Bobcats didn't quit down by 20 in the 4th...but there is no better way for the Black bears to open their new stadium. A very big "Congrats" to HCHS.
#4
Bell County fans now have to say.

Not lost to a mountain team for 10 minutes.
#5
Congrats to HC. Very nice win.

So unfortunate that KC did not get the chance to play Bell this year.

Isn't Knox Central a mountain team?Confusedhh:

All kidding aside, HC surprised the heck out of me tonight, much better of a team than I thought they were. I feel like turnovers hurt Bell and hurt them bad. I know HC had a few to, but it's easier to manage them playing ahead than trying to come back. Proud of Bell County tonight for continuing to fight until the final whistle, no matter the score, nearly completed the come back. Thought without a doubt Jonathon Polly was the best player on the field tonight.

I think Harlan County started savoring the win a little early but they saved it.

Congratulations, Black Bears! A great way to break in the new stadium.

and for the record....
I would feed Carson Whitehead the ball as often as possible...
kid is a beast.

Probably because coming into last year after Mills left Knox with a bad taste in their mouth, the schools decided it best to not play, Bell agreed to a contract with Lexington Catholic and joined into the iHigh bowl, leaving no room for Knox. That'd be my best guess. Although I do hear the two are resuming play next year Wink

^So that would make the the Mountains part of the Panther Nation....and they be King
#12
Congrats to the Black Bears on a very well played game.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I could die a happy woman tonight. What a game; what a night; what a phenomenal conclusion!!!!

Senior night (shout out to Aaron Caldwell #43; love you). Lots of emotion there. Add the memorial for Joe Bill..wow; then the game. I can't even describe it. But I only know that I LOVE MY BLACK BEARS!!!!!

Sometimes the emotion will bite you in the butt; tonight however, the atmosphere was electric with emotions from both ends of the spectrum!!! "Quit" doesn't appear in the Bell County dictionary!! Wow; I can't say enough about how hard they played and the heart the put into each and every play. Some of their fans cut out early, and missed some damn good football!!!! Polly was phenomenal! Congratulations Bell, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart; wish you guys good luck in the play offs.

I am so proud of the Bears!! What a way to christen the Coal Miner Memorial Stadium!!!!!!

Bring on Lincoln County; I'm ready!!!!!

Go Black Bears!!!!!!

NO MORE KING OF THE MOUNTAINS.

Was only a matter of time after Dudley left before the mediocre began to set in. Here it begins. Congrats BEARS!
#15
Congrats HC.
#16
Good win for HC, congrats!

I really thought Bell County would be better this year than last, but I have been wrong. Bell had a bunch of seniors this year. I knew Bell was suppose to be down in the future. And I guess you are right, Knox Cent is now King of the mountains. I would put them a head of Belfry this year. Bell has been in a lot of close games this year. I guess it was just a matter of time. The worse thing is Bell has Louisville Central to look forward to in the playoffs. I could see Harlan county and Knox Cent being the teams to beat in this area in the future.

Trust me, "the schools" did not agree to not have the game. We wanted the game. We needed the money it would have generated both years. No less than 5,000 fans watched both games when we played last. Would have been the same over the last two years (more probably) considering the great teams both have had.

Matters not at this point. What is done is done. We look forward to resuming the game. HC, BC, and KC are all great programs that will continue to set compete against each other for the right to be considered the best team in the area. I do think the days of Bell being the assumed winner of those games is over. Tonight proved that.

I still can't believe the Black Bears scored 40 on Bell. Good Game got nervous at the end!!!

I don't think one loss forebodes mediocricy. Regardless, this is Harlan County's fan's night and the beginning of an era. A glorious new stadium and a victory over a bitter rival. What could be better!

Congrat's Harlan County Bears, Harlan County fans, and Coach Larkey!
#21
congrats to the black bears on a hard fought win, this loss will really help us out going into the playoffs.
#22
I feel bad for Bell County in the play offs. It just doesn't seem fair Bell has to play Louisville Central third round.
#23
Congrats to Da Bears! I thought it was a great game and great atmosphere! I agree with a previous post, bell don't quit! Heck of a team! Good luck to both teams in the playoffs! What a great stadium! I got chills several times tonight. However I disagree with another poster. Polly is a great player no doubt, but Jake Middleton is just as good if not better! Offensively
And defensively. Both teams played there hearts out!

Mediocrity? I don't think so. Bell is in good hands, look what Mills did with Knox Central, Laughing stock to very possibly a top 2-3 team in 4A his last few years. There's tons of young talent on the team. Peyton Collett is gonna be one heck of a QB. 3 more years for him. Dillion Cox, Austin Caldwell, both tremendously talented with 2 years left. Very good freshman class that will only get better came in this year. Don't jump the gun, it was one game, a hell of a game that was hard fought between two tough teams. Give HC all the credit in the world in this one, I think they rode the momentum and emotion in, slapped Bell early, and Bell just couldn't fully recover in time. Mediocrity I don't believe is anywhere on the near horizon for either team.

The king of the mountains has fallen...there is a new KING in town tonight.

HARLAN COUNTY BLACK BEARS....KING OF THE MOUNTAINS!!!!!

It was such an emotional night with senior night and the loss of our dear Joe Bill but it could not have ended any better. A special shout out to my senior #43 and my lineman #78....Great Job to all of the BLACK BEARS!!!! Love you all.....

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES...WOOHOO!!!

until next yr when Belfry rolls into town and gets the win...
#27
I think HC and Knox will be the best teams in the area in the future. I do think Bell will stay competitive too. Probably will never dominate this area again, but will be competitive.
#28
Congratulations to the Harlan County Black Bears on your big win tonight. I don't think we had to punt the football tonight. After taking a 20 point lead with a little over seven minutes left in the game, I think we took our foot off the gas pedal. Don't get me wrong, Bell has a nice team, but the HC Bears dominated Bell Co. for much of the night. A shoutout to our seniors,,, great job guys!! :worthy:
#29
This was a great way to open your new stadium with a big win over your biggest rival. But Imo Harlan Co and Knox Central are still a step behind but the step is getting smaller everyday. When these two schools start winning more than they lose to Bell we can start talking about a new KING OF THE MOUNTAINS. One lost does not dethrone the king but it give the rest of us hope. Good Luck to both teams in the playoffs,

One of the reason coach Mills left Knox Central was to get away from Highlands. Would you rather play Louisville Central or Highlands I believe 99% of the time you would want to play Central.
