This was a good game. I would liked to have seen a Fairview Raceland rematch but raceland Pikeville will be a good game. Good luck to both teams

Raceland has one of the best coaching staffs in Class A football. Coach Maynard and his assistants do an outstanding job preparing the players every week. If you guys knew anything at all about football then you could see that. This game came down to two things; Raceland coming out flat in the second half, instead of putting Pikeville away, the Rams laid back and let Pikeville slowly build confidence. Great teams have that killer instinct and know how to break their opponent. Raceland didn't have that killer instinct tonight. Secondly, missed tackles. Several missed tackles at the line of scrimmage by our d-line and linebackers. Also let's not overlook the two kickoffs the panthers recovered. Those were critical possessions taken away from the Rams and it cost them dearly. I thought Raceland played well offensively for the most part. You people saying the coaching staff needs to throw the ball more are hilarious. Raceland was having success running the ball, why would you go away from what's working. If
Raceland would have thrown the ball 50 times I'm sure you guys would be saying they should have ran it. Bottom line, Pikeville played with more effort and enthusiasm in the second half.
Let me ask u this if u was coaching would u throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 12.I bet if u was a coach u would get the ball in the hands of Messer and Vance. We are so much better in the open field than most all teams that we played this year and we just let those kids stand there, hands on hips 90% of the time. You have to have the guts to let them make a play.I was a little harsh in my first reply and I am sorry for that, but I do not have faith in this coaching staff.

Congrats to the young Panthers on the win... I said Pikeville would win by 6. One of the few that said Pikeville could win. Pikeville has came a long way this season. After loosing a large senior class from last season and replace 15 seniors with 15 freshman it takes time to have team chemistry and build confidence to play in the High School level. The coaching staff has done wonders with this team. Also with the tough non-district schedule Pikeville played, they had to be ready to play in single A. Good luck to Pikeville next week. The future sure does look bright for the Panthers.

Just as I predicted, I said Raceland wouldn't go far. They're just not that good. Show me wins that would have indicated that. You Raceland fans use would have, could have, and should have and wins over some very bad Russell teams as a yardstick. Beat downs of bad teams and believing you should have won against better teams dosent make you a good team. Sorry, but you have to play big boy football to advance far into the playoffs, this is something Raceland has never done

I've said it all season, our weak schedule and suspect coaching in the big games, would hurt is the long runs. Too many of the Ram fans are drinking too much orange kool aid and wearing orange tinted sunglasses. I'm sure this will tick some people off, but I don't care, I'm tired of sugar coating things.

They threw a fast screen on third and 12 because they were in 4th down territory and knew they had 2 plays to get the yards. And by the way, it wasnt 3rd and 12 it was 3rd and 9. On third down they were trying to steal some yards so they would have a favorable chance on 4th down. If you had any football knowledge what so ever you would understand that. Point fingers at who you want but the truth is, Raceland didn't bring any intensity or heart for this game and that was the difference. For whatever reason the players weren't in attack mode, they sit back and allowed Pikeville to have a chance and Pikeville took advantage of that.

No emotion? Laying down? I'm so glad you are just a spectator and not part of our RAM family. We stand behind our team and support them, win or lose. Grownups can bash the coaches and refs but should never bash, embaress or put down the young boys that are playing a GAME that they love. Shame on you. Once a RAM always a RAM, you don't go here. Go back to Boyd County. We don't need a fan like you. We respect our team and coaches. Saddest display of football YOU ever watched, here's a thought STOP WATCHING.

I can honestly say that I'm not the biggest fan of Raceland but I do like the coaching staff. I didn't watch or listen to the game but I hear it every year from fans bashing or questioning the play calling. I'm sure if these certain plays TJ called would have been for long gains you would have been calling him a genius. Sometimes calling plays that seem really bad to all the bleacher coaches are sometimes go for the biggest gains. We as fans just tend to focus on the ones that don't work. If my son get a 95/100 on a test. I tell him he won't get a lot of praise on the 95 he got right as much as a tongue lashing over the 5 he got wrong. Lol

I'm not picking on you but that sounds funny coming from a Russell fan. We are the kings of bitching about play calling.

I don't bitch about what Russell runs, Its what they don't run. When the defense has 8-9 players in the box and you haven't been able to move the ball its their lack of scheming that I bitch about.

âRelax, all right? Donât try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, theyâre fascist. Throw some ground balls â itâs more democratic.â

Have to give credit to the Panthers & their coaching staff for their improvement they made this season. After taking a thumping from Raceland earlier this season & make the
strides they did to turn the tables on the Rams is very impressive.

haha yea I know. We hear it alot. I do think we should have passed more this year but like Ivan has always said. 3 things can happen when ya pass and 2 of them are bad. I take it he means INT or incompleation. lol

Here they are: HIGHLIGHTS from the Overtime thriller win in the 2nd round of the playoffs versus Raceland! I am so proud of every single one of these guys! I may post more thoughts later, but just have to say how awesome this game was. Very reminiscent of Williamsburg 2004 (The game that made me fall in love with PHS football). Thanks to JD Hughes and Jim Williamson for all their help with the radio, love those guys and they do an awesome job! A great night on all fronts! No quit from the guys, just kept grindind away. The regular season schedule payed its dividends on Friday Night!
HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Wow! Never thought this would be the outcome, huge congrats to the Panthers and their fan base. Raceland has a heck of a team and had a great season, I am sure this will fuel them in the off season. Hope the Panthers go all the way. Hail Pikeville

I have been a Pikeville football fanatic for about 40 years, have had the pleasure of doing radio coverage of the Panthers for the past two seasons. Friday night's game has to rank in the top 5 all-time for me, right there with last year's playoff win over Fairview. They just refused to lose. Hats off to Raceland, you're a classy bunch. Proud of Coach McNamee and his staff, outstanding gameplan! But mostly proud of each player that wore maroon - who executed the game plan to perfection!! And thanks PT for preserving present-day Panther History on video for us to enjoy over and over!!! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Glad to see Pikeville grab this win

Mayfield fans said that this is all for naught. The only team that can win the east is Hazard and whoever comes from the west will blow them out.
11-11-2012, 07:50 PM
That was not a bad call on 4th and 1 in OT. Fullback missed his block and you can't let one guy being you down that easily if you are running that football. That was poor execution.

I gotta say I was wrong with the Young Panthers. They have come further faster than I imagined. Great job Coach Mac and Staff!!!!! I did say back in August that it wouldn't surprise me if in Nov the 2 schools in Pike co still playing would be Belfry and Pikeville. Great win Panthers!!!! Keep it up. I'm still a little shocked at the progress they've made. Congrats to Raceland on a great season. I'm sure it didn't end the way you would have hoped, but you guys have a great program and will always be in the talks for deep runs in the Class A playoffs. I think your young Rams made a deep run in the Middle school if I'm correct which bodes well for your future.

Congrats Panthers. That was one heck of a game and win.
Good luck against Fairview. Now that my Blackcats season is over i'm trying to decide on Pikeville vs Fairview or Belfry vs Breathitt. Either way i'm supporting the Pike County teams.

That's what was said a couple years ago. Everyone said whoever Mayfield plays. They will blow them out.
Hazard ended up blowing Mayfield out.
