Harlan County Bears 41; Madison Southern 24
#1
Final from Coal Miner's Stadium.

Congratulations Black Bears!!!!!
#2
Yahoo! Congratulations Bears (oops) Black Bears!
#3
Game was 28-24 5min in 4th. MS just ran out of time. Heck of a game by both teams. Don't think Harlan nation expected MS to be in it that late. Harris kid is the deal!
#4
Harris has got two more years to make the Bears miserable.
#5
way to go Black Bears great game
#6
Madison Southern has a great team, and Harris is one of the best players I've seen this season. Congratulations to the Eagles on their season, and the tremendous effort given in tonight's game.

No, the final score does NOT indicate the kind of game it was. Both teams were fighting tooth and nail the entire time. But the Black Bears prevailed and will go on to play the Maroons next week. I sure hope the two players from MS that had to leave the game are okay...looked like knee injuries for both of them.

Soooo proud of the Black Bears; they NEVER gave up!!!

Great job!!!!!!
#7
Congrats to the Black Bears! Anyone know Harris' final stats?
#8
Congratulations, Black Bears!! Beat Pulaski County next week!

In my opinion Harris is the best sophmore we've ever faced. He has a great football career ahead of him. Madison Southern gave us a scare, especially when Harris had the ball, but they had other backs that were pretty good too. I hope the player who was injured is ok. I hate to see any player get injured!! Best of luck to him.

i was pretty close on the final score bear_paw! i took harlan 35-21 but instead it was 24-41 and alot closer then score indicates.
#10
Way to go bears. D steped up in the 4th. Held southern to no 1st downs!
#11
Madison Southern was a very good team. Well coached. The Black Bears started off sluggish, but turned it up. Harris is the real deal. He had a big reception and a few nice runs(135 yards rushing on 17 carries I think), but in general the Black Bears turned up the Defense and shut it down especially in the 4th Qtr. Harris will be a tough one to contend with for the next two years. The Black Bears had a couple TD's called back with holding calls. On to the Regional Championship!!!GO BLACK BEARS!!!!LET'S GET SOME MAROONS!!!!!!

I didn't think Madison Southern ran Harris nearly as much as they should have. Not sure if he is still feeling the effects of his injury, but MS seemed to really limit his carries. I thought he could have made much bigger difference if he would have had more touched. Of course, as a Black Bear fan, I'm glad he didn't...
#13
congrats HC

That's happened several games this season. I felt like he could have done more damage if he was given the ball more, but didn't get it. For example, against Southwestern, he didn't touch the ball the entire 2nd qtr.

I told you HC fans this game would be close.
Had that feeling all year.
#16
Harris was wearing a bulky rib protector tonight. That may could have been where the injury was. I noticed they tried to get him the ball on the outside, so he didn't have to take as many hits. The coach could have been trying to protect him by limiting his touches.
#17
I thought Harris was a man when they tried to get him on the outside but when he tried to run between the tackles he didn't want to get hit.....Congrats Bears....Let's get ready for ANOTHER regional championship!!!!!! By the way, Southern fought very hard, good football team...they were ready to play from the beginning of the game.

He didn't make them miserable tonight, his team lost. I can't wait to see the new stadium, is there good parking.

It was closer than I expected.

I had the feeling since last spring that District 8 wasn't wide open like you said and that Harlan County would be just as good as last year. I was right about that one.

I dont know why i, but before the season, i thought about the matchup between these two. I think MS could really give them a run, and it appears they did.

Still may be wide open, you still have to play PC. And if MS stuck with you, PC has the ability to as well....

District 8 isn't wide open.
It's over.
Harlan County won...by a lot.

Bailey, Long, Wilson, Whitehead, Cooper etc....are all juniors. They'll be favored again next year.
#22
I knew this game would be close if Harris played. To be honest though, I thought MS would have gotten gassed sooner than what they did. I have to say that I am impressed with them. None the less, the Black Bears fought through it and played another great game and now they have a date in the Regional Championship game with a team from Somerset for the 3rd year in a row!

Congrats Black Bears!!

There is simply no compromising with you, thats why i choose not to.

The majority of our starters are freshmen and sophomores, does that automatically make us the favorite in two years?
#24
If you're right, you're right.
If I'm right, we should compromise.

What is there to compromise about? You said it was wide open. I said it wasn't. It wasn't.

I said you were right about the game being closer than expected. I said you were right about several other topics. But you can't say, you know HDE you really called it last spring when you said the district was not wide open.
#25
Great game and a very close one till the end, HC shot their self in the foot a couple times tonight or the game wouldn't have been as close but MS played a great game and the Harris kid can play and the QB was a good one also.

I'm glad we got that settled.

Congrats to HC, good luck in the regional championship against PC. Hope all the players stay healthy. Should be another good game.

I predicted 42-21 so I wasn't to far off! It was close with two Black Bear TD's in the final 4 minutes. I think 41 points is very impressive when they had 2 fumbles and an INT! This game reminded me a lot of the Southwestern game last year, but the Bears straightened our in this one! Cole Wilson's play on 4 and 1 after the first fumble changed the game! Along with Treyvon running wild and Scotty getting some tuff yards! They seemed to key on Jake but 82 yards an two touchdowns isn't bad! When the defense got Filthy Southern couldn't gain a yard!
