No one would have seen this coming after the first four weeks of the season and the complete embarrassment of a game against Campbell County. This team used that tough schedule to build a TEAM. And right now, it looks like another state title for the Breds!

Congratulations to NCC... We will be pulling for you. Hate this for our Jumpers though. Not to take a thing away from Newport but its a hard loss because
Somerset just wanted it so bad and deserved it for all the right reasons. It has to be our turn soon doesn't it?

In defense, there are a few Somerset fans on here that love to "rub it in" after a win.
Its just really hard to take it on a season ending loss.

I did. I said it after the SK game. All of those injuries forced younger players to grow up fast and built depth.

I thought the game against Simon was the turn a round game of the season for NCC. Didn't get the W, but played hard and was a lot closer than I thought it would be. Best of luck in the finals, no matter what the "Wides say".

Great year Jumpers. I'm proud of you guys. Seniors, I know it hurts right now but you have a lot to be proud of: 47-10, 4 District Championships, 4 Regional Championships, 1 State Runner-Up, 5-0 against Danville, 4-0 against Pulaski and Southwestern. You were a credit to the Gold Headgear and you'll be missed. Underclassmen, you've got a tradition to uphold...
Congrats to NCC. Good luck next week in Bowling Green.

No offense taken. This year's seniors finished 47-10 for the second-highest four-year win total in SHS history.
The only group to do better was 1981-84. They were 48-6 with two trips to the carpet. They too lost their final game as Jumpers to NCC . . . at the Patch.

Thanks to all the Jumper Nation. You made me and Mine feel at Home. It was a Great ride. So Glad, my Grandson got to be a part of this Season. Cong: to NCC, Good Luck in Bowling Green. QB and #6 you had quite a Game.

I knew this would be a hard fault battle NCC almost gave this game away with 3 turnovers. You told me that NCC has 3 turnovers and still wins i would have said your crazy. Somerset should be proud of how they played it was a hard hitting game. I will tell you that NCC players left this game happy for the win, but knew it wasn't easy and somerset never gave up playing all the way to the end.
11-24-2012, 06:21 PM
C'mon man. This game was dominated by NCC, the fact they had 3 turnovers and still won by 2 tds should be enough proof. The last TD somerset got was a garbage TD. There is a reason there has been a NKY team in the 2A championship game almost every year since 2005.
Come on man. You just sound ridiculous. Maybe you had three turnovers because we pushed you to that point. You sound ignorant saying that they walked all over us. They did not. You know it and your team knows it now have some respect and act like you've been there before since your making it very clear to us that you have been. And making a point that they won by two touchdowns is ridiculous as well because the very last one didnt come until they very last two minutes of play. Up until that point we had a fair shot. This game is in the past now but don't act like it wasn't a heck a fight for you all to win that game.
Now good luck on Saturday.

Take a look at the stats. NCC moved the ball up and down the field. This game coulda very well been 42-6. Somerset was absolutely unable to move the ball with any consistency. You can't say at any point somerset had any dominance in that game. You ppl r sore losers and that somerset team is one of the most undisciplined foul mouthed teams I've seen at any level of football. The fact that #24 was dropping N-bombs and #4 said "f@&k the Catholics" in pregame is an embarrassment. Plain and simple.

^I agree.....the fans standing on Somerset's sidelines and in the endzone were talking crap to NCC players the whole game....but they wasted no time abandoning ship the last few minutes of the game!!!

#24 is an African American young man, not saying that makes it ok just throwing it out there. At the end of the day these are kids we are talking about.
I don't see anyone being sore losers, just a couple of sore winners. It's time for all of us to just move on. Good luck this week. As much as it pains me, I'll be rooting for another NCC state title this week.
11-25-2012, 11:04 PM
as mentioned #24 is an African American and as for "f@&k the Catholics" there are several Catholics on this team. At the end of the game I clearly heard a NCC player say FU to a SHS player on the last drive...pretty sure that the F word is said on every football field in America every night and probably on every play.
I'm not saying there weren't loud mouths shooting off at the lip on the sidelines because there probably were, just like the drunks on the basketball court behind our bench last year calling our kids, coaches and parents everything in the book when we played Holy Cross at Newport. There are stupid people that say stupid things at every game for every team. I was standing in the end zone at the end of the game and didn't hear any of what you said. I stayed til after the game to talk to a friend from NCC.
One issue was when the male cheerleaders (I think they were cheerleaders because they were dressed alike) came running up the the Somerset crowd waving a NCC flag screaming and yelling just to taunt the Somerset fans at the end of the game.
I spoke with several NCC fans after the game and didn't hear any of the stuff being said on here...not saying it didn't happen just none of it seemed to be an issue with them.
Good Luck next week

You are missing my point and making excuses. #4 made that statement at the 50 yard line in front of his coach, directed at NCC players and coaches. Football was not being played, the teams were warming up. I agree with you, things are said in the heat of battle, no one is innocent there.
11-25-2012, 11:58 PM
Oh give me a break on the foul mouthed stuff. You think there is a team out there who doesn't run their mouths and cuss in a season ending loss? Lets not act like your private school, white kids are so offended by the n bomb!

Somerset had a good football team, they were still not as good as NCC. No turnovers in that game and NCC wins 42-6. With that being said, somerset got every break in this game and the game was close in the 4th. Because this team was so poorly coached and disciplined, that's why they lost that game. I guess Its just win at any cost in other parts of the state. Do I think for one second that the NCC kids are angels, heck no. I know they run their mouths, but never in the direction of a coach and they never show a lack of respect for the game itself. Kids are kids and can be coached, but punks find ways to lose games and that was evident Friday night. Let me say this, 75, 22, 44 and 83 are very good football players, it's a shame a few bad apples had to ruin a good opportunity this season for their team.

That team that is "poorly coached" has won 47 games in 4 years, playing in 57 with four regional championships, four straight years being undefeated in district play and one state runner up. Not every team plays with a stacked deck and doesn't have the restrictions of a zoned school district. The staff and players associated with this program work extremely hard to be successful, and that comment is insulting to children. According to the players the NCC kids were cussing them and trash talking as well. It goes on everywhere when you deal with kids and athletics. The Northern Kentucky hubris will never cease until schools with geographical restrictions beat them on a regular basis, and that time may never come, however that doesn't change the fact that other players and other coaches work very hard at what they do.

And the 42-6 comment is also ridiculous. "If" they don't turn it over then it is this... Once again NKY Hubris. "IF" SHS gets 3 stops on 3rd down, or the critical stop on fourth down late in the ball game then the game has a different outcome. NCC didn't overpower anyone, they were methodical and ate clock. You play this game 10 times and the two teams split, and thats the truth. How about NCC going over the top with 1:44 left to go in the ball game with the lead on second down? Was a 20-12 lead not big enough for the NCC ego? We can all play the "what if" game... Here's to Caldwell Co. winning one for public schools, although I don't think it happens.

The best part is all of the players you mentioned are all juniors and will be back next year! Hopefully you all can make it back again because i have a feeling we will make our 5th straight semi-state appearance.
11-26-2012, 05:01 PM
Wow, those four players all are juniors. that is pretty impressive. For anyone to say that game was a blowout is crazy. That was a one touchdown game (8 points) with 2 minutes to go and Somerset made a stop that should have given them the ball back with a chance to tie. Unfortunately a late hit penalty gave Newport an auto first down and that was the ball game. Both late touchdowns - one for newport one for somerset were meaningless. It would have been really exciting to have seen Somerset with a chance to tie with 2 minutes to go and get the ball into #83 and #22 hands. I think they would have scored! Oh well - refs didnt give Somerset a chance to tie.

The only reason this game was close was because of turnovers. I think that proves my point ten fold about how much better NCC was. The fact that a team can make runs like your saying simply shows how weak your competition is. Don't talk to me about district lines. There are 5 catholic schools within 20 miles up here, and you can't cross district lines here either. Not to mention, NCC has 40 kids, 10th through 12th on their roster. Same as the other schools they play in 2A. Don't act like they have such an advantage. Losing at Football boils down to two simple things, either you have good coaches and your players aren't good, or you have good players and your coaches aren't good. I realize kids say things on the field in the heat of battle, that's not what I'm talking about. Your trying to justify the things in pregame, and good teams don't do those things, sorry.

So losing never "boils down" to one good team making more plays than the other good team? You invalidate everything you say positive about NCC when you make comments like this. IMO this game was the 2a state title game. Posts claiming the game should have been a 42-6 blowout are ridiculous, and make NCC folks seem as if beating a good SHS team by 9 was just unacceptable because they are inferior to your program in some way. On the coaching matter, Hayes had 116 yards on 26+ carries and no runs of more than 12. Your vaunted special teams had no returns of more than 20 yards... You think this was by accident? The pregame comments that were supposedly said are kids being kids, and once more your boys are definitely not angels either.
