Pulp Fiction Wrote:I was impressed with Ironton's Million Dollar Band... their majorettes, cheerleaders and dance squad. They had a great fan base to travel with them. But their fans are very rude/disrespectful.

They're Buckeyes. And you were expecting what? Besides they are from the Ashland area too. Gosh, that's a lot to over come.

I only counted 30 players dressed for Ironton ? Is this a normal number for the Tigers ?

lol.....And you didn't expect that stuff? Heck it's a tradition up there. I would say it had more to do with Ironton laying the wood on them.Confusednicker:

FBALL Wrote:I think he's a sprinter. I said he wasn't as physical as Jude. JC must have done a great job of not letting him get into open space.

Congratulations Golden Eagles.

Yep. He's a wide receiver.

Not much love for JC on sports overtime... Kind of disappointing... Oh well anyone that was there knew where the best game in the mountains was tonight.. Way to go Eagles now time to claim another district title!
#37
Bob Seger Wrote:Looked to me like he wanted no part of contact. If FBALL, tomcat 72000000, and NotSoBADCAT think that Lewis is a running back, they need to see Canady from Knox. It's not even close.

By accounts he was hurt early on in the game . Do not know maybe tiger bait can feel us in. Sometimes the great ones get shut down congrats to your defense on doing so. Glad you guys proved me wrong.

Typically, when it's a mountain team playing a non-mountain team, it doesn't make much of an impression on them. You'd get more credit for beating Bell County on there than you would Highlands. Just the way of things. I'm not sure they realize there what a significant win this is, simply because most of the mountains outside the Ashland area has no clue what an Ironton is or what you'd do with one if you had one. Derek reads the message board, so I'm sure he's got an idea, but if you want people to watch your show, you show your target audience what they want. And more people in the audience are interested in a graphic breakdown of Hazard-Prestonsburg or Breathitt-Magoffin than some team on the fringe of the mountains playing a team up in Ohio.

Make no mistake 720000000 he was not limping while running. He just doesn't like contact.

Glad your here to take up for them... Fact of the matter is true football people would much rather have watched our game than any you just mentioned. Tonight was like an old fashion title fight. Tough and physical. Awesome atmosphere... Felt like the playoffs. Once again so proud of our Eagle team!

Seeing that Derek is really a transplant ino this area to begin with, I am assuming that he probably doesn't know anything about Ironton or it's powerhouse tradition. He really does a good job, so I think he probably deserves just a little bit of slack on that.

Sound like the eagles were very impressive. Congrats.

Not saying we don't deserve more credit. We certainly do. We played a fantastic game against a tough team and beat them at their own game.

However, WYMT can only do so much. I just hate to say anything bad about Sports OT because they are the only coverage we have in the mountains, and they do their best with a huge area to cover and not much time to do it. Those guys work hard, and they probably don't get appreciated (or paid) enough for the work they do. That was my only point. And any time they have to choose what games to feature, they'll always take the one with two mountain teams playing each other, just because you get more fans watching that way, and at the end of the day, they have to have viewers to keep their sponsors. Business is business.

I predicted JC by 14. Was close!

First of all congrats JC you have a heck of a football team.. And i agree with above posters we (ironton) got out played out ran out physicaled tonight bottom line bottom line period...And for those of you bashing lewis tonight wasnt his night he got hurt in first half and it is to bad the JC fans didnt get to see him at full strength for the full game... And for you ashland fans still whinning about the referees you got beat face it deal with it.. You havent beat Ironton 5 times in the last 30 years and you wont beat JC this year.. Thanks to all the JC fans that I got to know this evening good luck to you and you have a heck of a football team and just remeber ITS JUST ASHLAND...

Hey 64cat we beat you get over it shouldnt be hard we have beat the tom kittens for 40 years...watch the film when they threw a flag you were holding, blocking in the back,chopblock..etc... I guess the refs are at fault that no one from ashland could stop 22..Everyone hates Ironton till we play you all then everyone from ky roots for us..If you want to blams somebody for your lose blame your head coach for not running the ball.. But maybe your are to blind to see that cause you have hung out with TINY dick martin and DIRK and the BOYS to much at the sporting goods store lmao.. Sorry Johnson Central for posting this on your thread when they should be patting you on the back for a deserved hard fought win.. Just tired of the bandwagging cry babby crap from the the losers from across the river..Eagles if you play like you did tonight you will kill the tomkittens. But they will blame the refs, weather, stars, sun, moon, whatever else just so they dont have to accept getting beat..There 2-20 something and 0 against us and still dont give us no respect.. go figure the refs have cheated them for 30 yrs lol

Forgot to say good luck JC the rest of the year love that smashmouth football!!!!!!! Awesome atmosphere and fans tonight....

Coach Matney done a excellent job tonight, his game plan was perfect plus he had his team motivated to play hard and smart. The play calling was excellent! The deep pass in the 2nd half was a perfect play call and a picture of beauty. He refused to kick the ball to the speedy RB, which is what smart coachs do. His D did a excellent job of forcing the RB to run east and west, they used the sidelines to there advantage, very few times was the Speedy RB able to get outside into space. Great effort by the Eagles and a EXCELLENT coaching job by Jim Matney!

IMO Ironton is a Pro-Style team, there QB is solid tough kid that made some great plays. They also have a highly skilled WR/TE that has great hands. #45 was a good RB too. Ironton used a 6 man front on D for most of the night, which IMO played to JC strenght. No disrepect to the Ironton fans, but if they hope to improve they are going to have improve team toughness. Too many times tonight I saw Ironton players limping off the field hurting and showing weakness to later come back in the game. I suspect that Ironton has a very young team and when the mature they will be a force.

Actually Ironton has 38 kids 20 seniors. Next year is the young inexperienced tiggers

I'm not a bit surprised that the Eagles won this game, just that the score was as high as it was. I know my Lions were barely a warm-up squad for JC last week, but it was clear they didn't let us have both barrells. Our Tomcat neighbors better look at what they are comming into. And I'm also going to say that JC needs to be carefull not to overlook the Tomcats. Congrats on the win and enjoy it for what it is, a win I really don't think another mountain team could have gotten. I do believe you're the best team in eastern KY. Ashland will now have to come to Paintsville to prove otherwise.
#53
Glad to see a Ky team beat Ironton, would have been even better if it was local team Russell or Ashland

Just ask their resident whiney excuse making expert that they call NotSoBADCAT. He blames it all on that evil music that gets played when they come to JC and get thumped. .....lol

wow, what an atmosphere there at johnson central. jc never really had a large crowd. but between them speakers and that lil band they sure were a lively bunch. ironton just could not stop their run.and get them off the field. johnson central is huge. they have the biggest line i've seen in a long time, and just play smasmouth football. i figured this to be a closer game. but jchs can flat out ball. we simply must tackle better, and utilize more blitzes to get running teams off the field.and they would not kick to lewis all night, they just kicked like 10 yard kickoffs, and they kept the fighting tigers bottled up laterally as well. we broke some big runs, and had a great success passing the ball, but we never really had an answer for the team that just outplayed us. we got way behind the first half. and frankly ole bait started getting that tingling feeling when we went back up 31-30. but their running game , and our inability to get them off the field, was just too much. my hats off to both programs, just two heavy weights bangin it out.

ironton gets thrown from the frying pan into the fire. after a very physical game with johnson central, and many key injuries. columbus bishop hartley comes to town friday. i hope we're quick healers. my hats off to both programs for stepping up and scheduling each other.----------and anybody that wants to make jokes about ky. high school football. add johnson cental to your schedule, those jokes would end in a heartbeat. they are extremely physical and huge, and will be a force come playoff time in AAAA.it just wasn't the fighting tiger's night.but that is what made fighting tiger football what it is today, playing these heavyweights

Maybe you can. But the films of the Ironton-Ashland game don't lie.

You didn't beat me ! Like I stated in those threads, I went to the game and thought most of the ref talk was overboard. Not until I saw the replay on TV and some of the highlights in this pregame spread did I notice a lot of questionable calls. And don't worry,I'm not crying at all about that game.I predicted Johnson Central to win and this score doesn't surprise me in the least, Coach Matney has a well coached physical team every year but I thought Ironton was way over hyped by all of the Ashland posters. Now Ironton is a good team but not as good as some made them out to be. And I agree your win was just against Ashland ! So you can't celebrate tonight but you can still celebrate over that win.

Congrats to JC and Coach Matney.

i've read through these posts , and i didn't get in till 1am, as i now live in waverly, ohio on lake white. we have 38 players , but quite a few injured prior to the game and more during the game. our dline especially the interior is riddled with injuries. i think there may have been like 3/4 penalties , the whole game. they let them slug it out. there are no jokes like'it's just ashland' from this poster, never has been. i seen these 2 play. johnson central and ashland. i think the tomcats are in for a long , long night. my props to johnson central they just whooped us. very excellent facility, pleasant fans. hope we get to do it again, ----------hopefully after all those neanderthal lineman graduate.that actually was a very small crowd by ironton standards, we travel way better than that. i think the rain kept many home. and hey, ya'll need to put some restrooms on the visitor's side for pete's sake. great game to watch, good luck to the golden eagles, the rest of the season.bait.

Films don't lie. Ashland Blazer Let Lewis get into the open field and that is what got them beat. Not the officials. That is a weak excuse.

Johnson Central deserves the credit for bottling him up.
