Something interesting is happening here at the tail end of the 2012 season. Five of the six classes have a team making their first ever appearance in the finals. Teams from 1A Fairview, 2A Caldwell County, 4A Collins, 5A Cooper and 6A PRP are all new to the carpet at WKU and all have a fairly daunting task ahead of them in taking on established programs. Good luck to all.

Actually I think Caldwell County already has 2 state championships. I could be wrong though.

Figures. I did my research on the other teams, but didn't check on Caldwell. Consider me embarrassed. It's a name I could swear I've not heard before this deep in the playoffs.

Caldwell County's first championship came in 1963 in the old AA with a win over Highlands. Highlands was coached at that time by Owen Hauck, who later coached at Boone County, and is in the top 15 winniest coaches in KHSAA history. Their second, also in AA in 1998, came against Danville, coached by Sam Harp, fifth winniest coach in KHSAA history.

I know people are upset with the six class system , but it does get more and different teams into the championship and encourages football across the state.

Very good for KY HS football IMO. Good luck to all the teams. I hope everyone stays healthy.
