The real season does begin. People were giving WC and RC too much hype. RC will come into playoffs with big record and have an early exit. Good win BC just like I expected.

Easy to talk about expectations after game is over, what was your prediction prior to game? And would you care to go ahead and predict a score between Boyle and RC. (assuming RC makes it that far) :eyeroll:

If you have seen my posts you know I have said many times that WC is an average team at best, that RC played very weak schedule and is over rated. I also said BC would beat WC fairly easily. If RC meets BC in playoffs, I take BC to win by 21.

Great game Rebels !!! Good luck Whitley on your playoff run. Really liked the layout of the Whitley campus. Nice field and facilities. Was a little shocked that the home crowd wasn't a little bigger given it was Sr. night and that the team has had good success this year. Again good luck in the playoffs.
Also as a side note neither team rested any starters. I KNEW coach French wouldn't but you guys almost had me convinced that Whitley would.

First,I am not a Boyle fan. But they will only give up 21 max to RC, they are no Adair Co! And they just might put up 50 on RC.

congrats Rebs on a nice win great football atmosphere, nice campus.my prediction was 45 to 14 ,if Boyle hadn't taken a knee at the 1 it would have been 45 to 7.maybe now you guys understand why i say Boyle has improved a great deal since mid season.

Maybe you should ask a few questions before jumping in....
Our starting QB WAS OUT.
We had a Freshmen in at QB and RB. Not to mention we lost a starting Senior defensive back and leader of this team to a broken arm this week, and he is done for the year.
Thats why the offense didnt really click. A Frosh QB who hasnt played would hurt any offense, but in time he will be a good one.
Whitley, as expected, didnt play the pass worth a dang. Often times Boyle had receivers down the field wide open, were just to young in the defensive secondary, and Boyles QB picked us a part at times, and he's also pretty mobile for his size.
Boyle played a good solid game.
Heading into the playoffs, and after seeing both teams, I still believe Russell County has a very good chance to win these games.
IMO, Russell and Boyle are about dead even. Its not evident that either team is better to me, but ill still give RC the slight edge.
I would be able to give you a much better prediction, but we just didnt have the man power tonight with guys out.
The should be a very fun region to watch with Lex Cath, Boyle, Russell County, and Knox.
Good luck Boyle in the playoffs. As always, a class act.

IMO, Boyles QB is a little underrated, i didnt see him making the same mistakes so many accuse him of.
Im glad to know this series will continue.
Maybe once all these underclassmen we have get older, it will be a great game.

From the news journal...
With their place in the playoffs secured, the Whitley County Colonels (6-4) had the opportunity to make a statement against perennial football powerhouse Boyle County (6-4)
While the Colonels, who were playing at less than full strength due to multiple injuries including the one suffer by quarterback Austin Ysidro, showed flashes of the running game that has led to their success, they could not answer the Rebels, who built and early 14-0 lead en route to the 38-7 victory.
Boyle County took the opening drive 65 yards on seven plays to go up 7-0.
On their first possession, quarterback Luke Woods turned to his primary weapons, running backs Boston Bryant and Zac Mills. Facing second-down-and-9 at the Colonels' 23-yardline, Mills busted off another solid run for an apparent first down. However, in what would become a theme on the night, a holding penalty turned the big gain into a long yardage situation for Whitley County, who was forced to punt two plays later.
The Colonels appeared to have stopped the Rebels' on their next series. However, Waddle found wide receiver Lloyd Hall on fourth down to keep the drive going at the Whitley County 9-yard-line. Two plays later, Waddle found tight end Blake Mason for the five-yard touchdown reception and the 14-0 lead.
Whitley County took the ball on its 20-yardline with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter. Bryant inside and Mills outside steadily moved the ball down led the Colonels on the 80 yard march. Bryant bulled his way for the final three yards and the touchdown to cut the Boyle County lead to 14-7 with eight minutes remaining in the half.
Boyle County quickly answered, needing just five plays and less than three minutes to cover the 66 yards for the score and the 21-7 lead.
After another Whitley County punt, Boyle County appeared to be marching for another touchdown. However, the Colonels' defense and several uncharacteristic Boyle County penalties, forced the Rebels to settle for a 41-yard field goal with one second remaining in the half. Boyle County went into the locker room with the 24-7 lead.
Whitley County received the ball to begin the second half. Coach Jim Black turned to Bryant who bulled for 38 yards on five straight carries to get the Colonels to the Boyle County 36-yardline. Whitley County moved the ball five more yards in the next three plays to face fourth-down-and-two at the Boyle County 31-yardline. With the Rebels looking for Bryant or Mills, Black went to running back Tilmon Jackson. However, Jackson was hauled down for a six-yard loss to end the drive.
Boyle County scored on the ensuing drive to stretch the lead to 31-7 and added another late touchdown in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 38-7.
Whitley County will be back at home Friday night for a first-round playoff matchup against North Laurel High School. The Jaguars finished up their season last week with a 35-14 victory over Lincoln County to run their record to 6-4.

I have seen your posts. You talk a lot after games but rarely make predictions with actual scores. Thanks for at least giving a 21 pt. margin. So if Boyle wins by less then 21 then Russell will be a better team than you thought?

Yes, sstack, we are over rated. Our schedule is so weak that we don't have those quality wins that Boyle Co does. Those wins over Dixie Heights, Taylor Co, Marion Co, & Mercer Co must certainly say that Boyle Co has finally arrived in 2012. With wins over that kind of quality opponents I'm surprised HHS isn't just saying the title will be going back to Title Town.
Regardless of what you might think, if both teams take care of business week 1, this will be a very good football game. Boyle might hold the Lakers to 21 & may score 50, but I don't expect both to happen in the same game...so let's just play it and we'll see what the over rated Lakers can do.

congrats to Boyle

Laker20 you said after you watched the Boyle Mercer game that you would give Whitley the edge over Boyle, either you don't know how to judge football or you grossly underestimated Boyle,or maybe the teams from Boyles district are much better than the teams from Russell countys district.either way it seems you misjuged Boyle by around 40 points.maybe this will give you something to think about if Bolye comes calling in a couple weeks.

You can say all you want but you know Boyle has played much much harder schedule and it helps come playoff time. You mentioned Dixie, yes the are not a great team but would give Whitley a good game and that was RC toughest game. I understand whyRC players and fans are excited and think they are ready to make some noise in the playoffs. They beat the teams on their schedule,go unbeaten and feel confident. But they have not played at the speed,or against top O and D like they will see against Highlands CovCath LexCath and even Bolye JC Anderson. It is great for the RC kids to have a season like they did but the playoffs will be a different animal for them given that the are on the East side of the bracket.
Boyle and RC should have easy wins in round 1 and looking forward to round 2 match up.

I actually said that if Whitley Co could handle the play action then this would be a pretty even game. I obviously had no idea that they (Whitley) would not only be without their starting QB and worse, be playing a Freshmen in his first Varsity start at that position......makes a bit of difference. With all that, you won by 31.....we went to Whitley and put 49 on the board and beat them by 29 when they were full strength.
I find it funny how some of the BGR Rebel fans were down on the program, the players, the coaches, the play calling, etc when they were getting beat down by the quality teams (and Danville) on their schedule. But now that they have accumulated wins over a few below average teams they are all of sudden in the hunt for the Championship, with only HHS in the way.....even lowly LexCath doesn't stand a chance in the LOOMING rematch. The fact of the matter is that Boyle has one decent win over a much improved Mercer Co. No wins over quality opponents. I personally don't see much to hang a hat on, but you go ahead and hang yours and hopefully in two weeks you will be blaming the coaches, players, and play calling again.
I guess it's a good thing this game is at Russell Co., because obviously the Lakers aren't worthy of playing at Boyle Co.

Actually, Whitley wasn't our toughest game. I believe we were up 28-7 at the half with Nick Britt having to come out every couple of plays because allergy problems was making it difficult for him to catch his breath. In the 3rd Whitley stepped up and we slacked off and let them close the gap, but we took control back and dominated again down the stretch.
I'm sure Russell County would have loved to have a tougher schedule, but it's hard to get the big programs because given our recent history they have nothing to gain. All we can do is hope to reach these teams in the playoffs. The schedule may come back to haunt us because we haven't had to play a full game. We've started most games good and either slacked in the middle or played the 2nd & 3rd strings late. When we are clicking on all cylinders we can play with ANY team in the state. Unfortunately, we haven't put together a complete "cylinder clicking" game. Our game against Knox Central was our closest, but we missed a couple of FGs and eased up a bit on defense allowing the Panthers to regain a bit of momentum.
Trust me, the only thing we would change in our potential playoff schedule would be to face Mercer this week. Potentially facing Boyle, LexCath, HHS, and preferably Lone Oak would make a title run (no matter how unlikely) that much more meaningful. Nonetheless, our opportunity to face that level of competition begins next week, and we have to focus on Marion first.
I will say that I would think that all of the teams in the Region feel that RC is probably their most difficult matchup, and I while I don't think HHS will be overly concerned with who comes out of this region, I'd bet they would rather play Boyle again or LexCath.

I do not know if you are a fan or kid on the team, but wonder if you have ever seen a game in person of the likes of Trinity,Highlands,BG, St X ? For you to say RC could play with Trinity this year is laughable!
And I can say that Highlands would much rather meet RC than Lex Cath or Boyle for 2 reasons. One is those two teams are proven tough outs in the playoffs and two Highlands likes nothing better than a team to come in unbeaten and to be able to send them home with a L. It is a lot of fun the week prior to playing an unbeaten, easy to get up for the game.

To be completely honest, in an option offense, the QB is by far the most important player on the field, and seeing as to how we didnt have ours, it really makes this game look misleading IMO.
I think our frosh actually done alright for his first start. Its the pass defense that hurt us.
