University of Kentucky police say three members of the football team have been charged with marijuana possession.
UK Police Chief Joe Monroe identified the players as running back Raymond Sanders, cornerback Marcus Caffey and wide receiver Bookie Cobbins. They were charged Thursday night.
The Lexington Herald-Leader says coach Joker Phillips said Monday that the players will remain with the team.
The newspaper said Sanders, of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Cobbins, of New Orleans, were suspended for Saturday's game against Western Kentucky, which the Wildcats lost 32-31 in overtime. They are eligible to play Saturday at Florida. Caffey, of Atlanta, was ruled academically ineligible before the season began.

Three UK football players are in trouble with the law after drug charges were filed against them.
Junior running back Raymond Sanders, freshman cornerback Marcus Caffey and freshman wide receiver Bookie Cobbins were all charged with possession of marijuana on September 13, according UK Police chief Joe Monroe. Monroe says police were responded after a complaint about a marijuana smell coming from Cooperstown Apartments. The three players were cited and ordered to appear in court October 9.
Possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor. During Saturday's post game press conference when asked about the suspension of two of the players, UK coach Joker Phillips said, "we hold our kids accountable."

All three should be dumped. Losing is one matter. Losing with criminals is quite another matter. Get rid of them. I feel sure the GPA of the student body would not suffer.

Why is this WOW????
Is it that it's SHOCKING to see college athletes get busted with alcohol or pot????
Yes, they should be disciplined and possibly removed from the team and the school based on the athletic departments guidelines, but it's far from being a story!!!!

I'm surprised the police caught them. You wouldn't expect to find a football player around UK's campus.

I agree with SD and Toussaints, I'm not shocked at all with this. It happens every year. Some get caught, some don't. These players just happen to get caught

I heard that they, readily, admitted to marijuana usage but, vehemently, denied being UK football players.

Sanders gets caught with marijuana and sits out one game. He will serve as the backup this week. One game suspension for marijuana? Really? Am I crazy for thinking the punishment should be a little more severe from a football standpoint?
