Paintsville vs W.Carter (at Fairvew)
#1
A very young Tiger team travels north to Fairview to play W Carter in a Grid o rama this Friday. What are the thoughts from both sides?

Good Luck to the Tigers! Let me know how it goes TB!

“Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls – it’s more democratic.”

I get the sarcasim TP but the Tigers have to start somewhere. Bill Mike Runyon and his staff will get these kids ready to play and win. Maybe next year there will be more kids out but as of now they have about 22 kids and the majority are freshmen and sophomores. Its a numbers game for the Tigers and right now its going to be hard on them but they will play their hearts out I hope for it is the future of this once proud program.

I heard West Carter has around 40 kids, but 26 are freshman. They start several freshman, including their Qb.

Thanks Coach, it should be interesting to watch two freshmen lead their teams. Hope its on the radio.

Hate to hear that Luke Daniels suffered a broken leg and hip! Here's hoping for a great recovery. He will be missed!

That will hurt OTH, I finally found out Monday it was him. He would have really helped the team. I hope he heals well and can recover quickly

Classy comment! Way to represent your program in a negative way. Comments like that are reinforcement that there are a lot of idiots in the world that don't think before they speak!
I'm glad I've got to spend a lot of time with guys like Coach Hart and Coach Tackett to know that the men leading the Ashland program are first class and respect other programs unlike the loser that hangs behind a fake name and takes weak jabs at programs that are trying to build something.
BMR is a winner. Joe Cherrico is one of the best coaches I've coached against. Brian and Kevin Brown are the kind of men that live by example how people would want their kids to be.
Best of luck to both teams this year! Don't let losers that haven't seen a single one of your practices drag you down.

Anybody have any score or news? Its gotta be over by now?

Classy remark. Fans like you are why I look forward to playing Ashland.

Finally got the score, Tigers lose 20-16. Crap.

Well, it's just a scrimmage and I'm sure both team's worked on a lot of stuff. The Tiger's were competitive and WC is 3A. I think it's fairly positive for the tiger's.

Good luck to the tigers and comets. Respect all.

Wasn't this game played Friday night. And still no score.

This type of game was an excellent format to gauge where the team stands at this early point in the season. These young Tigers improved as the game progressed. The passing game and defense showed some real promise. Still a lot to work on, particularly in the run game, but there were plenty enough positives to make this True Blue Fan eager to see the home opener. Go Tigers.

I didn't know they were 3A. Thanks for the info Backwoods and best to Harlan this year.

You got it Tigerblues. I like to keep up with the Tiger's. Paintsville beat us in '79,I believe it was,at Harlan in one of the best football games i've seen, for the region championship. I've tried to follow them since. I think the QB was Tony Mayes that went on to play at UK. A QB keeper won the game,in pouring rain,in the 4th quarter. Great game.

^Tony also went on to play for the Tampa Bucs.

I ran track against him in the 10th grade when he was a senior, what a great athlete he was and he didn't act like he had a big ego either. Seemed like a class act to me.

A cousin of mine new him well and we all went to his dad's (Elmo Mayes) home in Harrogate,Tn. His dad had a timber wolf for a pet. We would stand on his porch and throw raw hamburger meat to it in yard. Tony was a good guy. I wonder how he is doing now? I know his father passed away several years back. So I did get to know him but I haven't seen or ran into him in a long time. There was a kid that played ball for Bellevue about the time they closed and his name was Tony Mayes and I wondered if it was his son.
