Johnson Central 22 Ashland 21(OT)

tomcatfan722000 Wrote:I do not understand why Ashland kicked in ot. Everyone in the stadium knew if matney score he was going for 2 and with that style of offense it is almost impossible to stop 3 yards. But if they went for 2 and got it the game goes on. If not they still lose the game. So why kick it? Second man did the loss of baker hurt us. With Salow and watts already out the. Baker goes down so Massey has to go to RB. He had a nice game but it essentially meant we were without our two 2 wr's and top 2 running backs.

Now onto other things what a great game by both teams and what a gutsy run by dillon on the 2 point. He was initially stopped short just wanted it more. This loss stings and I feel for those kids in those Maroon helmets who played there hearts out. Like I said this Ashland defense would be the best JC had seen all year and holding them to 14 points in regulation and a season low in total point even in overtime says that as well. Great job tomcats great job eagles on a very well played game. Now best of Luck to both in the playoffs

Dillon had the long touchdown run and had a great game, but Jordan Young had the two point conversion.

Didn't coach Hart win a National Championship at the college level?

Yeah I'm pretty sure he did. Of course roy Kidd was the head coach at EKU. Hart was the offensive coordinator. But was there for a while.

I would have to guess no Pulp..He coached at eastern and i cant remeber them wining one lately...

Aww my mistake. Still awesome effort on that young mans part to get in the endzone

Horrible way to lose a game, but great way to win one.

Congrats JC.

So glad I DVR'ed this.... Can't wait to get the WSIP broadcast of this game.

I bet Spike and Danny were going insane!

No problem. There is no way you say anything negetive about either team.

I've not read this whole thread and rarely post on here, but I just had to chime in and say that I think the runners knee was down before the ball crossed the goal line at the end of the game. The game should have went to Ashland.

Favorite song played...... The Undertaker's theme from the WWF/WWE on 3rd/4th downs.

Once the crowd realized what was playing, they went nuts!

No way..... his knee was NOT down before the ball crossed the goal line, I watched it on DVR about 10 times as soon as I got home. But like I said earlier, I had one of the best seats in the house.

WYMT didn't have their Instant Replay hood set up..... :please:

Ok I'll take your word for it... That was from my vantage point... Thanks for clearin that up...
#45
Didn't look down to me either. But even if it was Ashland put themselves at the mercy of the officials judgement when they didn't bring him down after they wrapped him up. What can you do?

I can honestly say this was one of the best officiated games i have seen and my team lost. Yes there was a slight push off on the 2nd down play for JC by the receiver in ot but it was ticky tacky at best good no call IMO. I also saw a missed late hate against the eagles. I also saw some false starts misse from Ashland and I'm sure both teams got away with holding. Point is they let the kids play. They didn't make it about themselves and they called the penalties they had to without throwing a 50/50 flag that might decide the game. Great job by this crew best officiating I have seen in a Ashland/JC game.

I had a perfect angle from the sideline to see the 2-point run he kind of twisted away from the Ashland tackler then made a great dive to get the ball into the endzone! What a great run! #28 also made some great one on one tackles to stop big gains. I really loved how the Eagles played when the pressure was on!

I was on the sideline right on the goal line and the 2-point play was the 110% right call! The ball landed across the goal line before #28's knee was even close to being down! IT WAS THE RIGHT CALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a neutral fan, this was a great game. Congrats to Johnson Central and the first game I have watched them play this year. Impressed with the whole crew. I'm not commenting on the knee deal. Best in the playoffs Eagles

First of all congrats to both teams on a great game. Congratulations to the eagles on a district title, enjoy it. Good luck against belfry and in the playoffs. Would be nice to play again this year for higher stakes.
Second why would you try to downplay one of the best high school games people have seen in a long time by saying its just Ashland? It was just Ashland that just took Johnson central to the limit and came one play short of winning. If its just Ashland then what are you saying about Johnson central since they didn't completely dominate just Ashland? So it's not just Ashland and its not just Johnson central. This was a great game between two very good teams. So don't try to take away from the efforts that the young men from both teams put fourth on the field tonight.
Good job cats, heal up and get ready for region. Good job eagles, good luck

Hardknocks is a Ironton fan. He is just upset we showed better against JC than they did. Funny how Ironton says its just Ashland but when they don't have there refs they don't win. But his comments don't reflect the JC fanbase they are just Ironton arrogance and trolling.

I mean, we got our tinfoil hat crowd too, but I don't think you'll hear anybody from JC take anything away from that game or the effort on either side tonight. This series since Matney took over at JC has produced three of the most classic HS football games I can remember (the halfback pass in the playoffs in 2006, the Hail Mary to J.K. Hall in the corner of the endzone a few years ago, and tonight), and I don't think you'll find anybody in Johnson County who doesn't know this game will annually be for the district title and circle it on the calendar. Every year it's going to be for all the marbles and both teams bring all they got. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Unfortunately the JC fans will probably get introduced to Maulmiester officiating fan club next year.
I guess Ironton would actually have to answer to the ohsaa if they used that crew against in state teams.

Then I remember no half back pass.
