Ashland 42 Raceland 19
#1
final
#2
Really sloppy game. Ashland was not ready to play. Hope this serves as a Lesson that if you aren't mentally prepared you can be beat. 17 penalties is unacceptable does anyone know how many penalty yard? Better improve a lot before next week or it will be a long bus ride home.

I was wrong about when this game was over, still a game at halftime. Congrats to the Tomcats on the win.
#4
what was baker's stats?
#5
It was 21-19 at halftime.

Raceland handed this one to Ashland Blazer with 6 turnovers.

They got pressure on Elkins an he threw interceptions, they knocked the hell out of them an fumbled the football. There were no mystery fumbles. Fumbles were the result of some big hits. Raceland played tough for a half then just ran out of gas hands on hips early on in the third very tired. Ashland got some cramps as well but put it away by the end of third. Couple plays go the other way in the first half it would've been over in first half, second half raceland just didn't have the same swagger as first half. Good team though ill bet they don't lose til playoffs. Imo

Raceland did not tackle well either missed alot of chances of holding Ashland to short yardage runs and Ashland would get 4-8 yards on a carry. The Rams secondary was shaky at times needs to improve in that area also. The big thing I think Raceland needs is someone doing kickoffs you can not let a team have a short field after you score or any kickoff. Looked like Ashland only had to go 60 yards after Raceland kicked off. Also seems like Elkins is alot better passer when moving out of the pocket. With this Ashland team looks like if you spread them out you have a better chance against them.

Ashland beat a good Class A team. But therein lies the problem. A Class 4A school gains nothing by beating a Class A team- unless it is Beechwood or Mayfield. So, forget the little amount of extra money from this annual home game and play someone who will challenge you and make you better. You don't get ready for FTH and CovCath playing Raceland.

They really didn't like it when they beat you 3 years in a row.

Russell will beat both of these teams.

Has Russell realy improved that much? I know both have consistenly beaten the Red Devils the last few years. Looking at old scores from KHSAA site it hasnt been very close. Have they closed the gap and GOREDDEVILS how do these 3 stack up against Belfry and Pikeville this year?

Because they beat greenup? Fball surely your not sold on a thrashing of Greenup co Raceland is big an got some nice backs. There not bad Fball I wouldn't underestimate them, they have beat you guys pretty good last several years. BTW so has Ashland pretty convincingly. An Russell didn't exactly put Lawrence Co away in there scrimmage looked about even to me or maybe Russell a small edge.

I would be lying if I wasn't a little more worried about Russell after last night. Good news is most of the mistakes were mental mistakes that hopefully got this teams attention. However you are right Raceland was clearly more ready to play the game than Ashland they just couldn't execute a handoff. That was 2 of there fumbles. If they don't give the ball up 6 times I'm not to sure we win this game. Idk I the other two fumbles were legit hits or not they happened from a bad vantage point where I was. But I do know the two handoffs shouldn't have been dropped.

No intention to offend. I just wanted to suggest how your boys could possibly improve so that you could at least give my boys a game. It would help both of us.

No not because they thrashed Greenup. We knew that was going to happen.

They did whatever they wanted in the Lawrence County scrimmage. Not sure what you are talking about there .

The games with Ashland Blazer and Raceland were anybody's ball game last year. Neither beat Russell badly.

IMO Russell is better this year than they have been since 2007.

You are well known for making statements such as these. And your making this current statement based on the lopsided victory against an overmatched opponent.

I only saw the live scrimmage part but looked about even to me.
I don't remember the exact score but I'm thinking it was about 3 scores hardly anybody's ballgame. I know it was close for awhile.

It was 2 scores. 32-14. You made all of your two point conversions.

Actually I very rarely make bold predictions. Try holding onto the ball and then chime back in. I stand by my statement.

Belfry will beat Ashland Blazer and Russell.

Raceland would beat Pikeville.

Last night was a close game decided by turnovers and big plays. I think the Russell/Ashland game and the Russell/Raceland games will be similar.

Raceland held Baker in check except for the reverse where he was untouched for the long TD.

Quinton is coming along nicely there restricting his carries to about 10, by design trying not to overload him an bring him along as smooth as possible. He got a few defensive plays in the secondary again just let him transition into this lead role he was thrust into by the loss of Cody Watts. Once they decide to turn him loose an give him the carries Watts wouldve had (20+ a game) then will get a better idea what he really can do. They Haven't thrown to him but a few times. Once these guys gel they'll be pretty good football team. Considering all the mistakes these first 2 games I'm pretty satisfied with 93 points of offense, the D is going to have to step up giving up 40 in 2 games is to much.
#25
Yeah but the D is responsible for about 1/3 of those points you've scored.

Losing Watts was a big blow.

That's kinda my point once they get this D dialed in they will be creating turnovers getting our O on the field or scoop an scores. And get better at stoping some of the big runs we gave up to raceland. They've made some adjustments during the raceland game by moving salow to safety he is a special player an makes big time plays similar to what Whetsel did last year + the addition of the Jeremy Jackson to the defensive secondary(6'2" 205) as well as another target at receiver, will be eligible next Friday for GW game he will replace Malik Massey as the fastest kid on the team. An Baker will see more an more D as the season goes.
#27
I'm surprised Jackson is eligible.

He'll Have all required practices in this next week, an eligible friday.

Raceland showed two different teams friday night. A team that might go 6-4 and A team that might go 9-1. The game this coming week will prove a lot. The ressiliance to lose and bounce back. Or a team that wants to play half a$$. The ability is there. Alot of props goes to Ashland tho. Blame it on turnovers or whatever you want. But Ashland made a lot of mental mistakes too. Neither team played truly sound football. The good thing for raceland is they tend to hit stride in later games. Russell in particular. All three teams will thump greenup! BAD! Running clock for all three teams. Raceland has to bounce back and play a great game against a great team this week. Fairview plays such a pitiful schedule but could easily play with any of the area teams onany given night. Maybe one day they will upgrade their competition to show so.
