Nothing, I mean NOTHING, surprising about this game! Tigers good, but excellent example of good small school, losing to good bigger school! Again, no surprise at all!
#7
Well I expected NCC to win in a close one. I did not expect it to be like this though. I understand Nusbaum went out for some time though. That would explain why it was larger. I think they will rebound though, that is as long as he is there.

Friday’s regular season finale between Newport Central Catholic and Beechwood may not have had any postseason implications, but as the long-time rivals clashed at Newport Stadium, it was hard to tell any different.

Ranked seventh and eighth respectively in the Kentucky Enquirer area coaches’ poll, the Thoroughbreds and Tigers battled from the opening whistle Friday, trading first half shots before NewCath eventually pulled away with a 34-14 senior night victory.

“If you are a champion, and you are a winner, then you’re just going to love the fact that you can go out there and compete on Friday nights,” NewCath coach Eddie Eviston said prior to game day. “It shouldn’t matter what the situation is.”

Friday’s situation—a rain-soaked bout between two of Northern Kentucky’s perennial powerhouses—certainly brought out the best in the Thoroughbreds.

While the visiting Tigers managed to strike first, taking an early lead on a 9-yard scamper from senior quarterback Max Nussbaum, NewCath wasted little time firing back, tying the game on their next possession when senior quarterback Josh Cain plowed in for a 1-yard score.

Moments later, senior tailback Dylan Hayes sprung for a 26-yard touchdown to give NewCath a 14-7 lead and spark what would prove to be a pivitol surge from the Thoroughbred offense.

With momentum on their side, the Thoroughbreds fired out of the gates in the second half, tacking on three consecutive scores to put the contest well out of reach.

While Beechwood managed to move the ball productively for the majority of the night, the Thoroughbreds’ defense stood strong, cutting each of the Tigers’ second half drives short, before allowing sophomore running back Joe Studer to find the end zone on the game’s final drive.

“Our guys just went after it tonight,” Eviston said of his defense’s effort. “We may have bent a little bit, but we never broke.”

Hayes led NewCath’s offensive attack, rushing for 170 yards and three touchdowns, in a performance Eviston credited to the entire unit.

“It was a good game for all of us,” he said. “We faced a tough defense, and some very good linebackers, but Dylan ran hard and the offensive line did a great job of making those holes up front for him.”

Nussbaum led the Tigers’ charge, tallying his 15th rushing touchdown in a 147-yard performance.

With the regular season now behind them, both the Thoroughbreds and Tigers will gear up for the start of the 2012 playoffs. Beechwood (6-4) will host Eminence in a class 1A showdown Friday night, while Newport Central Catholic (6-4) will return to Newport Stadium Friday to take on Gallatin County.

I think you miss-understood about Nuss, he didn't miss any

Thats good. He's a senior and it would be rough for him to miss time now. He is one heck of a hard nosed player. We have alot of respect for him, he has earned it.
#11
Congrats NCC. I made the right call on this one for my pick.
#12
only surprise in the game: brady thacker TD lol
#13
congrats to NCC
#14
Great birthday present for Brady....he's a heck of a player!!!!
#15
I for one, AM suprised by this score. Gives me a better perspective on how good Beechwood is now. They are probably the 3rd or 4th best team in class A right now. Can't put them behind Fairview or Raceland just yet.
#16
This was truly the Mediocrity Bowl.
#17
Congrats NCC, playing decent ball at the right time.
#18
Wideleft, Beechwood & Ncc will never, ever be mediocrity bowl. What looks like that for them would be light years ahead of most teams in their perspective classes. Unless you play them, you would not know that.:please:

Haters gonna hate!!!!!!

Simon Kenton and Holmes beat them. Those are teams getting running clocked in their other games. The only people who think Ncc and becechwood are decent are Ncc and beechwood.
#21
^ Wrong, there are a lot of us out here that are not NCC and BW that think they the rope you smoked was laced with mushrooms and glue, they are not as bad as you would like for them to be.
#22
Wrong again, I am not from either one of those places. I am from Mayfield and I know they are both great programs and they have a formula. They are 1a and 2a, they are supposed to get beat by 5a schools. Normally they don't but, their size does sometimes catch up with them in those games. Those games are scheduled so they can get ready by facing tougher competetion, so shouldn't they loose sometimes. You are being very negative about this situation. Trust me when I say they will both make good runs in their perspective classes in the playoffs and that is what really counts.
#23
Ncc has zero chance of losing their first 3 playoff games. The competition is abysmal. More a testament of how weak 2A football is. 1A is just as bad.
#24
^ Yes, I say the EXACT same thing about 4A in the first 3 rounds!
