Boyd County 2012
#1
Anybody got any info? How are they looking in practice? Throw me a bone.

Haven't got a chance to see them yet. I heard that the numbers are up this year, supposed to be about 70 players out this year. Coach Brooks is also supposed to have had the players in the weight room working hard. This is all I've heard, and again I haven't got to see them yet. So this is still just rumor so far, but if this is all true then that's moving in a possitive direction. Good luck to the Ray Brooks and his Lions.

It must depressing out in the county this time of the year.

We'll find out tomorrow if it is or not when we see if they can at least hold their ground against a solid team like Belfry. Belfry obviously wont be at full throttle, but we will be able to see if the Lions are at least comming around physically and if the fundamentals are there.

I saw the scrimmage at Belfry and the Lions were very sloppy. They have alot to learn in a short time as is the case with most new coaches. I do expect them to improve greatly through the comming season. The run defense was pretty good for the most part, but the pass D was not just virtually nonexistant, it was completely nonexistant. Lots to improve on there, but that's why they do the scrimmages. I'm glad we had a quality program like Belfry to show us where our biggest weaknesses are. Coach Brooks has a few weeks before the 1st tough opponent, Morgan County not withstanding. They thumped us good last year, but I believe it a winable game. The big thing besides the pass D was how are they going to score. It should be easier to run on most of the teams they play than what it was against Belfry, but I think Ashland and Johnson Central will be just as tough to run against, and this was just a scrimmage. That being said, I'll end with saying that team size is very good up front, but not in the backfield. As for speed, as a team...not good at all, but a 2 or 3 of the smaller guys were quick on their feet but that was it. Good luck to Coach Brooks and his Lions.

Man I wish you guys the best. I love this rivalry but it's starting to resemble the Ashland ironton series before the last 3 years. Just doesn't seem like the lions have much of a shot of winning a game in this series.

Thy're still a year or two from being competive in the district and this rivalry, but alot rides on how well coach Brooks is able to get the guys on track. I'll back them all no matter what.

Give us your take on Belfry. What take did you leave with?

I really do hope so. I enjoy when area teams are co
Competitive.

My take on Belfry would be that they will be a force in the mountains, especially if they start catching the ball. The quarterback got it there, but the receivers just couldn't seem to bring it in, and I really wish my Lions had something to do with that, but they didn't. I think the Pirates have a good shot another deep playoff run, so long as they stay healthy.
