Scott/ Covington Holy Cross Scrimage 8/10
#1
It's like kissing your sister It was a tie in both the 10 and 10 controlled section of the scrimmage and 14-14 in the game like part.
Both teams can take a lot out of this one. Holy Cross may have spent too much time on the banquet circuit instead of working hard in the offseason. Offensively not very consistent. They had a hard time blocking the three technique as well as rush off the ends. But there were bright spots with both Pouncy and Beal making some nice plays. Defensively they had a hard time with containing Scott's Qb and were weak in the run defense between the tackles (all things that should be fixable).

Scott has had a dramatic change from years past. They have a nice mix of size and athletics that should equalize too many wins. They were able to put pressure on Holy Cross defensively. Some of their drops were off and HC was able to hit those areas but that's fixable.
What impressed me with Scott was the kid’s attitude. They were hustling around the field on both sides of the ball. You could even hear some of their players giving positive encouragement to each other on the field (something you always didn't hear in Taylor Mill)
Even though the score was a tie. Scott came out of this scrimmage on a more positive note that the Indians

I agree the attitude at Scott has changed and it was very nice seeing the kids playing hard like they were and it you can tell a big difference from past teams. Should be a good year for Scott.

The scrimmage works better for both teams this year over last. Scott has a major imorovement over last years team. Last year Holy Cross left the scrimmage feeling good about themselves and didnt learn much. It took them to week 3 and 4 to be shown thier holes. This year Scotts improvement showed them holes before the season started. Thanks to Scott's improvement Holy Cross has more time to tighten up. Everyone wins when teams get better.

I do have to say Scott probably has the best facilities in all of Northern Kentucky

anytime a scrimmage is closely contested, it's a win for both teams. coaches and players can quickly recognize what they need to work on. both teams were able to test out the running and passing games with true tempo. for holy cross, this was a great way to wake the players up and recognize that this is a new season. for scott, it's a great confidence builder knowing that they were even with (i'd say out-played) a defending state champ. this was a great scrimmage for both teams and both will learn a lot more from it then they did last year or if it was one-sided.
