there for lifting and spring ball.

Hopefully the new superintendent will address this issue and make changes in the administration at GCHS.

The administration is not the only one to blame here. The boosters who are made up of parents of players also have issues. I'm not going to go into details. I'm just going to state that the coach makes the decision on who plays and who does not and this alone has caused a lot of problems in the past. Some parents have a hard time accepting that. I think once we move on from this the future is bright.
05-12-2012, 12:38 PM
That all sounds pretty typical, especially when compared to a lot of other programs. Some say it's the boosters, while others say it's the admin. I believe that at then end of the day, if the right coach is in place and people buy in then success can be had anywhere. (Depending on your definition of success) Any word on how the interview process is going? Candidates? Favorites? Surely someone has info. They are out of school in like 2 weeks.

No one ever complained about how much time their kid got playing for Arvin. Now under Davis some kids boycotted practice because they thought Davis was not being fair. Of course their parents and admin supported this stupid decision, which means their parents are not the smartest folks in the world. If you have a problem then talk to the coach, admin and if you don't like the answer than quit but don't show your butt and then let the admin only suspend you for a half of a game when you should have been gone for the year. Players and more importantly PARENTS in GC need to show and TEACH responsibility. Until that happens it will always be a losing battle there in GC. Administration and most parents just don't get it because they don't care and are STUPID!!

All Male sports have been underachieved the last few years in Dry Ridge. I do not know what the young men are doing, but it is clear that they do not take Football, baseball and basketball serious enough to be sucessful.
A new coach will have to deal with this problem.
Best of luck to who ever gets the job.

It just depends on who you talk to also, there are many sides to it thus why I'm saying one thing others are saying the opposite. But yes I do agree, all the male sports have under achieved, well all the sports have male and female. Its not a athletic orient school but then again the same thing can be said for academics.
I have not heard who applied or if interviews have started.

What was the deal with last coach? Any specifics as to why he was one year and out? What kind of Coach would be a good fit there? What kind of coaches have they attracted with this most recent search? Anyone have specific insight on those questions?
05-14-2012, 09:11 AM
As far as what I have heard, the reason he was let go had nothing with his coaching abilities.
05-15-2012, 11:57 AM
What is the latest on the job search? Have they started interviews and who has applied?
05-16-2012, 08:42 AM
Any word on how the interviews have gone? I heard that there was one that was very impressive but did not get any additional information. Anyone know if they are close to a decision?

I was thinking the same thing Plantmanky. Not sure how that fit the overall conversation. However, again, anyone hearing anything? I'm sure something has to come any day now...

A period would go along way. Who is "herny county"?

If he accepts the job, many on here will be shocked by who the next coach may be.

Kevin Sipple, the guy who turned down the Cin. Moeller job a few years ago?
Hopefully, he has all of his issues squared away.

What are his issues?
